Will you hold my hand?

PreviousNext

I'm not that brave to take the risks

And face its consequences.

'Cause deep inside...

My fears are slowly consuming

The whole of me.

Unnerving and frightening.

'Till I end up struggling,

Struggling to see the light.

The assurance of a brighter day.

But I'm tired of living like this.

Here alone in a dark cage,

A prison I built within myself.

Now, I want everything to change.

I'm through being a coward.

I want to give myself a chance.

An opportunity to live again

And to dream once more.

So will you help me?

Will you hold my hand?

Yes I will hold your hand! XD

I will also review it O.o

Slight continuity error with the first lines:

I'm not that brave to take the risks

And face its consequences.

If it's risks - plural, then it needs to be: face "their consequences" because it's still plural. XD

The repetition of the words ending in "ing" was good, because it hurried the pace of the poem; and created the repetitious yet unnerving sensation the narrator is experiencing:

Unnerving and frightening.

'Till I end up struggling,

First person is always a good POV choice when it comes to this sort of work because it makes it seem all the more personal.
This was great.
Well done.
Keep writing!

I'll put in mind your correction and thank you :)

Wow, reading this literally gave me chills. It's so beautifully written and it made me feel like I desperately wanted to be there for you. It's so simply written but it gives off a huge message and the simplicity of it makes it ten times better than the most detailed piece. I really love how it shows through everything that you just need someone else to come and take your hand to guide you back to your dreams and who you really strive to be.

This is amazing, keep it up. :D

Thank you, that was touching :)

I loved this because it had a nostalgic feel to it. I've felt this way before and this poem really hits me. It's a simple poem with a strong message behind it and that's what I like about poems like yours, nothing compares to it. It's something you write when you're not feeling like your usual self. It's pure and I really enjoyed it. :)

Aw, how sweet of you. Thank you :)

No wonder this is spotlighted. I found this poem to be very inspiring as it is obvious that a lot of heart went into writing it. As someone who is going through troubles of my own, it really spoke to me. I'm not usually one to read poems but I would say that this flows very well. Each line seems to carry strength and plant a series of images into the minds eye. I can easily see this being adapted into a full length song (Rock maybe?). But that's probably just me.
Thank you to whoever wrote this. Keep up the good work.

I actually definitely can see this as a rock song, for sure. Welcome to YWS.

Whoa, to be a rock song. I haven't thought of that but thank you :)

Hey Chancesnchanges,

One thing I love about this is how genuine it feels, like it speaks of real issues and problems that a lot of young people face and I love poems that embrace these topics. You definitely feel while reading it, the train of thought that the narrator takes in examining this whole process, watching him/herself get consumed and then at the end, asking for help. I liked the ending retrospective to the beginning, I like where it lead me.

So, while this poem talks about these things, and it does this well, I still feel like it could have shown more, you know? In any prose piece, novels, short stories, all of that, you usually hear the sentiment "show, don't tell", because we want to feel like we're in the story, we don't want to feel like we're just reading someone telling us about a story. In poetry, it's much the same thing, we want to be able to experience a poem, we don't want to feel like we're just reading a bunch of lines. We can use all of the techniques that prose uses, creating imagery and scene by implementing concrete, sensory details; but essentially, the way you would "show" in poems is by using figurative language. Metaphors, similes, imagery, etc. I think the one metaphor that was used was "here alone in a dark cage, a prison I built for myself" and honestly, that was also my favorite part of the piece!

Anyway, I hope this helps. I'm happy to chat this one, if you have any other further questions or concerns. Keep writing!

~ as always, Audy

Thank you for your review :) I'll work on showing not telling. I'm just having trouble on it, at times.

I think this is incredible. I've felt what you described in your poem and what you wrote brought tears. Writing about hiding is something that's always been difficult for me and if its as hard for you, I think you did an awesome job opening yourself to the healing of the words. Thank you for sharing something so elegant in its desperation and hopefulness.

Wow! I'm glad to hear that from you :) I hope you can conquer your inner fights with yourself, also.

Hello chancesnchanges. I am here for a mini-review for this mini poem perhaps.

First of all, isn't it a poem? It seems like one so why didn't you tag it under the 'Poetry' section rather than putting it in 'Others' section!

Apart from that it is nicely written and the flow wasn't bad either. However, the punctuation were not used as they should have been used; and if the poem were in stanzas, it would have sounded a lot better. It is not bad though but these are just some points I think can help you improve your work.

Well I guess that's all I can say on this piece of yours. The idea was great and nicely described.

Thanks for posting. Keep writing. Looking forward to see your next work. All the best.

Thank you for your review & suggestions :) But like I said to ccwritingrainbow, I don't feel it as a poem. Weird but *shrugs* =^[]

The last line of this poem happens to be the best line. Not only is it the title of the poem, it's the one line that brings everyone to their knees. The poem from beginning to end will make people shiver and tear up, but that one line, "Will you hold my hand?" just knocks them down as if they were in a wrestling match. I'm getting goosebumps just writing this review, and I didn't even write this poem. You should be proud. If this is not a poem, then I don't know what it is. Please keep writing. I will follow you 110%.

Aww, thank you :) I didn't expect such comment/review. Most likely, I don't feel that it's a poem so I placed it in others.
