Enjoyed the company,
Thanks for talking to me.
Enjoyed the critique,
What should I do?
Is it too much?
You know my work,
You don’t know me.
Another acquaintance,
let’s pop the cork.
There’s one who knows me,
One who I thought knew me,
And 1,200-some who didn’t care,
When I fell off the Earth.
So why are you different?
Why should I lower my defense?
Go ahead and call me your friend,
As long as you know it’s all going to end.
Enjoyed the company,
Thanks for talking to me.

Hi! there RossMac
I wanted to say,
I felt the pain in your poem. The feeling of being left alone. The feeling of hesitating in trusting someone again. The feeling of starting again. Hence, the repetition of the cycle.
The lines that really struck me were:
^The 1st line really demands for assurance, assurance to not be left again.
While the next line sounded like a dare implying 'let's see how this will go'.
Lastly, having a negative perspective on your friendship. It felt like you know that it will lead nowhere.
Hence, what if that's what your friends are thinking as well. What if they need assurance? Perhaps, that's something to work on for the both of you. Talk about your differences.
Going on technical, I think it's better to divide it to stanza's. But, nonetheless, the flow was smooth.
Keep writing

Your interpretation is spot on. Its exactly how I meant the poem to be. That was a very satisfying review to read
also, about the formatting, I originally wrote it in Pages and I guess the stanza breaks didn't copy over. I should edit it...anyway thanks for your review
Glad to hear, oh, read that
@Aley sent me this link when I had trouble in formatting How to format your poetry on YWS. Hope that helps
Thank you! I'll be sure to check that out
Hi, I figured I'd give this a review cause I can really relate to this poem and I can feel a lot of the emotion coming through your poem. I don't know if this poem is directed at someone or is just general, but I can really feel a sense of betrayal, especially in the line "One who I thought knew me", and the repetition of speaking of the "one" kind of drives in the fact that this is a very personal betrayal. It's kind of sad how people can just up and leave, or how people drift away, and I think you capture that tragic essence in your poem. All in all, I really liked it and I encourage you to write more.
When I deleted my blog on another site, I had 1200 some followers. None of them asked what happened to my blog, or even what had happened to ME. It really confirmed my reasoning behind deleting it in the first place. It was a clear reminder that people laughed at my funny posts but didn't care if all of a sudden I stopped making them. They didn't care if I suddenly disappeared. It was a realization that hit hard, though it would've hit even harder had I not suspected it would happen all along.
Bonjour, or as they jokingly say in France, "Hello!" My name's Uriah, and I'd like to give an unwarranted review on your poem, "Enjoyed the Company." Particularly because nobody else has yet, and there's extra points rewarded for that. Anywho.
I interpret this as, to paraphrase, "people suck."
A number of people make your acquaintance, only to eventually prove that they have no actual interest in you, and they never did. You were simply a means to an end. "You know my work but you don't know me." Hell, only reason I said I'm even doing this is for extra points.
People are naturally, universally selfish. Every conscious decision is rooted in selfishness, self gain, and self perseverance. There are people who claim to do "selfless acts," but such claims are lies at worst and half-truths at best.
For example, the volunteer firefighter. Some might say, "Well he's a good, selfless person because he isn't even getting paid? How can he possibly be selfish?"
Well, maybe he's been a pyromaniac since age five, and fire really gets him off. Or, maybe he really likes the resulting news interviews and social acceptance. Or, he may just have an agenda against fire after his house burned down and his goldfish died.
Do you see though? Even "good deeds" have selfish connotations. The only true way to preform a "selfless" act is to not know that you've done anything at all.
I believe that the subject is learning this as he meets new people. Eventually, after so many slights and disappointments, he rejects personal or meaningful relationships. He/she simply tells them that he/she "enjoyed the company," and leaves.
Very insightful! I guess when I was writing this it was less about people being selfish and much much more about, for one reason or another, me never being able to establish a personal relationship with anyone (with the exception of one). But hey, its writing. It's open to interpretation and I like your interpretation.
