The Best Book Ever Read

by ab5986

Published September 24, 2009

Hi, I have a book (more like a series), it's the best series I've ever read, the first book is called "the night watch" by Sergei Lukyanenko, if you try to read it you won't regret it, although its more suitable for 16+. Except that I would like you to post the best book/books you've ever read (I'm a bit short on reading materials).
Thanks in advance.

Right, favourite books.
I have so many cause I'm a reading machine (no really I am).
My favourite favourites would have to be
1. Belgarion by David Eddings (you've probably never heard of it but I love them)
2. Malloreon by David Eddings
3.The Inheritance Cycle (Eragon, Eldest and Brisingr)
4.Cherub

There are many more but I can't remember the names of the books cause I can only remember plots. :elephant:

In no order.

Empress Orchid- Anchee Min Seriously one of the best books i have ever read.
The book of lies- Brad Meltzer Intresting, but i would recomend.
Raymond Chandler- Farewell, My Lovely Not the first in the Marlowe series but by far my favourite, i would recomen read them all.
To kill a mocking bird- harper Lee Classic.
Storm Front- Jim Butcher A truly unsung series of books. The series is called the Dresend files and is awesome. It is like an episode of CSI meets Harry Potter

I really shouldn't put anymore, but all the classics have been said.

Fahrenheit 451 is a short, yet mesmerizing novel. Though I rather miss a certain charcter who dies way too early in the tale. It's sp sad. But the insane world taht the book is set in is no differnet than the one we live ine today. There isn't always a happy ending to things.

 The Hunchback Assigment by ...........(I truly cannot remember.)
 The Wolf Tower by Tanith Lee (This one was the best of the series. The others weren't really to exciting.)
 The girl who could fly by........... (Erhm...It's a great book.)
 Deltora Quest Series by Emily Rodda (Literally the best!)

There's many more but I can't remember them.

A really good series is Stephanie Plum! It's be Janet Evanoich. I think there is seventeen books. There about a bounty hunter names Stephanie Plum! I think I've read, like, seven of them.

Another good one is Crank by Ellen Hopkins.Well, that is if you can like poetry. Its written like that but tells a story of a girl who is addicted to drugs, and gets rapped. It's really good.

Stephanie Plums books are for adults and Crank is for young adults.

There's a a lot of book that I like, but I don't know if you would, because there like romance and stuff.. But I have a whole bunch if you want to know some more ;)

Definately the Dragons in our midst and Oracles of Fire series. Both by Bryan Davis. They go together. They are a wonderful mix of christian beliefs and fantasy. Oh, and dragons. It is what got me into fantasy, which is now my most preferred genre. They really are VERY amazing. They really are a MUST READ for christians who love fantasy. Or fantasy lovers who don't mind christian things in your books. And they aren't preachy at all. It flows nicely, and it makes you feel like it could be true--oh, how I wish it were... how I wish it were....

I've read too many really amazing books to say which is the 'best'. I thought this thread was about choosing ONE book as the best, but most people seem to have listed far more than that!

So...some favourites while I was going through different genre seasons:

1. Peter Pan (my fav 'fairy tale' type of a story).
2. The Wheel of Time series (in my fantasy phase - a pity I never finished it).
3. The Bourne Identity (and the others in the series - in my 'thrillers' phase).
4. King Lear (in my Shakespeare phase).
5. Jane Eyre (in the classics phase).
6. Nineteen Minutes (in the more true-to-life phase - the current one!).

Unfortunately, horror and sci-fi just weren't meaty enough for me - most books I picked up lacked depth - so that's why I never went through those phases!

I love the Mark of the Lion Trilogy by Francine Rivers (A Voice in the Wind, An Echo in the Darkness, As Sure as the Dawn). They're set back after the Romans seized Jerusalem and destroyed the temple. The main character's name is Hadassah, a Jewess, she loses her family during the siege and is taken back to Rome to be a slave. But I wouldn't recommend the books for anyone under 16 for some of the content. I've never been able to identify with a character as well as i did with those in her books. In a way, after reading the books I felt like I found apart of myself that I had been too afraid to show to others. They're definitely a life changing read

A book that I can read over and over again, and never gets old, just like the movie. Jurassic Park, by the now dead author, Michael Crichton. There just isn't anything else like it. The book is balanced to perfection. It fuses science, suspense, characterization, a bit of insane philosophy, and dinosaurs! It is a classic.

