Heartbeat

I'm wrapped in your guitar strings,
Pulling the trigger, plucking your Cupid harp
Never again, I'll be alone
Forever!
I smile, but only while you play your song
And you go quiet,
But still your fingers sing.
The beats of our hearts are in time,
Forever.

Remember when you said that?

The children laugh but you cry,
Changing keys to your music,
Your heart,
And I'm locked outside,
Forever!
But never again, I shout,
I see you drifting away,
I'll always go after you,
Bring you back to life.

Remember when you said that?

Your dreams lie behind me,
Not you! But you don't notice
When the beat starts to fade
And the guitar strings become tighter
Around my heart,
But looser around your fingers.

And the beats get stranger,
Our hearts lose touch, sound,
And then the rain merges with your tears.
And your gone.

But I'll always beat to your heart.

Remember when you said that?
No.
Of course you don't.

This is amazing. So beautiful... "And the guitar strings become tighter/Around my heart,/But looser around your fingers" I wish I'd thought of that line! I can't compliment this poem enough. It perfectly sums up the emotion of getting dumped and feeling like you'll never love again.

Too bad all the people who know how to run this country are busy running taxicabs or cutting hair.
