knowing you will die,
without saying much a word
that your efforts will be for naught

This is Nikayla here dropping in for a review, as promised!
So I'm a little later than what I would've liked, though I'm here nonetheless. As you described, this is quite the short poem. I actually don't mind this as it's to the point with its theme for the most part. A preference of mine would be if you added a period at the end of the poem, though it's your stylistic choice there. I've just found that it would make the poem feel more solid. More complete, especially due to the length of the poem being so short, there's not much substance here to critique.
This work gets across the message that 'everything you do is for nothing' attitude which, while it's effective, I don't think it's exactly convincing. The ending doesn't seem quite complete to me. I believe that it might be the wording of 'naught' that is doing this when you could've just said 'nothing' though I understand you're attempting to be more dramatic.
I understand the title and why you've chosen to name this Oblivion. It fits the poem. What I don't completely understand is why you've chosen to label this, at least as a sub-genre, of horror? This poem isn't exactly what I think when I think of horror, though I suppose I can get behind the fear of having done all this work for nothing. I do think that a couple introductory words leading into the rest of the poem would be helpful here. In the first line, 'Oblivion is to live each day' would do even better as an opening. This poem's effective
enough at getting its theme across, so if that was your main intent, you succeeded.
Sorry if the review is a little short, though it is a shorter piece! If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. I hope I helped and have a great day.
Thanks for the review! And no worries about the review's length, you wrote PLENTY for the length of my poem
Hey, SynonymousTom!
My name is Bailey and I guess I'm reviewing your work. I've always had a love for poetry and by the "3am thoughts" description, I kind of got caught in it (late night/early morning poems always seem to be the most insightful). Anyhow, it is in fact short, as you obviously know haha, but it does have a lot of thought in it.
Oblivion is a topic that seems really poetic, and even though this poem didn't rhyme, it seemed to roll smoothly. I liked the fact you used the word "naught." I don't really know if it's being used correctly between "naught" and "not" but I find it cool, considering it makes your poem look like a staircase.
It's a very nice poem. I enjoyed it. Thanks for publishing it!
Have a nice day/night!
Sincerely, Bailey Matwiiw.
Thank you for the feedback!
Well then, it's been a while since I've done a review.
Hopefully I'm not too rusty!
Hi, I'm Maddie, and I'm reviewing your work.
Now this is a very short piece, one of the shortest poems I've seen on here that isn't a haiku. You definitely get to the heart of what oblivion means for you in this situation, and it definitely does pack a punch, even if it is short. The idea of death is always a tricky thing to grasp, much less confront in a poem this concise. But, of course, it could be argued that that's kinda the point behind your writing, whether it be intended or not is for you to say (cause you kinda wrote it).
Now, in terms of what I believe should be edited, it's really not much. I would say do one of two things;
1. Reword the last line.
The way you currently have it worded makes it sound like an unfinished thought. I'd change it to just "Your efforts will be for not"
2. Add more
Now I'm not saying making this a lengthy piece. No, this is meant to be a short blurb that makes you think. If you want to keep the line as is, I'd add maybe one or two more lines just to round it out and make it complete.
Overall, I really like this piece.
Hope you do more!
~Maddie
Thank you! I'm actually hoping to work on and publish a second version where I add another stanza or two. I'll take your advise and work on that final line. I appreciate your feedback
