The disease that took my father
Now eats at my lungs.
The disease that took his father
now quickens my breath.
The tumor that ruined a generation
working in silence.
A silent killer
causing turmoil and tears
How dare you rear your face.
I will see my daughter down the aisle.
I will see my son hold his head high.
I will see my wife smile till her dying day,
and i will see you die
here right now.
Excuse my language, but my anger rages
When i think of you.
I see my son playing ball all alone
and I feel what you have done.
I cannot sit or stand or run or jump;
You've proved your damaging effects,
But my spirit remains strong!
I miss my son as he misses me
but I can't stand on my own two feet.
My knees are as weak as my breathing
while you invade my body.
No mr. cancer this is my body
so get the hell out!
I will survive this. I will
win my freedom from you.
I do not give myself permission
to quit and die
I will see myself to victory.
This fight is not over,
I will come back.
My body regains its' strength
as I slowly regain my hope.
I have things to live for.
A family right behind me.
Killing you, I say goodbye,
so, get the hell out!
The flaws in this poem perfect it. I believe this was a very emotional bittersweet poem. I congradulate you
Wow. This was a fantastic piece. It was just really, really good. That's all I can really say. Great job on this. Keep pushing.
I loved this poem! So much emotion packed into so few words! For me, I don't know how having someone in your family die of cancer feels, but I do know about caring for alot of children that have AIDS. I have been to and my dad works with an orphanage called Rehema Home in Nairobi, Kenya, and more than half of the sixty kids there have AIDS. Your poem helped me realize that having a sickness like that can be devastating, but it can also make you the strongest person you can be.
Thanks for writing this poem, and my prayers are with you. Sorry about your dad and grandpa, I hope you CAN live to see your daughter marry and your wife life to an old age. I hope you ARE there for the things in life that matter the most.

Aww this poem made me cry. I loved it! I really like it when poems have a ton of emotion in them. My favorite part was when you were saying all of the things you were refusing to miss. I would not change one thing about this poem.
I mainly just wanted to tell you that you will be in my prayers. Keep on fighting (and writing)! You have talent.

This piece brought tears to my eyes and I do not know weather they were tears of pitty or tears of sorrow. My great-grand dad Is 90 years old and has had cancer in 5 different places and is still fighting. My dad is at high risk of heart attack as well.
Yo go brotha!
Power to you.
My daddy is an oncologist/epidemiologist and studies this stuff( and I plan to), and we'll fight until you defeat this genetic monster.
Yessssssssss!!!!!
And that's my "high" for today.

Wow. This post deserves a thousand likes. Very deep, very emotional ...
God, I sound shallow.
Nothing at all I can possibly pick you up on here. Keep strong; keep faith: you will get through this!
With you in spirit.

Hey, Tm, I have a couple of nitpicks for ya:
>> No apostrophe there.
This isn't a review. Just wanted to point out those petty mistakes for you. =) Instead, I'm commenting a reader.
At first, I love the rhythm. But, I felt like it was lost by the middle. But ignore that. This is your poem. Do as you want. I love the first stanza, 'cause it explains the theme. I also like the part where you were, like, "I'll see you die now..." It was cool.
KEEP WRITING!

Man, my dad's really sick right now so I know how it feels. You see death right in front of you, and for a second you're scared...then you're angry. Your poem totally showed that. The part I related to most was when you talk about the things you refuse to miss, because I've been going outside and tossing the baseball on my own, since my dad's too weak to play anymore. It's a really bad feeling to know what's gone, but to come back with a fighting vengence, man, is epic. I feel like I'm still in the weak falling-off-the-edge-of-the-earth stage, so I know how much this kind of strength takes. For that alone, congrats. It totally resonated in your poetry. Keep on fighting.
I took out the F words. better or worse?
Also, this piece should be rated 16+ or 18+ due to the language.
I did enjoy this piece, but unlike others, I didn't like the use of the F-word. In my eyes, it dulls the piece, and takes away from it's greatness. But on the other hand! The poem is still great, and as others have already mentioned, very emotional. I can connect. My great uncle died two years ago due to pancreatic cancer. Last year my grandmother got breast cancer. Twice. This year, pre-cancerous cells have been found in my great grandfather, and docters are doing what they can to remove that. Anyway... I could really feel your emotions shine through in this poem. Great job!
Keep writing!
xoxo,
Kiicoh.
hey there... Its a nicely written poem.... Very nicely indeed...Though I understand the reason for using the F word so much, I believe decreased use would have been better... But that doesn't ruin your poem... The cause and theme of the poem is what I fell for. Cancer indeed is dreadful... I hope your poem will help someone else too... You should put it up at a larger scale too... I will do good to many...
Take the F word out of the middle stanza, there. It didn't fit with me, but I really liked it used in the other two stanzas. Keep writing, press on. I liked it, a lot!
Seeing people like you actually dealing with hardships much harder than mine makes me want to be better. Know that not only we pray for you to live long, but you have helped me keep myself together. I admire your strength, and it really makes me think how lucky I am.
Fight, never let anything take you down!
Don't let anything or anyone bring you down.

