Dear Book,
Josh called. Not that that means anything. Forget about it, I never mentioned it. Girls would worry about and dwell on the 'hidden meaning' behind this sort of thing. A guy would take it as it is. He called, he asked to meet me at our usual spot, I told him no. Simple.
So why am I still thinking about it?
"Hello?" a hand waved in front of my face. This pulled me out of my reverie and faced with Alex's impatience, I found myself blushing slightly. Another best friend of mine, he was used to me moping around and was my source of male perspective. I'd consulted him frequently about the current predicament, but could sense that I was starting to annoy him with my persistent questioning. So recently, during my guy thinking spout, I had decided to refrain from mentioning the 'J' word.
"You're thinking about him again aren't you?" Alex asked. Although I knew it wasn't really a question.
"No," I lied.
"You are. It's all over your face, I've seen that expression a lot recently," Alex remarked.
"What expression?" I asked, shifting uncomfortably on the grassy verge where we sat.
"This one," Alex scrunched up his face so his mouth set in one firm line and his eyes narrowed. "Like a constipated duck," he said through crumpled cheeks.
"Thanks," I said, hitting him playfully in the arm. He rubbed the area I'd struck.
"No problem."
We went back to silence. Somewhere before, I'd heard it said that when you were comfortable with someone, you could just sit in silence with them and it wouldn't feel weird. It was sort of like that with Alex, but most of the time, that was due to the fact I could tell what he was thinking.
"You know what you should do, don't you?" he continued.
I looked at him. "Huh?"
"Go out and flirt with someone else, right in front of Josh's face and see how he likes that."
"Oh how mature," I shook my head disapprovingly.
Alex shot his archaic grin at him. "I'm serious, it's what I would do. Show him you don't care and that you can find someone better than him. Someone better looking too," Alex winked. I hit him again.
"Josh was good looking," I replied defensively.
Alex looked wryly at me. "Then you have 'interesting' taste. By which I mean shallow," he confirmed. "Josh was one of those pretty boys, you want a real man."
"Since when did you qualify to give such advice?" I bit my lip thoughtfully. Since Alex had been out with nearly every girl in our year.
"I am a master of seduction. In order to snag the good ones, you must know how to speak the language of love," he was going into Wise Owl lecture mode. He had only done this once before. (When he was trying to assure me that Josh was an arse; and provide all the reasons why I was better off without him.)
"French?" I asked.
"No." He looked disappointedly at me. "What's your best pick up line?"
"A what?" I replied.
"Pick up line, you know, how do you attract the opposite sex when you talk?"
I remained silent whilst I considered the question. Truthfully, I didn't attract them. At least not with my conversational skills.
"I don't use pick up lines." And I didn't know any girl who did. Must be a guy thing.
"Well you should. Might improve your fortunes. Okay, so say I wanted to chat you up right now, theoretically," he added, holding a hand up in front of my face to enforce his point.
"Of course," I nodded.
"I would say something like: hey, there's something wrong with my phone." He paused. I looked at him expectantly. Was this supposed to wow me? I didn't get it. Alex rolled his eyes as I stayed silent.
"You're supposed to bat your eyelids and say 'oh really'," I had never heard Alex use a 'girl' voice before. Imagine a whoopee cushion talking and you've got it.
"Sorry," I cleared my throat. "Oh really?"
"Much better, so yeah, it doesn't have your number in it," he finished.
Now I'm not sure whether it was the gap in his delivery or me just being an idiot but I still didn't understand. "Oh, I give in. You are a lost cause, I give in," he threw his hands in the air somewhat dramatically and I laughed at him.
"That was the worst pickup line I've ever heard. You didn't even compliment me!" I objected.
"Guys don't do compliments unless there's something in it for them," Alex corrected me.
"I don't get this!"
"Well, if a guy knows he's going to get something by saying, oh I don't know, your tits look nice, then he will. But otherwise, what's the point?" he shrugged.
Words were beyond me at this point. "How could any guy possibly think 'your tits look nice' is a good compliment? It's just pervy. If I said the outline of your cock looks nice, how would that make you feel?" I demanded.
Alex smiled at me before replying.
"Very pleased, because it's the most accurate thing a girl has said to me in months."

Heys, Willow C. here. I'd say something clever, but I don't really feel like it.
Anywho, I DID like this entry. Alex was very believeable. Of course it's totally obvious where you're going with his character and if he ends up going out with Evie I will both vomit and cry like a little girl. And Also with the whole "make him jealous thing" I instinctivly went "Oh god no" when I heard that. WAY obvious that she'll make a fool of herself, sed Aheu (but alas) you must let a characters heart get broken sometimes.
Also, very true on the whole Pick-up line thing. NO GIRL really thinks they are clever. I mean yeah, she'll laugh and say "that was funny" but only because he did not realize how big a fool he made of himself. If she says a pick-up line to another guy I thnk he will seriously think she's a freak. Of course I must also ask the question of how she had never heard of a pick-up line before. Seems like pretty common knowlege especially for someone (and I'm only assuming becasue her best friend is Jenny) who is a popular. She should have really known already and Alex really should have known that girls don't use pick-up lines. To quote a dinsey movie "But how will I get him to kiss me (paraphrase)...Body language." (Hey, isn't it funny how guys ask out girls and rarely the other way around?)
See ya,
~Willow C.
Ummm. I really like this, but it shouldn't it be rated 16+ for language?
Oh WOW, I loved it! Its so asdjasasffdsggj awesome! write more more more!!!
I am really impressed with the trilogy you have created. I am so looking forward to the next entry. I love the way you have introduced Alex's character into the story. It makes Evie sound so realistic - and I love realistic characters. I can't really fault this piece, couldn't find any typos or anything.

