This War We Fight

I push against everything that I’ve known
The sun, the stars, the moon, the air
And again I try to breathe, in out, in out
I look at the clock; it’s over time run out
The buzzer rang, with that final shot
We were down by five, so close but so far
I untie my shoes, and try to keep my head up high
But tears sting my eyes, and I collapse from exhaustion and loss
We lost that battle; but there is still a war; still that single fight inside us
Against reality and the way we move, the way we control our surroundings
So the next day, I run harder, breath faster, hold on to something deeper in me than fear
But it’s not just an I, it’s a we; running in a single motion
Arms swinging heart’s pumping, breathing together, in out, in out
We come together to say that prayer, Dear Lord get us through this game
And this time we run faster, breath together, and control the time
The shot goes up, the battle is over
We have won; this war is at an end
We smile through our tears of joy, because this was something deeper than hope
It was a love; a love for something more than ourselves and our friends
God gave us life, in order for us to learn how we make our mistakes
He lets us run, breath, and celebrate the good days
And on the bad, he gives us a new start
That is why I run faster and train harder; because I can
And I take it one step at a time; a single breath out of ten
We run; we smile; we laugh; and we learn
And we keep on breathing, in out, in out….

Everything has to be taken on trust; truth is only that which is taken to be true. It's the currency of living. There may be nothing behind it, but it doesn't make any difference so long as it is honoured. One acts on assumptions. What do you assume?
