Non-Things

E - Everyone
The universe is filled
With non-things.

Only when there is no light
Can real darkness be seen,
And cold cannot be truly felt
If heat is not missing.
Black is all too visible
When all of the colors are gone,
And silence cannot be perceived
With the slightest sound or song.
Nowhere can be found only when
There's no 'Somewhere' to be,
And hate is only surely known
When from love one's soul is free.

All are non-things, all are nothings,
Unable to exist
Without the aid of an absent real thing
Upon which it insists
To clutch, to cling, to ride, to lean,
To draw strength and to feed
Because wherever there is something,
Nothing cannot be.

Hello cha3739 on this gloriously sunny review day!

This is Magenta her to review! As a Cobalt Critiquer, it is my duty to review as much as I possibly can and your poem has just come up! I love this poem that you've written, Non-Things. Though the title is a bit odd, I think that the piece is well-thought out.

The way you compare two things was interesting. I think that this poem is true. At first, I got the meaning that you don't know what you have until it's gone. You don't know what something is until something is taken away.

"Only when there is no light
Can real darkness be seen,
And cold cannot be truly felt
If heat is not missing.
Black is all too visible
When all of the colors are gone,
And silence cannot be perceived
With the slightest sound or song.
Nowhere can be found only when
There's no 'Somewhere' to be,
And hate is only surely known
When from love one's soul is free."

I like how you say that you don't know darkness until there is no light. The way that you wrote this was brilliant! The only nitpick would be to use a different word then non-things. It sounds to bulky in the poem. But other than that, great job and keep on writing.

I just... absolutely love this. It's beautiful. I can't even review, because there's nothing bad to say. Bravo!

Man, the contrast, the contrast!

That's what makes this poem. I personally enjoy contrast because sometimes you can't explain something properly without knowing how not to explain it. A perfect example is this line:

"And hate is only surely known
When from love one's soul is free."

Since, you really don't know the greatness of love until you feel the biting sting of hate. You were able to beautifully capture some (I say some for no one can possible capture it all) of the essence of which this universe is made out of.

Just as a disclaimer: I am not a professional critique-er. I just...say what I feel. So please don't ever get offended by my comments. Also, please don't judge if this was the intended message of your poem/story. It's just how I work.

Thank you for such a good poem ^_^ Keep trying hard.

Hey there. Here to review =)

So I really enjoyed this. I thought it was nice and meaningful. Really made me feel something. And I like (love) feeling things when reading.

Okay, so this line kind of stuck out to me, but only because I think there is a weird arranging of words here:

Black is all too visible
When colors bright are gone,

I feel like the words "bright" and "colors" should be switched around. I don't know if you did this on purpose or not. But if you did, then ignore me. If you didn't, then yeah, I would rearrange it to:

"Black is all too visible
When bright colors are gone,"

Just a side question, wouldn't black be visible even if dull colors were gone? I think the word may be unnecessary. Saying "all of the" instead of "bright" would be a suggestion if you want to get rid of it. I think using "bright" is fine though, if you want to keep it. I may be overthinking things though, so I might not know what I'm talking about =P Sorry, I do that a lot...

I especially liked the lines you ended with. It just sounds nice, haha. You did a nice job here! Keep writing

Thanks a lot for the suggestion, I was having trouble figuring out how to fit that bit in there and keep the rhythm. I knew what I had wasn't perfect but what you said will work great. Thanks again :)

We always talk about the "doers" and "dreamers" but I'd like to give a big shoutout to the "tryers".
