Sitting in the dark hotel room made me feel like a professional. The silencer on the barrel of my gun was cool on my lap. waiting for my target was the only thing left to do now. I remembered how I had arrived in this position and chuckled.
12 hours before
"Yes mom-" I listened to her ramble. "ye-" she kept rambling. "mmhm" I answered. "love you too mom" I said hurriedly. "love you ok bye love you". I hung up quickly. My nostrils flared and eyes opened just thinking about my mother. I let out a low growl and rolled out of bed to the floor. It's time for work.
The envelope arrived at the exact time every other sunday, 12 p.m.. Not one second past, not one second before. Sometimes I try to catch a glimpse of who drops it off through the mail slot. By the time I go to see who it is, they've vanished. I never open the door for fear of being shot. This is real criminal activity. This job would be my first one alone. The envelope was red, and only marked G. G for Gabriel. In it were only a picture and description.
6 hours before
I checked into the hotel under a pseudonym.
"Sir?" the checkout lady asked. "your cards been declined." She continued. My face turned a little red. It always does in embarrassing situations.
"Fuck." I said bluntly. I paid with cash instead. My hotel room had the faint scent of feces, lovely. Being a slight germaphobe, I didn't lay on the bed. I was two floors away from my target. I began devising a plan to infiltrate his room. I thought maybe I could pose as one of the hotel workers. Then I would have to gain ahold of a uniform. Too complicated. Then I thought of something brilliant. I would need all of my charm and wit to pull it off though.
3 hours before
The stink of old puke in the elevator was almost unbearable. I held my elbow to my face for two floors. The hallway had only one cleaning lady.
"Excuse me, hi." I said to the lady. She seemed to be around her late 30's. She smiled dully at me. "do you think you could open my door for me? I was getting a snack from the machine and-" she cut me off.
"You have to show me proof that is your room number first sir, we can't open the door for anyone sir. If you locked yourself out, you can always go down to the lobby and get it sorted out." She said. She continued on her way rolling her little cart. The squeaking of the wheels irked me. My brow furrowed in frustration. I needed a snack.
The vending machine dropped my Choco-Donuts with a plunk! I walked back chewing on my donuts. Then a stroke of luck! My target was walking out of his room. His door was still closing. I had to reach it before it closed! As soon as he turned the corner, I bolted into a sprint. The door was closing fast and I was still so far. If I could just put something between it! I stretched out my hand as if I could will it to stay open. The door was mere inches from shutting. I launched myself stupidly at the door landing with a hard thump! My fingers jammed in the doorway.
"Ow! Fuck!" I screamed out. The door was thick and closed quick, leaving my fingers bruised. I felt excited at my success. The door across from me opened. I lay there with my fingers in the door trying to act casual. The kid looked at me quizzically. Then he ran down the hallway with his towel cape flowing. I entered my targets room and sat in a chair. I wondered if he payed for the After Hours channel?
Current Time
He did pay for the After Hours channel. I thought happily. I lay comfortably on the bed watching the after hours special. Sitting in a chair for a couple hours was unbearably boring. I began to become more and more aroused until I caved in. I took out my manhood to rub a quick one out, when suddenly the door clicked. Shit Shit Shit.
I kept repeating the word in my head. I pushed the power button and fell silently behind the bed, my pants still lowered. Beads of sweat snaked down my forehead. I waited for my target to do something. I heard him lay his things down and take off his pants. Now is the time to strike. I jumped up to surprise him.
"Surprise motherfucker!" I yelled out. He screamed and stumbled backwards with his pants around his ankles. He looked up at my exposed junk. His eyes turned into slits and his mouth lowered at the corners. We stood there, frozen in awkwardness. I looked at him like I meant business. I didn't really know how to make a business face so I just half closed one eye and opened the other. I jutted out my chin to look serious. I don't think it had the effect I intended because he started laughing. As he was laughing I shot him in the face. The bullet mangled his flesh and shattered his face bones. I picked up the shell casing and readied myself to leave.
The Escape
I shouldn't leave out the front door. That was obvious. The only other option was to jump from the balcony. I was three floors up. If I could jump down to the second story balcony, then I could survive a fall, possibly even leave from that room. First I picked up my pants that had dropped to the floor. It wasn't really all that high I tried convincing myself. It was like 20 something feet I thought. I looked out the balcony. A pool! I must be the luckiest guy on the planet.
