The Existence of God

The Existence of God

The existence of God is one of the most frequent questions brought up in this modern world. Scientists, atheists, materialists and other groups of people are constantly at work to produce fragile scientific theories to deny the existence of a higher being.

Evolution, Charles Darwin’s baby, is one of the most popular of the many theories. According to evolutionists, we began as stupid apes who walked around on their hind legs. Over millions of years we changed, grew intellects and our bodies morphed into a higher species, etc…

If we changed into a higher being, then why haven’t other creatures done so as well? The dog and other animals like the ape haven’t change like we supposedly did. True, they do gradually change to match their surroundings, but not as dramatic as evolution.

Cavemen seemed to possess the same intelligence that we do, but with limited resources. They painted ornate paintings on cave walls, I haven’t seen very many apes with artistic talent like that! They created fire by using friction. The cavemen built many tools that we still use today, the hammer, knife, awl and needle. I have never seen a carpenter ape.

Another reason to see that the idea is absurd: When would we have received our souls? Darwinism portrays the prehistoric man as being without reason. “A mindless, wandering animal that traveled in herds, having no language to communicate.”

This fragile theory should be lowered to the status of Hypothesis. Nothing has actually been proven to say that it is possible. But in a Godless world ruled by science, anything that is an excuse to say that there is no God becomes automatically a tested theory.

Atheism is probably one of the largest of any of the scientific theories that apply to religion. Sometimes it seems more like a cult or an “attention getter” than a scientific theory.

Atheism’s right hand is the Big Bang theory and evolution. Men have been trying to “create” a scientific explanation for the world around us since it was created.

Cicero, an orator of ancient Rome, once defended the belief of creation against a Greek poet who believed in “Blind Chance.”

Epicurus the poet attributed the world as the accidental coming together of atoms. (Essentially a Big Bang).

Cicero answered, “If anyone supposes that this most glorious ad beautiful world was made by the accidental coming together of atoms, I do not understand why he should not suppose that the Annals of Ennius(a very big book) might be produced by pouring out on the earth the twenty-one letters of the alphabet in countless profusion.”

The belief in no God leaves us with no purpose for our lives! Without an afterlife, what purpose does our conscience serve? If there are no consequences for our actions and no reward, then our conscience serves us nothing.

But there IS a God.

Even if the Big Bang theory is correct, what made the “matter” they talk about? You cannot start out with nothing and end up with something, unless you are God. Something had to have made the matter that started the reaction.

Materialism denies the existence of God and only relies on science and chance. If you ever had any doubt of the existence of God, you would only need to take a walk outside. The natural world has a sense of orderliness and purposeful arrangement. Just look up during a clear night! The universe is an amazing work of art and was planned so well that nothing in it is meaningless. The birds and the trees, even the stars! They all cry out in a single voice, telling any that will listen. There is a GOD!

Even the Indians, who had no knowledge of religion save what they saw around them, knew that there was a hidden power behind everything. They called him the God of the sun.

By nature, human beings are both religious and have a sense of morality. Since the beginning, when Cain and Able gave their sacrifices up to God, people have been trying to please Him.

So all of these arguments boil down to one, which is referred to as the law of Causality. “Anything which begins to exist must have been brought into existence by something distinct from itself.

There will always be people denying the existence of God, because we have a free will just as much as a conscience and that choice is easier that religion. The theories of evolution and the Big Bang are as fragile as sheets of glass. God and creation may still seem a mystery to us, but everything around you is proof of the existence of God.

Hey!
So, to start off, I just want to say I think Darwinism could have a direct correlation to god. If you believe in a god of any kind, most people believe that god makes them better, therefore enhancing their strengths. In the process of evolution, organisms are growing and getting better, enhancing strengths and learning from mistakes. That’s what most people take from the Bible, is it not?