Hello!
Wow this was a touching, amazing, and overall...beautiful.
I give you props for the title, it was very capturing and it hooked my the minute I read it.
I am very sorry for your loss.
I love how you write with emotion and bravery.
you did an amazing job
I loved reading it, it was absolutly perfect!
Thank you for posting this wonderful poem
Wow...I had no idea.
This is an incredible poem, very emotional and full of passion. It feels real in a way that few written things can, and I applaud not only your writing skills, but also your bravery. I know what it's like to lose someone to cancer, but I can never imagine what actually having it is like. It really makes me stop and think how small and stupid my problems are in comparison.
You one of my favorite writers, so do me a solid favor and kick cancer's ass.
It's actually, unfortunately based on personal experience, but i press on. thank you all very much
Wow.. I really, really do like this one a lot. But you've heard this all before in the other posts I'm sure! I read them. You're readers are very moved by your words and your emotion. You have a wonderful talent being this writer that you are. Already a ton of fans. You can add me to that growing list!
... I'm very lucky to be able to say I've never experienced a loss from cancer, nor have I had the burden of dealing with such a disease. But I feel deeply for the poem still. It was a beautiful piece. The only thing that gave me little confusion was, was this you writing the poem figuratively? Or is it based on true experience? Either way, I'm sorry for what you've encountered. But this was a truly wonderful poem..
I really loved the message you painted through writing this... Cancer bites
Hey there,
Wow this is really deep. Emotions is seeping right through and I am completely gripped. Your strength is so evident and I pray that you keep fighting this. Fight. And Cancer deserves no mercy so curse at it all you want. And you're lucky you have the talent to write that way you can vent some stress, anger, pain, let it flow from your heart and possess your pen. Bravo!! A tear is rolling down my cheek as we speak and I can only hope it goes well for you and that you overcome this. You beat this.
I love this poem. I wish there was a LOVE option.
All the best.

Great Job this poem suprisingly flowed really well and was really simple to understand and get the meanings of! (Especially since really vague poetry that makes me have to think about it I never undertand
)
I loved this piece! Here's my favorite part:
Excuse my language, but my anger rages
When i think of you.
I see my son playing ball all alone
and I feel what you have done.
I cannot sit or stand or run or jump
so cancer f*** off.
Keep up the good work, sorry about your grandpa and dad... you are so strong keep chugging along!
Amazing I could feel the emotion so strong and stable, this was a great poem and I loved how you wrote it filled with determination and strength! Great writing, hope everything works out for you!
Love,
SoulSaver
F*** cancer, tell it to get off of your cloud man. Killed my dad's old man.
"Hey, you, cancer, get off of our cloud!"
Thank you very much guys
can you like the piece?
I Loved this poem. It's absolutely brilliant. I can feel you're emotions and all the thoughts that you've had on this journey; and that ( in my opinion) is how writing should be.
This is definitely my favorite stanza. When I read this, it gave me goose bumps. It truly resembles your strength and incentive to fight pass this pattern.
This is definitely my most favorite piece I've read while on YWS.
I don't see any mistakes other than Uncapitalized I's. Other than that, Please keep writing
I truly loved this. And I didn't mind the profanity, which is unusual for me in poems. This was extremely emotional. It also hits a soft spot for me because my great-grandmother died of cancer last year, and I can relate to your feelings, especially;
Keep writing, dreaming, being. Long live! :
