We are like snowflakes
Not a single one repeats
But who cares about snowflakes
When down comes the sleet?

Which one of us is better?
Hear the screams and cries
From the chains we are unfettered
Nobody cares about the little snowflakes as all of them die.

Who cares about the snowflakes
If you can have something better instead?
So let us raise the stakes
Your life for their heads.

What does the sacrifice
Of a single snowflake mean?
It's loss saved millions of ice
Its corpse melted into a stream.

But was it really worth it in the end?
Should you really have killed it?
It's life had meaning
Yet it died as you saw fit.

So now its journey has been concluded
By a worthless person like you.
Do you feel good about what you've done?
Now the snow can be enjoyed by no one.

Why are all the little snowflakes being slaughtered?
What did they ever do to you?
Melting and writhing into water
Turn them into something new.

All these little snowflakes
Each with their own journey and path.
Did they deserve to be murdered
Carelessly without thought?

But I suppose, in the end,
They are only snowflakes.
And there are billions of snowflakes in the sky.
Why would we care if a single one died?

For a short space of time I remained at the window watching the pallid lightnings that played above Mont Blanc and listening to the rushing of the Arve, which pursued its noise way beneath. The same lulling sounds acted as a lullaby to my too keen sensations; when I placed my head upon my pillow, sleep crept over me; I felt it as it came and blessed the giver of oblivion.