One thing I should say in a disclaimer: I don’t believe in god. I used to, but I have since distanced myself from it (For reasons I prefer to keep private, I’m sure you wouldn’t like them. I’ve talked to many people about it, please don’t try to sway me on my beliefs lol). Anyway, I do agree with your argument of the Big Bang Theory. I do think it had to come from somewhere. As I’ve said, I don’t believe in god, but I do believe some force allowed everything to show up. If god is that explainable force for you, so be it. :)

Science is something that most people found unexplainable until recently. In the future, maybe people will find a way to test if god is there, and by then I’m sure all Christians will believe science in a need for it to back them up. If you use Darwinism or the Big Bang Theory as evidence instead of denouncing it (which you partially did) I’m sure you could sway a lot of people. :)

Hi! This was really good, Timothy. I am not here to review it though. It doesn't need editing. You did a really good job on this, despite what that one person thinks. Once again, amazing job =)

Thank you, Annie! This was written quite a while ago. xd

Your welcome. Oh haha =)

Hello Timmy!

I guess the madness has begun where I start going through your portfolio. Not a stone will remain unturned! I thought this was a tricky one to approach though because I generally stay out of reviewing controversial works to avoid being too opinionated. So I am going to stick to reviewing this an essay, because I think if you state your facts right as well as take out some of the informality here, you can have a pretty strong and persuasive essay. It just needs a bit of shaping up.

I have read the other reviews and seen what they've already stated so I will try not to repeat things.

According to evolutionists, we began as stupid apes who walked around on their hind legs.

One thing about essays is that they need to remain unbiased until the very end. That means we shouldn't be able to see your opinion throughout the stating of facts all the way until we reach the conclusion where we can see what you think based off the evidence given. That way, also the reader can make up their own mind and compare it to your conclusion as well. One way to make it less biased is to take out an adjectives when it comes to fact stating. So it would just be 'we began as apes who walked...' and so on. I suggest you go through and do this to the rest of the essay (excepting the conclusion of course) as well. :)

Over millions of years we changed, grew intellects and our bodies morphed into a higher species, etc…

Don't use etc in an essay :P It sounds like you've run out of ideas when you have already given a sufficient amount. It's just an unnecessary ending to the sentence.

The dog and other animals like the ape haven’t change like we supposedly did.

I would get rid of the supposedly. It isn't really necessary to support the sentence.

his fragile theory should be lowered to the status of Hypothesis. Nothing has actually been proven to say that it is possible. But in a Godless world ruled by science, anything that is an excuse to say that there is no God becomes automatically a tested theory.

Edit: should be lowered to the status of a hypothesis. (No need for the capitalization.)

Also, to make the last sentence smoother to read I would change it to 'that there is no God automatically becomes a tested theory."

Other than those few points, I guess I have to leave it because I need to go. ;) I will be back for more!

The notion that evolution’s goal is to create a "higher being" is a common misconception for people that dont understand evolution. Evolution describes the dynamic of change that occurs in populations capable of reproduction over time. It goes in every direction and has no goals. Evolution does not sit around and ask itself “how can i create a race of ‘higher beings’ that are capable of space travel?” Evolution is about adaptation and reproductive viability. Species change to fit niches and can become less complex such as the blind mole rat.

The history of human evolution that you posted is such a spit in the face of every archaeologist and display of your own lack of knowledge of the subject. Nowhere in your dismal writings do you say the terms; Homo neanderthalensis, Homo rhodesiensis, Homo antecessor, or Homo ergaster. How could you even expect to be taken seriously? If you read in detail about human evolution it will certainly at least make a dent in your ridiculous believes. If you read about the fact that Homo neanderthalensis was our cousins, that interbred with us, and who and only live on through the small portion of their genetic contribution of our species, then it would surely make you question god’s fickle care of his supposedly favorite species.

Your claim that “Indians, who had no knowledge of religion” is so down right ignorantly racist that I am having a hard time keeping my words civil. The Native Americans have such an array of very intricate belief systems, they are every bit as complex as any mainstream religion. Quatzequatel, Hahgwehdiyu, Viracocha are just part of the tip of the iceberg of what you know nothing about!

