Jodi Picoult

Jodi Picoult is one of the greatest writers I've ever had the pleasure of reading.

I've read 'The Tenth Circle', 'My Sister's Keeper', 'Second Glances', 'Nineteen Minutes', and 'Vanishing Acts'.

My reviews: (SPOILER WARNINGS)

THE TENTH CIRCLE: Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. I was rather dissapointed at the boring ending, 'I accidentally killed him, it was me! By accident!' But the rest of the story was grand.
...Not much else to say.

MY SISTEr'S KEEPER: Sad, depressing, wonderfully written. Gives insight on a child who was created only to keep her other sister alive. Very deep, wonderful, and makes you realize that people may not be as obvious as you think.

SECOND GLANCE: I loved it. Not the best, out of what she's written, but extremely good. Love and romance and more emo. Very realistic, however.

NINETEEN MINUTES: By far my absolute favorite book. Brings to light that the evil may not always be truly evil. The good may not be as pure as people thought they were. And shows the emotional wreck of a family that's been torn apart.

VANISHING ACTS: I enjoyed this one truly and deeply. again, proving the evil are not really evil, not always. Sometimes a kidnapper may have been saving the kidnapped. Sometimes a mother whos lost her child didn't deserve the child in the fist place.

Read all her books. Read. Now.

I finished that book in less than forty-eight hours ... while I was on holiday in London for the first time and was trying to see as much as possible. It was such a page-turner -- I read it long into the night and on the train, mostly. However, I'm still unsure as to how much of that was thanks to Jodi Picoult's writing style and how much was due to the ethical dilemma.

I absolutely hated the character of Sara, though. I found her to be really just ... flat. I spent most of the book wondering if she had any objective other than making Kate better. Jury's out for me on the ending, though. [spoiler]I found it deliciously ironic, but just a tad over the top. And that line ... something like, "Have you considered organ donation?" made me want to whack my head against a wall. Hard.[/spoiler]

But I loved the title. In fact, this was one of the few times a title pretty much sold the book for me.

I'd read another one of Picoult's novels to compare, but it wouldn't be at the top of my "To Read" list.

And there's my two cents

You must read nineteen minutes.

I've just read Nineteen Minutes, which is by her. It's a story about a high school shooting. I like the plot and all, but the writing style was not good. That woman does not know how to show. >.< It might be different in her other books, though. Maybe I'll have to find My Sister's Keeper.

I love all of them to bits.

I have another four of her books still to read, and another four I need to buy.

My dad said I could get Change of Heart from Amazon instead of waiting until May when it comes out here!

The only one I read was [u]My Sister's Keeper[/u] I loved it... depressing, yes, but personally I found it really well-written and engaging. And I kind of fell in love with the epileptic lawyer guy.

I read the first few pages of one of her other books, though, and it just seemed really similar... from what I've heard about her other books I get the impression she's one of those authors who have one really good best-seller and then basically duplicate it.

But I've only read MSK, so I shouldn't really judge.

I'm half way through Mercy - which is nowhere near as good as My Sister's Keeper. I'm sort of disappointed to be honest. After reading MSK I was really excited to read another Picoult book, but Mercy doesn't really cut it. I like Picoult's way of writing though, so I might read The Pact.

Hmmm.... I have a rant about her somewhere around here.... Found it!

So, basically, I found the characters flat and sort of annoying, and the two I read, My Sister's Keeper and Vanishing Acts were essentially the same thing, though My Sister's Keeper was better.

[spoiler]and I thought the ending of My Sister's Keeper was a cop-out.[/spoiler]

I haven't read any of her books, but I saw one on Amazon, and am having my father... uhm, Santa Clause give it to me for Christmas. Santa is a bit late this year, but I will have it soon enough.

It is the one about Anna and her sister, the one who is sick. Anna sues her parents - anyone read it? Impressions?

Upon reading a few of the comments above - well, Alainna's - the title is 'My Sister's Keeper'. I read the polish version, or rather skimmed through it for an hour, lol, and it had me hooked. (Nevermind that I wrote an essay on it later on, when I just SKIMMED through it... WOuld zou believe that I got my first ever 4 from essays on Polish? And that is positive -.-)

So, anyway, I don't have much to say on the subject. Couldn't resist writing a comment xDxD

I have read "The Pact", and it is the most heartbreaking book I have ever read.

It's about love and loss, and it is the only book to have made me cry several times before reaching the ending.

They are super sad but I really think there serious situations make them very good...

I've read My Sister's Keeper, but I was wondering if Mercy is any good.

Worth reading?

I've never read them, but I know my younger sister is quite obsessed with My Sister's Keeper. As soon as I'm done with my Dostoevsky, I'm going to read it.

I've only read "My Sister's Keeper", which was excellently well-written and well-thought-out and with excellent plot and characters.

However, i started a few books after that, and I found out that they're all pretty much the same--except maybe the plot and the characters. All of her books adress moral issues, but they also are all very annoying in the sense that they are dull (moral, moral, moral.)

I do advise you to read My Sister's Keeper. I finished it in about five days. It's not a classic, but it's a page-turner alright.

Haha, no question about it: they're extremely depressing, but also very well-written. The only work of hers I've read is "My Sister's Keeper", which kept me chained to the book -- she knows how to make you feel and relate to characters.

I love her books. Admittedly, they often have tragic aspects but one or two end happily or relatively so. If you want one of her better books, go for the pact or my sister's keeper but if you want a happier one there's salem falls. They all circulate around some rather controversial topics such as rape, suicide pacts and medical donations and I find them interesting, thought provoking and generally an excellent read.

They're depressing.

There's one called "My Sister's Keeper" which is about a girl who sues her parents, because they're taking bone marrow and things from her to keep her other sister alive, who's got this cancer.

And there's one about a father whose girl gets raped, and one about child abuse... They all seem to be very depressing to me, but other people have said that they're really good.
