The Book Thief is a novel by Markus Zusak. Set in Nazi Germany, it describes a young girl's relationships with her foster parents, the other residents of their neighborhood, and a Jewish fist-fighter who hides in her home during the escalation of World War II. Published in 2005, it has won numerous awards and was listed on the New York Times Children's Bestseller List for over one hundred weeks.

It's a very enjoyable book, I enjoyed it 'till the very end and I hope that you guys will enjoy it as well.
Also, don't be fool by the way it says a Children's Bestseller, it does contain bad language like the B word :]
It made me very happy that I was able to read this before the librarian read it and decide to take it out.
Unless I read like... the 18+ version of that book... oh well :L

Hi Roal,

Mailice here with a short review! :D

I came across your essay by chance and you made me curious about it, because I didn't know that the book still had appeal (even though it's been ten years since you wrote the essay. :D) I read the book about eight or nine years ago and liked it a lot. I also didn't know what exactly to expect when I started reading it.

Well, let's start. At first glance, your essay seems quite short but clear. I think there are still a few places to expand on, but I really like the way you start the essay, briefly mentioning the title of the book, who wrote it and also a bit of a description of what exactly happens there. I think you could have briefly mentioned that it is not only set in Nazi Germany, but mainly in the area around Munich in Bavaria.

The structure loses a little bit of the overview afterwards. I think you could at least start an ending with the prizes it won and then also mention how you liked the book. The way you've written it here at the end, you could do it in a single paragraph and create a good conclusion.

What I think is missing here is a main part. It would be important here that you briefly mention what you particularly liked in the story and also expand on it a bit, like the boy who wants to be like Jesse Owens, or the bombings. Also, it would have been exciting if you had briefly mentioned who is telling the story, since sometimes the Grim Reaper, so to speak, mentions the POV and thus also starts talking about the time that is being dealt with here.

It's hard to give a proper rating here because it still looks very unfinished and you definitely need to add some more points to make it a proper essay.

Have fun writing!
