Surviving 2012

First two pages of a story I'm working on.Not the best in the world but maybe some good writers on here can tell me some things that might help

It was a normal Christmas break Hunter was over and Tye just pulled up. “Hey man what’s up?” I said as he walked up. He replied simply. “Nothing much.”The news on every channel was the same. You could not go to a single channel without hearing something about 2012.On Cartoon network there was an animated short about the 2012 phenomenon. Nickelodeon had cut off broadcasts for a few hours for no reason. All over the world were reports of suicide and major crowds at churches.”These people are so gullible, why do people even believe this?” I said as we went into the living room to relax. Hunter looked at the television in awe. I guess he was surprised that so many people were idiotic enough to believe such nonsense. I cut off the television and went out to the porch, Hunter and Tye soon followed. The sky was oddly reddish but hardly noticeable. As we were simply relaxing the earth shook .We thought that it was just a normal earthquake but records indicated that this certain part of North Carolina was relatively silent. It was over in seconds and the damage was light.”Where did that come from?” Hunter said as we regained our balance. “Yeah I thought we were a peaceful area earthquake wise.” Tye said confused about the small quake. We went into the house where my mom was paying undivided attention to the newscast. The quake was actually the remains of a 10.5 that hit somewhere near Africa. This wasn’t the only odd thing to happen. In west L.A. a forest fire broke out randomly near the city and is now burning it to a crisp. In Antarctica ice shelves were breaking off as if we were in an oven. Other reports said that a solar flare had just erupted and was on a collision Corse with earth.”If that solar flare hits us we are done for.” Hunter said watching the sky become a dark red.”Not exactly.” I said as I remembered the shields that President Obama had said were optional after the nuclear scare in 2011. Luckily I had secretly had shields put on my friends and families homes. The magnetic field was being thrown off, I knew this because auroras usually aren’t found in North Carolina. I finally found the switch and turned on the shields and watched them go up. The sky was so red just looking at it would make you feel as though you were trapped in a whirlpool of tyranny. Before the television shut off due to the earth polarity being thrown to hell and back, the news reporter warned that prophecies were coming true and said something about California going under? The earth gave a violent shake as the solar flare slammed into the earth and more earthquakes erupting as it did so. We hit the floor as the entire house turned a violent red and white color. It felt like we were in an oven even though we were in a controlled climate shield. Then it was over just as quick as it started. I looked out the living room window to see skies of red and a ground of scorched earth and fire. I walked out the door to examine the earth more closely. I looked to the skies to see meteors striking through the sky. Then I saw a half burned man run up to the shield and began pounding away at it. I let him in, he fell to the ground and as he took his last breath said,”2012…” I pushed his corpse outside the shield.”Well it looks like we were wrong…the world just ended.” I said to everyone in my house as I fell to couch.”I can’t believe it was real.” I said pressing my palm against my face. The earth gave a slight tremble.”Well volcanoes might start coming up soon.” Hunter said as he felt the earth shake once more. “The earths core is unstable the solar flare contradicting the magnetic field in such a way has tampered with the core and it is now trying to adjust its self to the changes.” I said as I began to pace through the house. I was worried about my friends and family, what if there shields didn’t go up? I would never be able to forgive myself if they were killed.