I dont even know how anyone that has even read the bible can even conclude that yahweh even cares about free will. Did yahweh respected Balam’s “free will “ when he tried to curse isreal? Or did he use his powers to force him to bless israel? Did god respect the Pharaoh’s free will or did god “harden his heart”?

I think i can only agree with one thing in your insulting ramblings: By nature humans have a sense of morality, no divine being abusing your fear of death needed.

Thank you for leaving me a review! They are always helpful, no matter if its someone who is praising or critiquing my work. In this case, it was critiquing. Now I am not someone who gets hurt when a reviewer is extremely rude, so you are saved there from me just rambling on about how mean you are. I will just combat the points you make.
As for evolution, there are two kinds. Macroevolution and microevolution. Microevolution can be seen as just adaption to ones surroundings over a few hundred years, changing...(for instance, there is a lizard in Texas that has no eyes. Living inside a cave for hundreds of years adapted them to not have them)
Then there is macroevolution, which is what evolution is really all about. Microevolution actually became a tested theory, but not macro... Macro is what scientists think happened to the apes, and so many animals. Thinking that we all started out from one simple organism is not correct thinking. Actually, I don't think you did your research. Macroevolution is a species becoming more complex, not less complex. I think you confused it with microevolution(adapting)
We can even consider Lucy, one of the few "ape" men they discovered while they searched blindly for anything that would lead them to not believe in creationism. Lucy is just another ape, my friend. They found wear on her knuckles, and much more, all proving that she was just another ape. If there were "missing links", all leading to the modern man we have today, then why aren't there more of them? Thousands, no, millions of dinosaur bones have been found, so why so few "ape men?" All they have found are a few, rather incomplete, skeletons that prove nothing.
I don't think that you can call me racist... Why? For one, I am part Indian. ;) And secondly, how is it racist to say that the Indians knew there was a God, despite the fact no one had told them? Jesus said, "Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet believe." So they knew there was a God, without anyone telling hem so. And it doesn't matter what religion they chose... Even the Aztecs had a religion, no matter how bad the religion was. My point was that everyone is naturally religious. So really, it could be seen as favoritism, not racism.
The God of the Old Testament is a different God than that of the New... He was a God of lightning and thunder, striking those dead who dared defile his name, etc... The God of the New Testament, I can assure you, will not take anyone into heaven that doesn't want it, because they have the free will to deny it.
So I will end my reply here, saying that your insulting review didn't affect me at all. I appreciate you telling me your opinion, but next time, please just respect the fact that this is a literary work. Hence, it isn't rambling. This took a good long time to build.

I dont think you did your research. I dont even think you have basic reading comprehension. Evolution does not always strive to become more complex. It is way more flexible than that. It can and does make species less complex. For example the blind mole rat I mentioned in my first post and um I dont know%u2026 %u2018the lizard in Texas with no eyes that has adapted over hundreds of years to have no eyes%u2019 you mentioned. Why you think that isnt an example of an species become less complex over time is beyond me.

Lucy, the Australopithecus, is one of MANY examples of a discoveries of early hominids. Of course Lucy is an ape, we evolved from apes. Have you ever considered that maybe just maybe the term dinosaur is a broader group than %u201Cape men%u201D but no Im sure gawd dun it.

What you said WAS RACIST because your statement %u201CIndians, who had no knowledge of religion %u201C is a complete insult on their culture. The Native Americans had a diverse set of believes. Your statement treats them like simple minded dolts. The way you further victimize them by pretending their rich religious stories never existed is absolutely disgusting. If you would just read one book about Native American religions then you would have never have said that. How dare you imply god blessed the Native Americans. Did he bless them all the way to the grave and to the reservations? It is a shame that you ignore their suffering and spit on their graves with your ignorant statements about their culture.

Stop insulting me. I am not naturally religious. If you think the Aztec religion is %u201Cbad%u201D then you need to look at your own religion. Let us be clear YOUR RELIGION IS DOWNRIGHT DISGUSTING!