The pool wasn't that far from the edge of my railing. If I calculated just right and pushed with all my legs muscles, I could jump in perfectly. I couldn't see anyone in the pool. The railing was cold against my pants. The breeze suddenly felt a lot stronger than seconds ago. I felt like it could push me into the concrete. The tips of my fingers and toes became light. My stomach was already doing twirls. It was all or nothing now. My legs pushed against the railing as hard as I could. My body was directly over the pool. I fell too fast for my senses to get ahold of my situation. Then quicker than I anticipated I hit the water. I hit it squarely and flatly. The water felt like gentle concrete. I sank slowly. My face pounded with pain. It was like someone slapped me with all of their arm strength. I made it though. I was on the first floor. I floated to the edge of the pool in my now soaked clothes. I smiled to myself.
Someone had been watching me dive in. The same little kid as before. He was laying on a chair eyeing me the same as last time.
"You're crazy." he told me.
"Yeah but it was fun." I answered back.
"You're not crazy because you jumped into the pool dumb butt, you're crazy because you don't have any pants on." he explained to me. It was true, there I was standing in front of a boy with only my tighty-whiteys on. I looked to the pool and my pants were floating carelessly. No time for that right now. With my gun securely in my jacket pocket I fast walked to the parking lot. My privates shriveled at the fierceness of the cold and water combination of outside. My car was close enough, but too far for no pants. So I walked to my car with my briefs exposed, my jacket soaked, and my face in stinging pain. I never felt a sensation such as when I arrived at my car. It was of relief, joy, and achievement. I was a made man, a man of exceptional skill. I fumbled around in my jacket for keys. I lowered my head in exasperation and chagrin. I forgot my keys in my hotel room.
Investigation
"Don't know what to tell you boss, this guy is a professional. He covered his tracks." The young cop said. "he paid the hotel room with cash and signed in with a fake name, in the elevator he covered his face." he continued.
"What about the clothing we recovered?" His superior questioned.
"The pool rendered all DNA invalid." he answered
"Witnesses?" the superior continued digging.
"The only two witnesses were the cleaning lady, and a young boy." the cop said.
"What did they say?" He asked.
"Nothin, the boy is too young for a reliable description. The woman was too indifferent to care. Besides she sees hundreds of people everyday. There's no way." he explained thoroughly. The superior officer let out a huff through his nose, frustrated.
"It doesn't make sense. If he's a professional killer, than why kill a random stripper of a notable politician? Was it a mix-up? Why not kill the politician?" He inquired aloud while stroking his neck. The cop shook his head and looked to the dead stripper in the room. He huffed and turned on the After Hour special.

'12 hours before' - When you put something like that and the reader has no idea what is going on and it is both a little annoying and a lot confusing..
Um... this work was too long.
Also, for something classed as humour, I personally, didn't find it all that funny.
It has moments of brilliance: 'The pool wasn't that far from the edge of my railing. If I calculated just right and pushed with all my legs muscles, I could jump in perfectly. I couldn't see anyone in the pool. The railing was cold against my pants. The breeze suddenly felt a lot stronger than seconds ago. I felt like it could push me into the concrete. I have decided to post all of this here because I think it is the best part of the piece. It shows how action and character can be propelled without reliance on dialogue. On the powers of pure description you have created a great work.
This a piece full of ideas and it's a very interesting concept.
Just needs a pump up on the humour I think.
Anyways...
Keep writing.

This piece was a brilliant idea, Veni! I love the concept. What I typically do when I review a piece is explain the three main parts that were not so clear, or things that could use some work, and then I end my review with three parts that I feel were exceptionally done.

Suggestions:
1. In the beginning, when this "professional" was talking to his mom on the phone, for the most part, it reads like a realistic telephone conversation, but it is written sort of... erratically. If you're looking for a review of the technicalities, this would be one of them. I won't nitpick or anything, because I know there are others who will. It wasn't a big deal; just something I thought you should be aware of.
2. If you're wanting to go for a realistic piece, it became quite unrealistic for me when the "target" came into the hotel room and the "professional" stood up with his manhood hanging out. Sure, it makes for an awkward/funny scene, but not realistic at all. If he had wanted to, he could have hastily pulled up his pants before the "target" saw him. He would have at least been taken more seriously by his "target."
3. I didn't like the idea of the "target" being a stripper. Honestly, it was kind of predictable. Stripper killed by unknown man in shady hotel room. I kind of had it figured out from the beginning. But if you can improve on the plot, I think it can work. I suggest using an outline. If you can create a brief outline of your story, I think you will be able to focus more on the details versus what is going to happen in regards to the plot.
Exceptional:
1. I LOVE the way you have the story laid out. Your labels like "The Escape" and "Investigation" act almost like chapter titles, mostly because I love organization and outlined plots. This was a great idea.
2. I adore the humor in this piece. It's action/adventure with a humorous twist and I admire that because most writers cannot pull that off effectively.
