We all know what it feels like
To be in a room
Full of laughter
And not be happy ourselves
All the smiles make you sad
All the giggling makes you mad
And overall
You just don't want to be there
And you wonder,
Why can't I be happy too?
Why I can't I grin
And feel joy too?
Why can't I be like the others?
You being down is the answer
That is why you are different
One person says something
And it makes your day rainy
That's why you are sad
That's why you feel mad
So please don't overreact
We all love to see your smile
And hear your laugh
So be who you are
And don't stop there
Spread your happiness
Everywhere!
When you see someone down
Just go over and smile
Just say, "Hey"
And talk to them a while
Comment something nice about them
And they are sure to grin
Anything can bring up someone's chin!
I am not a poet, and this is not a particular kind of poem. But I am open to ridicule, because I think poetry is beautiful and I would love to try it someday. Or at the least be good at it...

Your comment was posted, but it wasn’t long enough to count as a review. Reviews need about four complete sentences (at least 250 characters). Try writing another review that explains your thoughts in more detail — the author will appreciate it, and you’ll earn points for it.
To start off, good for you, trying something new!
Of course, since you're not really familiar, the wording is a little wonky in some spots. I'm sure every other review will attack you for capitalization and punctuation, so I'm just going to give you some advice. Story writing is fantastic, (if that's what you normally do,) but poetry can be a wonderful world that most have never explored. You can put your feelings out there honestly without hiding behind the mask of a character, but you're still somehow cloaked by the emotions. Your words have the ability to make someone cry or laugh, you can build or demolish empires with merely sentences. Study poetry, read poetry, analyze it, and your universe will be opened to a plethora of awful and incredible emotions.
Keep writing, keep trying, and keep studying. Eventually, poetry will be something that flows naturally through you. You have the ability to see something and have smooth verses flow into your mind and body that seem to captivate all of your attention. Poetry becomes a way of life, a brand new language that only you and other poets can speak. It's lovely and anyone can do it, but you must keep trying. Go for it, because the world doesn't have enough beautiful poets.
Hey! So, I like this. A lot. I can really connect with it.
The line "and overall
You just don't want to be there" is a little, off. You could put another line there, or you could change the wording a little bit. It just doesn't flow right. I know you said you aren't a poet, but you could be! I think you have something here. And again, some more descriptive language, or less of a rhyme on lines like "all the smiling makes you sad, all the giggling makes you mad". You could change makes to drives on the second, and "why can't I be happy too? Why can't I grin, and feel joy too?" You could change that wording. It's a bit repetitive. But again, you have talent. Just keep writing!
"All the smiling makes you sad
All the giggling makes you mad."
I feel like these lines would feel a bit less repetitive if you maybe said "all the giggling *drives you mad". Also, i believe that it should be all *of the smiling and all *of the giggling. Also, i feel like to get the full affect, both smiling and giggling need adjectives. I think that it will convey more emotion that way. It does state how it makes one feel, but i think that instead of just stating it needs to also be shown.
"And overall
You just don't want to be there."
Something is missing here. I know that this probably isn't helpful, but you need to add a line or something to make this part sound more poetic. It's not that it doesn't flow well, it isn't at all feel choppy, it just feels like it needs something for the sake of beauty of text. Maybe just a simple line, like,
"You just don't want to be there,
Surrounded by joy,"
or
"You just don't want to be there,
As you burn with envy."
You should obviously use something better than that, those are just the first two things that popped into my head. But you get the general idea, i shall assume.
"Why i can't i be happy too?
Why i can't i grin
and feel joy too?
Why i can't i be like the others?"
Again, this feels more like a group of sentences. Maybe try something more along the lines of:
"Why mustn't i feel the same joy?
Instead of hearing laughter
as my heart fills with sorrow?
Why must i be the only one forcing a smile?"
Just make sure to use enough descriptive language and use it well. Always read your poems aloud, have someone else read them to you or use text to speech. Sometimes hearing it helps. Poetry is not just appealing to the eye, but appealing to the ear and appealing to the mind. It must make you think, while also sounding lovely.