The television crackled as it struggled to stay on. In fact all electrical appliances were. Suddenly the entire house began to tremble as I saw the shield evaporate. “Son of a bitch a volcano is erupting right beside the house!” I said as lava began to pour out of the small volcano. “We got to move.” I said as lava made the front porch melt away. We bolted towards the back porch. We flew out of the house and into the car. Since my mom was to shook up I decided to drive. I quickly put the car in reverse and slammed on the gas. I stopped it just before we hit the ditch and put it in drive and floored it. We turned right on my street towards Tyes house to check on his family. “It looks like hell out here.” My mom said as we past the remains of my neighbor’s house. As we past Katie’s house which was still protected by its shield a meteor hit the ground right in front of us. “Shit!” I scream trying to swerve the car away from the meteor in the middle of the road only to nearly be hit by another one. “It’s a meteor shower!” I scream as I jerked the steering wheel once more. However this time a meteor hit the front of the car sending us flipping into the air. “Hold on to your lunches!” I screamed as the car’s front hit the ground causing it to flip a few more times. “Ugh…everyone ok?” I said as the car settled surprisingly not upside down. “Yeah, we’re fine.” I heard Hunter and my mom say. I saw Tye moving to get out so I knew he was ok. I got out of the car to observe the damage. “One thing’s for sure, it isn’t going to drive again.” I said as everyone else got out of the car. “Well my house isn’t that far we can just walk, we have to.” Tye said turning towards his house. We arrived at his house which was still under its shield. “I just got off the phone with my mom, they’re fine there to.” Hunter said as Tye went to ask his mom for the truck.“So what did she say?”I asked as he through something towards me. “I’m guessing that’s a yes.”I said as I realized it was the keys. I got in and cranked it up.”Well off to Dunn we go.”I said as everyone got in. We pulled out of his drive way then out of nowhere an explosion erupted sending the truck straight into the field across from tyes house. “What the hell was that?”Tye said as he looked back.”Robert, floor it!”Tye scream as I looked back to see some sort of mutated beast that had just thrown a tanker truck towards us earlier. “Oh shit!”I said putting the truck in reverse to get us out of the field. As I felt the tires hit asphalt I put it in drive and did a doughnut to get us going in the right direction. I saw the speedometer hit 120 Mph highest speed on that truck. Yet the beast was still right behind us. ”ok beasty let’s play dirty.”I said making a sudden left turn the turned right again. Making the beast slam into building that was built just months ago. “Ok that should give us a little time.”I said as I drove back to the road we were supposed to be on. “Oh no.”I said as I saw a stray atomic missile fly through the sky. I acted quickly. Rewiring some things in the truck while Tye held the wheel. I also added a few things from my defense system backpack. I then flipped a switch on the dash and a military grade shield went up around the truck. I grabbed the wheel and said to everyone. “This ride is about to get bumpy.”Just seconds after those words left my mouth an incredible blast went off nearly blinding us all. Even with the shield the truck was thrown to into the ditch. As quickly as it had happened it was over. I drove the truck out of the ditch with the shield still up to protect us from radiation. We arrived at 421, which had flaming cars all over it. “Well I guess a lot of people thought it was fake too.”I said as I slowed down to avoid hitting any of the cars. I saw what looked like the remains of a space shuttle in the middle of the Campbell university football stadium. “Looks like even space wasn’t safe.”Tye said looking at the mess.

Hi Robert!

I'm Lava and I shall review this now.

First thing I 'd like to tell you is that you should break these long paragraphs. It makes it hard to read and a lot of people may not read it because of that.
Here's how it should look:

It was a normal Christmas break Hunter was over and Tye just pulled up.
“Hey man what’s up?” I said as he walked up.
He replied simply. “Nothing much.”

The news on every channel was the same.
It looks better, doesn't it?

It's a pretty interesting piece. You have potential. :)
So, onto the nit-picking.

On Cartoon Network there was an animated short about the 2012 phenomenon.

Nickelodeon had cut off broadcasts for a few hours for no reason.
This doesn't really imply that it is about 2012.
s.”These people are so gullible, why do peoplethey even believe this?”
Using 'people' twice doesn't sound right.
As we were simply relaxing, the earth shook.

Other reports said that a solar flare had just erupted and was on a collision course with earth.

The sky was so red that just looking at it would make you feel as though you were trapped in a whirlpool of tyranny.
Good sentence. :)
“The earth's core is unstable the solar flare contradicting the magnetic field

I was worried about my friends and family, what if there shields didn’t go up?
I'm pretty positive 'there' should be 'their.'
I said as lava began to pour out of the small volcano.
Well, you could do with more detailing. Maybe how a steam coursed its way before lava pulsed out.
I scream trying to swerve the car away from the meteor in the middle of the road only to nearly be hit by another one. “It’s a meteor shower!
This sounds very much like the movie. I would advise you to not use such cliches.

Overall:

Well, the idea of the start is good, but you need to give more description. You need to show us what's going on and not state them like facts. You should show emotions, gestures etc., that define a character. Also; I found the scientific bits sort of spewed out like a text book. You need to make it more interesting while it's a story.
On grammar, you need to punctuate. You miss a lot of commas, I noticed. I haven't pointed them all here. Here's a little tip : Read your story out loud. The pauses should be shown as commas, semi-colons or full stops.
Pace: It was a little too fast for me. Take time to show us thing and slow down your narrative.

If you have any questions about anything I've said, PM me. I'll be happy to help out.