3. I think my absolute favorite thing about this piece is that he had no idea how well he covered his tracks! That was so cleverly executed! Props to you!

I really enjoyed reading this. The story, the idea, the content, it was great. I admit it didn't make me laugh out loud, you shouldn't estimate readers like that because it annoys them, but I did enjoy it and there were some humorous parts.
I didn't like the ending. It was anti-climatic, and implausible. Let me tell you why.
Firstly the fact that it was a stripper made me feel sort of meh. If the stripper is dead its obvious the politician was the target and even the police wouldn't be that much of an idiot to suspect the killer of being a 'professional' something like that would be treated as a murder, they wouldn't even assume it was a hired killer to target a stripper.
Also why would the stripper have the politicians key? If the stripper was trustworthy enough to the politician to have his key then he would know his face and that this killer isn't a politician. Second killer saw the politician leaving. He should know its not him. If it was the stripper why would a random stripper be going out then back into the politicians room without the politician.
Lastly, the target is a politician. There is no way a politician would be saying in a crumby hotel, because the funding for their accommodation when on business trips comes from the government, as is also (scandal) tends to for leisure means. If he was on a private holiday why would he come alone, and have a random stripper, and even for that matter, stay in a crumby hotel.
There are a few presentation, formatting things also. At the very beginning:
The way this is laid out is messy. You have your speech presented properly later on in the story so you must also present it properly here too. I also don't like the excessive use of the -, the only place you should use that is after the yes to show the word is cut midway, not after the word mom. The grammar and phrasing isn't good in this opening paragraph but in the whole rest of the story I didn't immediately notice anything as I was reading which is good. Since this is the first bit you need to clean it up to give a good starting impression. For example.
Ok the second bit I was confused at was the time titles. It took me up until the '3 hours before' that you mean't three hours earlier. At first I thought the opening paragraph was the current time. The 12 hours was 12 hours before the opening paragraph, and the three hours was three hours before the 12 hours.
To fix this I think you should just put time stamps instead.
[7:59]
[12:00]
[9:45]
Or something like that.
Great things that had me hooked and commanded me to read more.
Great opening line.
Amazing.
It was unexpected but I admit, the anticipation of what would happen next was good. I expected something funny.
On that matter if you are going to have the guy a stripper you should have him maybe think this killer is his client? Take of his own pants to... that would be funny. Anyway, I really liked it as a story, though I still think the ending needs to be improved. Good job.
To explain some things: The politician was the target, that much was obvious. What was less obvious was that character ended up shooting the wrong man. To the police, it was a confusing case because the man seemed professional in all other aspects. They were baffled as to why the murderer would kill only the stripper and not the politician, since he was so skilled. The stripper was hired by the politician himself to be waiting in the room when he arrived at the hotel. That's how he had the key. The amount of time the killer spent in the room was 3 hours. That was enough time to pass for the killer to think his target had returned from his affairs, reasonably. As for the politician, think about this from a politicians perspective. If you're going to bone your male stripper, where would be the worst place to do it? A government paid hotel, which is probably accompanied by paparazzi. Staying at a discreet hotel, without his family (obviously), and ordering his stripper to enter without him, would be the best way to attract the least attention. I hope that cleared some things up.
I'm correct in using my grammar and formatting. He was cut mid-sentence as well, calling for the use of the em dash. I do notice I didn't double em-dash, which is the correct usage. I don't need to start new paragraphs when it's the same speaker. That's that.
The time stamps were a bit confusing I guess. It was 12 hours before the opening paragraph. 6 hours before the opening paragraph. 3 hours before the opening paragraph took place. Then finally we catch up when it says current time. I hope that clears things up.
I don't mean to be harsh if that's how I come off. I will allow the readers to decide if I annoyed them, with my estimations, on their own though (lol). Thank you for reading my piece, I appreciate it, and thank you for the review:) (Sincerely!)
Yes, what you explained was obvious in the piece, I am just being honest with you and telling you how I didn't like it and why.
Sorry for wasting your time >:/
its pretty long but good.
Pretty descriptive.
Drama style of narration which is nice.
Keep up writing,ATB.
I'm sorry it took a while for anyone to review it, they were to busy laughing their arses off, like I am right now. This might just be the best short story I've ever seen on here, it's pretty rare to see humour on here, and this work set the bar.
The idea was amazing, and I loved how without even knowing, he had covered up all his work. That last line had me begging for more. This work was amazing! Screw people who find fault in it, Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much for reading my piece! I'm glad you enjoyed it. My ego has been stroked thoroughly with your kind words. Again thank you for the encouragement.
Any time bruv.