I can't exactly pick just one favorite book, so here's a list of some of the best books I've read :D:

~~The Mortal Instruments series (City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass, and City of Fallen Angels, which comes out in 2011!!) by Cassandra Clare. I absolutely love this series. The plot idea, the romance, the mystery, the fantasy...everything is awesome.
~~Kissed by an Angel trilogy (Kissed by an Angel, The Power of Love, and Soulmates) by Elizabeth Chandler. This series is just...wow. Of course, I'm biased because I love Angel mythology and stories, but it's still awesome. The whole time I was reading I was trying to guess who did what.
~~Of Mice and Men by John Steinback. This book was so bittersweet, but so amazing. I love his writing style.
~~Hush, Hush (Crescendo comes out in a few months!!!) by Becca Fitzpatrick. I couldn't put this book down once I got it. I love the romance in it, and it has Angels in it, too. Plus, Patch Cipriano is possibly one of the best fictional characters ever :D.
~~Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. This is one of the best adventure books ever written, in my opinion. I love his writing style and the plot line.

There's my list! And, trust me, that's definitely not all the books I love, just a few of my favorites :).

5. Maniac Magee by jerry Spinelli
6. Loser By Jerry Spinelli
7. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl (All his book are awesome)

2) I Capture the Castle - Dodie Smith
GREAT BOOK. Go read it. Now.

3) Going Postal - Terry Pratchett
I'm a big fan of most of the Discworld books, but this one wins. Close seconds being The Hogfather and Thud!.

Asking me to list the names of my favorite books is like asking how many hairs are on my head.

1. The 13 and 1/2 Lives Of Captain BlueBear by Walter Moers (these is an exceptionally long book I recommend it for those who love reading a work of art. THE PLOT IS AMAZING! In the beginning you think there's a whole lot of plot holes but no...! This book pwns all other books! Sorry!)
2. Rumo by Walter Moers (it's not exactly a sequel but it is connected to book the top book)
3. The City Of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers (again these are very long books but this trilogy will leave you dazzled by the description. It's definitely a showing-not-telling book!)

There are many many many many, etc... books I'd like to add here but it wouldn't all fit.

Definitely The Ice Wolf Trilogy by James Jenson and Brian Christie. They are the most well written books I've ever read, and I'm not exagerating. Those guys are masters at showing-not-telling.

I agree with many others on The Goose Girl, though I did like Enna Burning better!

Actor and the Housewife by Shannon Hale.

Maximum Ride by James Patterson. That series is full of plot holes, but I still love it. It's fantastic, and I LOVE Fang. He's so awesome!

NERDS by Michael Buckley. Just pure awesome. Every nerd's fantasy.

Despite the fact that a lot of people hate it (which I still don't get, lol) the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini.

And last but not least (actually, probably my favorites) anything by John Green, especially Paper Towns. He's my idol!

It is awesome and i would recommend it for anyone. Genre is Young Adult, fantasy, Science fiction novels( and yes, i looked up the genre) But seriously, put your sights on this series, I bet that you will love it. So anyone try and prove me wrong.

I agree with so many other people - I love reading the Goose Girl for comfort. The Outsiders is also fantastic, as is The Picture of Dorian Gray.

My top favorite is probably The King of Attolia, by Megan Whalen Turner - it's part of the trilogy The Queen's Thief. The fourth one is coming out soon and I'm super excited :D .

I love children's books, too, like Bloomability by Sharon Creech, and Journey to the River Sea, by Iva Ibbotson.

Okay, a few more - The Chronicles of Narnia (C.S. Lewis), Jacob Have I Loved (Katherine Patterson), any book by Madeline L'Engle (especially the Time Quintet and the Austin family books), and To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee).

Sorry for giving so many - I just love books!

Hm...this is fairly easy for me:

2. The Rum Diary by Hunter S. Thompson
3. Byzantium by Stephen R. Lawhead
4. Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy
5. A Scanner Darkly by Phillip K. Dick
6. The Stand by Stephen King
7. Post Office by Charles Bukowski
8. Suttree by Cormac McCarthy

Personally I didn't really start reading until high school, and that's why my list consists of only a handful of the same authors...but they're my primary inspiriations. Hunter S. Thompson was, and probably still is, one of my heros.