%u201CNow therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man intimately. But all the girls who have not known man intimately, spare for yourselves.%u201D

Numbers 31

That is one of the many examples I can find of how immoral your religion is. What makes your religion better than the Aztecs? You think your religion doesnt encourages human sacrifices? Jesus was a human sacrifice. Jephthah sacrificed his daughter. Abraham was willing to kill his son at the drop of a hat.

What you posted does not deserve to be called a literary work. It was insipid chatter where you try to spread your insanity. Im SO glad that you assured me how god is going to be choosy when it comes to letting people get into paradise. It is exactly the kind of fear mongering i was talking about in my last sentence of my first post.

You know, to start out with calling me names right off the bat doesn%u2019t really give me incentive to look into your way of seeing things. It doesn%u2019t make me want to be nice, either%u2026 I have been civil the entire time%u2026 So why do you stoop so low as to ridicule and insult my beliefs and religions, when I have only showed you why I thought it was wrong, keeping a civil tongue? I am going to reply this time, but please reply with the same level of decency. I can have a debate, but a name calling battle? No.
As for evolution, you say that evolution doesn%u2019t make species more complex%u2026 Explain this one to me, then. Why did the species, which started out from a single-celled organism, %u201Cevolve%u201D UP to a human, millions of years later. If evolution doesn%u2019t make species become more complex, how did that happen?
And once again, you are mistaking macroevolution with microevolution. Macroevolution would be an ape turning into a man. Microevolution would be a wolf turning into a dog. An ape is so much different than humans are! There is an enormous difference between the two! One is adaption%u2026 They say that a dog has the entire DNA of a wolf, but only uses parts of it, and if released back into the wild would become wild once more after a few generations%u2026 Since we would be comparable to the dog in this situation, or so evolutionists say, would you say that we would become like an ape again after a few generations of being in the wild? I think not.
So you say Lucy is an ape. Thank you! That was what I was trying to say! How is she closer to human than any of the other apes out there? She isn%u2019t. She is just a normal ape. Just an example of how quickly people jump to conclusions is this little story. Some archaeologist found some ancient tools in a cave or some such place, and inside the toolbox, they found a single tooth. Instantly, they were crazy about it! They had people draw pictures of Nebraska Man and everything, only to find out later that the tooth really belonged to a pig.
Are you saying that the Indians did know of Jesus, then? Before the Settlers showed up? I think not. I don%u2019t think you understand what I was saying. I was implying that people have a natural lean towards religion!
You know, many of the holy people in the world had difficult lives%u2026 Most of them, in fact. Jesus%u2019 mother, the holiest person every had a difficult life. We aren%u2019t meant for this world, but for the next! This is a place to show our metal, to show God that we are here for him. To fight for him and for what is right%u2026 So if God really did make their lives hard, it wouldn%u2019t have been because he didn%u2019t like them. God loves us all, my friend. All of us.
No. God isn%u2019t choosy about who is to come into paradise. YOU choose. He will not force you to do right and stand up for truth. He doesn%u2019t force you to do anything. You have free will to go to heaven, just as much as you have the free will to eat a lot and get fat. Although it is hard!
The God of the Old Testament was one of thunder, one of fire. His chosen people were the Israelites, and the rest of the world was evil and corrupt, with some exceptions. Those people who he ordered the Israelites to kill in Numbers 31 were evil people, trying to drag Israel down into hell. So, instead of having the Israelites drug down, he ordered them to be killed. They were his chosen people. When they rejected him, putting him on the cross, they weren%u2019t his chosen people anymore.
A New covenant was made during the last supper, and the old law was abolished. Now, instead of %u201Can eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth%u201D it was %u201Cturn your other cheek.%u201D
The Aztecs sacrificed men daily on their altars to their pagan gods. I think Christianity is much different%u2026 Our God sacrificed himself for us and our sins%u2026 What was their god, besides Satan? Really, you should stop just ridiculing and insulting my religion. I haven%u2019t been rude to you or called you or your religion names. I don%u2019t think it%u2019s necessary for you to do so, either.
A literary work is something that took time to do, is considered writing, and can be posted. There is no other niche that has to be filled. My work has fit them all.
Spread my insanity? Really? I assure you, there are a lot more Christians on that site than just me. I am a Catholic and we number about a billion strong right now, so the %u201Cinsanity%u201D as you call it didn%u2019t start with me. It started about 2000 years ago.
If you would like to continue this, please do so without making fun of my religion or me. I haven%u2019t done so to you, but have given points and examples as to how you are incorrect. Please do the same and I shall reply.