"You being down is the answer
To you being different."
First of all, i personally don't like your use of the word "down." I feel like you could've used a much better word there. I can't think of the correct one at the moment, but i feel like another word would fit very well. Also, i think that that line is just pointing out the obvious. It's basically just restating your first stanza. I honestly feel that the recap is unnecessary.
"One person says something
And it makes your day rainy."
I like this idea that you have here, but i personally feel that it should be phrased differently. Perhaps something along the lines of:
"Words come and strike you
And the sun begins to fade."
I think that personifying words there would be a good thing to do. Sometimes adding personification can really add beauty to writing.
"So please don't overreact
We love your smile
And to hear you laugh."
I love these lines. Although the forth wall was very thin, this really broke it in a friendly and welcoming way. It really felt like a friend reaching out and saying, "i care." The brief stanza following it also has the same affect, and may even have more of the affect.
"Comment something nice about them."
I feel like this line was a bit awkward and choppy. Maybe reword it slightly. Maybe something along the lines of:
"Speak kind words to them."
I really like this poem, despite the amount of notes that i have. They are mere suggestions that you can completely ignore if you would like to. This really is your poem. I feel like it has a very sweet and heartwarming message toward the end. I am personally not a fan of happy endings, but i do like the way that it turned out in the end. It felt really hopeless in the beginning, so the ending was especially uplifting. I do have one more note, though.
Don't say that you aren't a poet. If you haven't written many poems, then you may just not be a very experienced poet. I, myself do not have much experience. I still refer to myself as a poet though. You really do have a talent, and even if you didn't, you still should not but limits on what you are and can be.
Thank you for the review! I will try to fix the things you pointed out!
Hello there!
I totally know where you're coming from with this. I'm the same way. No worries, as long as you have an open mind to feedback, which you do.
So, yes. This isn't the best poem ever written. It could use some work. The rhyme scheme is iffy and the flow is sometimes choppy, but I'm sure some other, more experienced poet than myself will come along and help you further. But the content... when I read the first stanza, I was thinking, "Oh my Gosh, someone else understands that!" I can't stand it when other people are happy when I'm not, but I'm too shy to speak up about it. So your poem really struck a chord with me. If I could like it more than once, I totally would. This is so relatable on so many levels, but it just needs a bit of fixing up. You totally live up to your username with this poem.
Keep on writing!
Hey, Unique!
This is a cute poem and surely not what I thought it was going to be, but in a good way! Because I thought it was going to be depressing. This actually really reminds me of Dr. Suess! Haha, if that's the kind of poetry you want to write then you could totally do it! You can try humorous poems.
So my one nitpick is this line:
"You being down is the answer
That is why you are different"
I understand what you're trying to say, but it's worded a little awkwardly. Try using a different word from "down", like "alone" or something. Just rephrase it so the poem runs a bit smoother.
Another thing is punctuation, and honestly that never bothers me and I didn't even notice it here, but as a warning, you're probably going to get other reviews talking about that.
Final thing I did notice, "Just say, "Hey", 'hey' doesn't need to be capitalized.
So for a beginning poet, honestly this isn't even bad, I actually enjoyed it because it's a switch from depressing works I usually read. So great job doing that. I'll be looking forward to reading and reviewing more of your poetry works!
Keep expressing.

Thanks for the review! Yeah, I really do have to work on my punctuation and capitalization... While I was reading it to myself I thought that it sounded a bit like Dr. Suess....
I liked reading this, and I found it very relatable.
It reminds me of a party I went to (and broke down at). Even though I was down because I was among people that were so much louder and more outgoing than me, someone came up to talk to me and it helped me feel at least a little better... even though I left the party right after that.
I like that it's not any particular form, or any particular rhyme scheme, but seems more like a stream of consciousness piece; like you started on a topic and went with it. It worked out very nicely.
Thank you! Yeah, I am not a poet. I don't really know poetry. So... I wouldn't be able to make a particular rhyme scheme, or pattern... ;D