Just make sure the next entry goes somewhere interesting, that Evie has something interesting or devastating happen to her, as the other reviewers have said. She can't have too simple a life for too long. LOL.
Otherwise, keep writing.

Lol you just reviewed your own work.
Again, brilliant! I honestly can't find any faults with this. Several parts are really funny, and I love the way the whole thing is so realistic, like an real person is speaking rather than a fictional character. Well done!!
Thanks again for the feedback. Really grateful for the comments.

No problem!
Hi there!
So I just finished reviewing the second chapter of this and I'm not sure which review you'll read first--that one or this one--so I'll repeat a small part of what I said.
In this chapter I was looking for some more realistic word choice. Evie is after all a high school girl. The word choice and dialogue should portray that.
And that is exactly what I found *insert applause* starting with this:
I feel like this is exactly how a girl would describe her feelings about her ex. Seeing as I'm still good friends with all my exes (I think I'm doing it wrong XD ) I cannot say that I can relate to how Evie is feeling. But if I were a lovesick teenager, I'd describe my ex that way. It's like she doesn't want to mention him--which she doesn't--so she just refers to him as "the J-word" Quite clever, really.
There's a bunch more examples in this chapter that strike me as realistic, but I'm not going to point them all out. I just wanted to highlight one because I was proud of you for writing it
So onto a slightly negative note (not really, but just something small I want to point out). This chapter ends a bit abruptly. It's like Alex and Evie are having this conversation and then all of the sudden the chapter is over. Maybe add in some transition into the story to end the chapter. Just something I noticed.
Just a few small nitpicks:
Spoiler
I think you mean 'me' instead of 'him'.
This isn't a complete sentence. I'd suggest connecting it to the previous sentence or adding something at the end of the sentence to fix it. Although now that I think about it, it might be okay because this is written as a journal--book--entry and Evie could just write that way. But either way I think it should definitely be a complete sentence. You could say something like "Since Alex had been out with nearly every girl in our year, I wasn't going to be quick to take his advice." Just something simple like that.
Hope to see the next chapter up soon! I really enjoy this story.
Keep writing!

I just read through this, and then went back and checked the rating. Um...I really think that should have been higher. That was WAY too suggestive for the rating it got. I think you should have at least given it the 16+, or if you really wanted to be on the safe gone with 18+ and Mature content [now, that's probably overkill]. But 12+ is just a little too loose for me.
Hope that helps. Better safe than sorry, you know? After all, this is the YOUNG writers society, and we do have some really young younglings.
I personally think 12 is an adequate rating; I have read other teen books rated at 12 in book catalogues that have much more graphic descriptions, though I guess it depends on the reader's taste and expectations. The Curious Incident of The Dog in the Night-Time is rated at ages 12 plus, yet it has a lot of swearing and 'adult' references, and also a bit of violence if you count the dog being stabbed.
well like I said 12's too loose for me. if you feel that's appropriate, then that's your decision. And PS I don't think it's the greatest idea to judge what rating you give your own work based on others. Rate what you feel it deserves based on your own standards. But again that's just my opinion.
Just my input here, I'm 16 and was pretty uncomfortable reading it. If you're writing about high schoolers and using suggestive themes in it... Then no 12 year old should read it without being appropriately warned.
I LOVE IT... Let me know when you post the next one!
Her friend is horrible, he reminds me of my buddies because if you don't know them, you'd think they were grose and creepy...and they are, but you know.
Great job!
I know exactly. Thanks for the comments.

Haha, you're welcome.
Hey there
So yeah, if you aren't leading into or out of a dialogue tag then it should be a period instead of a comma.
I like Alex, you developed his character well. Again though you should have rating for the slight sexual suggestions. I like the "dear book" bit, it's creative, a cute little signature of these pieces. Um right now you're just sort of jumping everywhere and there are completely different characters in each of the entries so it's okay as long as you link them up in the next couple of entries. If you were to keep introducing new characters and events without making a plot or tying it all together then that'd get confusing. This entry for me was just okay. Not bad not great, it just has to start moving somewhere. The first one was my favorite.
Tell me when you post the next part, I'm interested in where it's headed.
Thanks. I know I have gone a bit manic with this, so I am going to take a bit of a break from this project, whilst I think about what I am going to do with it. Thanks for taking the time to review it for me and I will let you know when I've written the next piece. xx
Hello Ink. Jon here.
This was pretty good though it didn't make as much sense as before.
Okay the first chapter was a good intro.
The secound was not as good but it still was good.
This is just a little to much in one day and if you keep on posting chapters like this I or other reader will never have time to read it all.
I don't know what to say I would put something in your next chapter to envelope your reader so that they don't get bored not saying I am getting board its just less interesting.
Keep writing and good luck.
~Jonathan~
Thanks for reading and being honest. I think I will slow it down a bit, I know I have been a bit manic with my entries today. Might put this project on the backburner for a little while.
Don't make it to far back though like once a week or once a day.
Yeah. I'm new at this, I need a balance. How often do you write new stuff then?
Whenever I have a mined to.
My main problem is keeping onto stuff.
Like novels.
You can find a bunch of ones I never finished in my protofilio.
Ok thanks. I will take a look, maybe write some reviews too.