You%u2019ve got a lot of nerve pal. You call tribes that yawah ordered to be killed %u201Cevil%u201D and claim the Aztec gods where really Satan, yet expect me to hold my tongue?

No Im not going to be dragged down to your level of decency. Im much more of a decent person than you are. I insult your religion because it deserves to be insulted. I showed you how your beliefs encouraged the wholesale slaughter of another group and promotes raping little girls and yet it didnt even phase you. Look at how easily you throw away your normal sense of morality out the window as soon as fairies get involved.

I said evolution doesnt ALWAYS make species complex. Sometimes it makes species simpler. This is why I told you that you lack basic reading comprehension. Please dont stop claiming i dont understand the difference between mircoevolution and macroevolution. I have never said anything that displayed I dont understand the difference.

Oh course I would NOT say that humans would start look more like chimpanzees in a few generations. Humans have existed for 200,000 years which would comprise way more than a few generations. I would appreciate if youd stick to the time table evolutionists and archaeologists have given us instead of twisting it so you can stay face.

Of course I would describe Lucy as an ape. Our ancestors were apes. That is what any evolutionist would say.

Of course I wouldnt say the Native Americans knew about jesus. Im not a mormon!!!!! I dont know how you could possibly think I believe that.

Stop calling me %u201Cfriend%u201D anyone that would support genocide and rape is not my friend.

freezingwreck, you mentioned a Bible verse that talked about the ordering of the slaughter of an entire tribe of people. I remember that verse because when I first read it I almost had the same reaction you had. But I studied it and came to understand it better.
Here's the verse in full: "Therefore kill all that are of the male sex, even of the children: and put to death the women, that have carnally known men. But the girls and all the women that are virgins save for yourselves."
Now Moses wasn't ordering a mass raping as you seem to think. If you had read the entire chapter, you would have better understood the situation. Moses was purifying the people of Israel because of their unlawful plundering of the Madianites. They had been ordered to kill every man, woman, and child but because of their weakness, they had not. So Moses ordered them to do what has been already quoted above. He was simply purifying the people of Israel and trying to remove all occasions of sin from their path. By putting to death the men and women who had lived in sin, he was eliminating the risk. He saved the virgins because he believed them to pure and good and not an occasion of sin for the people of Israel.

As to your remarks on evolution, let me give you the definition of the two different types of evolution. Microevolution is the adapting of a species to it's surroundings. Many animals have done this, including the humans. Take the Africans, for example. They have adapted to their surroundings, the glaring sun and scorching heat of the desert. Micro-evolution is when a species changes into an entirely different species. This has never happened and never will happen. A species simply can not change it's DNA code. It's unnatural.

Hi there! Lucrezia here for a review.

Sorry this is so late. I'm probably going to start attacking your portfolio to get my fourth star. Don't be alarmed. XD

This is a really nice piece. I saw no grammatical or punctuation flaws, and zero misspellings. As others have noted, it would've been nice if you maybe dived in even further with your arguments and some of what you're presenting as facts. However that's easy to overlook, since as a whole the piece is well-worded and it's coming from your own subjective opinion.

Keep writing :)

Thanks for your review!

Attack with pleasure! I need reviews badly! :D

Timmy Jake, let me start by saying, i do completely agree with this and it's not just because i am christian. secondly, i really think you should work on your research even more, some facts were falling apart when even i know they were true. you need your reader to be convinced that you know what you are talking about. it is nice any way and makes for a very debatable but enjoyable read.

Will do. Thanks!

Well hello there.

