When I was four my dad broke my thumb by slamming the car door on it. I was really scared. The day after, my mom asked me if I wanted to go to the zoo. I said no my thumb was hurting to bad. When my dad had broke my thumb I had ice on it for a long time and I was in panic. Finally after my mom realized that I wasn't going to go to the zoo because my thumb was hurting she took me to urgent care. When she took me to urgent care they realized that my thumb was indeed broken. They put my thumb in a cast that went all the way up my forearm.
After a few weeks I returned to urgent care they took of my cast and realized that my fingernail on my thumb was weird and growing in the wrong direction. after this happened they diced to remove my fingernail and stitch it back on it was so painful. Though it had to be done, because my fingernail would have grown in a weird way.

Hello, sunshine!

I noticed that you're new here, so I'd first like to welcome you to YWS!
Alright, alright, it's time for the review.
The first thing that I want to emphasize on for you is spelling, grammar, and diction! As other reviewers might have also brought to your attention, it is super important to always proofread your work, and your title!
This means that "wierd" should actually be "weird".
I also suggest that you take a side when choosing to write out the word or the actual number when writing.. numbers. Do you get me?
So, instead of, "When I was 4..." it would have been better to write, "When I was four..."
Now, for your actual published work!
Instead of, "When I was four my dad," you should have written, "When I was four, my dad". Comma rules are super hard and tricky to remember and understand. There are some good sources on the internet where you can practice your grammar and spelling.
"I said no my thumb was hurting to bad" should have been "I said, "No, my thumb is hurting too much.""
Dialogue should always be kept between quotation marks!
In terms of diction, you use a lot of simple verbs and adjectives. Try using Thesaurus.com and entering words you want to use to find better complex, specific words that can better evoke reaction from your audience!
Overall, you have a lot of work to do to better your writing. Once you're done with perfecting the basic skills of spelling and grammar, I'm sure you'll be able to embrace other things. Great job! Keep writing!
Thanks for helping me out, and enjoying my work. I will try to do better editing next time. Also thanks for welcoming me! I was trying to be a little informal though.
Hi there!
I really found it a weird story but at the same time it was funny. I would hate it if I broke my thumb. It was a really good story and well done, keep posting!
Hello, here for a short review!
This is quite a story from your life. I hate to break my thumb; couldn't lift a pencil even if I tried. Anyway. A suggestion that I think that'll be beneficial towards your work would be adding more onto this or perhaps having this as a blog post. The size of this work can be considered, as I said before, something you might see on Facebook or in a blog. This whole story, now that I think about it, seems to just be a random factoid about yourself rather than an actual story. Like, it would be in some sort of About section of the sort.
As the reviewer stated below me, the word 'wierd' should be 'weird'. It can come off as a distraction for if the reader wanted to read this work. When the reader is glancing over books in the library, they look at the title of the work. If they see a typo or misprint, they will put it back. This saying, 'don't judge a book by the cover' does not apply here. In other words, be sure to look for misspellings in your title before you publish it.
Your beginning of this story seems a bit cliche (it could be since it is coming from your point of view). As a suggestion, describe what the day was like when you broke your thumb. Where were you and dad going that day? Another thing I noticed when reading it over is the shortness of sentences. In some cases this is fine (ex: describing a person such as an old man. Bright blue eyes. Sandy beard). The way you are using short sentences seems to be just info that the reader doesn't need to know. Perhaps try connecting some of the sentences (another idea I suggest is reading aloud).
The beginning of anything should have some form of hook that'll drag the reader in. Explore more onto your beginning.
In your beginning, it only seemed to repeat itself. Also, if it is a new sentence that starts after a period, be sure to capitalize it.
Overall, this was a nice story that can found somewhere (blog or Facebook). I want to know more about how everyone reacted to your broken thumb. What troubles did you have with it? Why didn't you mother know sooner?
Steggy
Thanks I figured out new ways to improve my work. I really am enjoying all the love I am getting from YWS.
You are going to hate me in this review. I'm just trying to help you become a better writer.
One thing that I can say that you did well is your natural way of storytelling. If this was told to a friend, this would be satisfying to hear since the story moved on quickly, while getting in the bits of the story
First. It's "weird", and not "wierd". Having incorrectly spelled weird can really hurt chances of readers clicking into the story. I also have a few problems with the title outside of the spelling error. You should capitalize everything needed in a title. Not doing that makes it look unprofessional. I suggest a simple google search to see what to not capitalize since it's pretty easy to understand. Also, this is just personal preference, but I suggest not to use ellipses in a story. In my opinion, it breaks flow of title, which is also not good.
Alright, maybe talking about the story itself is something you'll get the most out of in your writing skills.
"When I was four, my dad broke my thumb by slamming the car door on it. I was really scared."
The problem with your natural voice is that it's way too simplistic in a form of a written story. How did your dad break his thumb? What did you while being scared? These sentences had potential to be something more, but you didn't explore it. This is the story's main problem as far as the story goes. All these sentences can be broken into detail, yet it was never executed.
Last thing I want to mention is that you should check grammar. Proofread. Sentences without capitalization, "too" and "to" are used incorrectly, and some sentences needed to become two sentences or become a compound sentence. These rules are very basic and should be easy to fix.
This review may have been hurtful, but all I'm doing is trying to make you a better writer. Good luck int he future.
Thanks you have pointed out some very crucial flaws that I do want to correct in my future works thanks for helping me out!!!
This was indeed a weird story. I'm sorry that this happened to you, but it's kinda funny. I hope it never happens to you again, my condolences.