Quite a debatable topic for an essay, but I'm not going to delve into that and start up some debates here. We have a separate forum for that, in any case; and science/religion is one of the most resurrected topics.

Rambling aside, let me head to the essay with my comments: For this essay to be solid, I think you need a little more substantial data.

Scientists, atheists, materialists and other groups of people are constantly at work to produce fragile scientific theories to deny the existence of a higher being.
. First thing, beware of generalizations. Scientific theories do not try to claim or refute a higher being for the most part. And there are loads of scientists who identify with a religion that believes in higher being(s). Avoid such generalized statement in essays, as it would give the reader an impression that you haven't done your research.

Cavemen seemed to possess the same intelligence that we do, but with limited resources. They painted ornate paintings on cave walls, I haven’t seen very many apes with artistic talent like that!
Well, try to be more specific, instead of cavemen. Try to read up on the different species and include that in your argument.

Hypothesis should not be capitalized there in the middle.

Another reason to see that the idea is absurd: When would we have received our souls? Darwinism portrays the prehistoric man as being without reason. “A mindless, wandering animal that traveled in herds, having no language to communicate.”
Is the last sentence here a direct quote from somewhere? A quick google search showed me nothing. But do put in a reference if it's from somewhere. One flaw here, Darwinism doesn't mention prehistoric men as without reason. If I've read correctly, this is what I remember.

Even the Indians, who had no knowledge of religion save what they saw around them, knew that there was a hidden power behind everything. They called him the God of the sun.
I am not sure what you mean, over here. What do you mean Indians? What time frame are you talking of? A reference would be useful here.

It seems like you're trying to foster a discussion on science/religion, but this is not the right forum to do so. I'm reading through this as an essay, leaving my opinions aside. So, a couple of points on how to make this a better essay :

- Reference.Reference.Reference. This is the key to a good essay. When talking about certain things, you need to cite sources and solidify what you're saying with those.
- The second problem here is with organization. Here you have an essay with lots of point, counter arguments etc. Try to list them down, and form a definitive flow from the beginning to the end. Don't just spout ideas for the sake of writing it down, create good links and make it a good read for the reader.

Cheers,
Lava

Thanks for the review. Will do in the future.

Interesting essay! However, I've always considered science and religion to complement one another quite nicely.

In fact, you brought up one of my favorite points: the big bang theory. A lot of people don't realize that the guy who first hypothesized the big bang was a Catholic priest from Belgium. Even fewer realize that when he first proposed it, many atheists immediately denounced it (Google Fred Boyle for the most famous opponent) because it seemed to give credence to the idea that God does exist.

Now the reason they denounced it is for something you actually kind of covered:

You cannot start out with nothing and end up with something, unless you are God.

Prior to the big bang theory, the prevailing theory for the creation of the universe was the steady state theory, which is the idea that the universe has always existed. But Christianity instead taught that there was initially nothing until God created the universe (creatio ex nihilo). That the big bang theory seemed to give greater weight to the Christian belief led many atheists to initially oppose it.

In any case, I just bring that up to highlight how religion and science can (and do) complement one another.

With regards to just the essay itself, I found it to be generally pretty well-written, and I like how you reference philosophers to build your case. I also greatly enjoy thought-provoking essays, and I think if nothing else, you've certainly covered the first cause argument quite well.

Thank you for your review! Yes, science and religion do complement each other in most respects, unless you are talking about Darwinism. I don't know about you, but I wasn't an ape millions of years ago! ;) This Catholic Priest... Could you give me his name? If you don't know, don't worry about it. When I speak to Atheists, the big bang theory seems to be their best friend, along with evolution.

Had to look it up because I can never spell his name right, but his name is Georges Lemaitre.

So I looked him up and it seems as though he put religion aside when he did his scientific work. So it seems as though the Big bang theory could be believed if you are Christian or Atheist. But, in the case of the Christian, it wouldn't be an accidental coming together of atoms. God arranged them himself... Or so it seems.

People ask if I ever experience writer's block and I just have to laugh... that's my default position.
