The sun streams in softly between the curtains and falls on my eyes, waking me from the short comfort of sleep. When I turn to my side, I see she is still asleep on the couch, safe and warm. Her dreams are totally oblivious to my personal war.
It’s freezing, but seeing her so bundled up, and feeling better, makes me want to pretend everything is okay; as if everything can be how it was back in the summer time.
I know I need to get up, and leave before she wakes. But what I have to do…isn’t easy. She has no idea of my new founded responsibility, that rests heavily on my shoulders. A responsibility she still thinks belongs to her.
I let out a long hard sigh; seeing my breath. After about five minutes I finally sit up. I fold my blanket, grab my shotgun and just before I head out I say goodbye to her. A part of me wishes she was awake, but I don’t want her to cry, I never want to see her cry ever again. I’ve decided to leave without a note. Besides, what would it say? “I’ve decided to sacrifice my soul so you don’t have to, because I think you are awesome and sweet, and the one thing in the world that actually meant something to me…don’t forget to feed the cat? Sincerely Jake. P.S. I’m probably dead by the time you read this note.”
As I open the door, the still air is like a knife to my lungs. There isn’t any snow, only a cold sun. Its rays glistening on the tops of the billions of trees. I make sure to take a good long look at all the things I should have noticed before this small moment.
I want to take one last look at her, but before I can turn my head…I stop. Without another thought I look dead straight. “I will see you again, soon.” I take a step forward, and as I do, the door closes softly behind me.

Hello!
However, for the reader to feel more connected to your characters and their relationship I think what you need is more backstory. I don't know if this is just the start of a longer piece, (if it is I think it's a great idea to start in the middle of the plot and then go back to how it got to that moment) but if it's not then I would really add the past and develop your characters more in order to get the emotion across and make your story more effective.
Cute short story, you've put so much feeling in such a short piece and for that I applaude you
Here are some nitpicks:
Take out the comma in between "curtains" and "and"
I really like this imagery... but I think you should change the "of" to "to"
I think you could improve this sentence. I like your idea but maybe rephrase it. SOmeting like "She has no idea of the new founded responsibility that has been placed upon my shoulders."
or "She has no idea of my new founded responsibility heaving down on my shoulders."
I think the problem is that you have too many words in there.
This sentence doesn't really make sense to me. What do you mean by "Everything is summer"? It reminds you of that season or something that happened during a certain summer...? And what you put after the three dots just doesn't connect to the rest of the sentence.
Nice similie. I would take out the "all".
Use the itallic font instead of the caps lock.
Apart from those suggestions I really liked this story and I want to find out more!
Bye!
Wow, you are REALLY helpful!! thank you so much for the tips!
I don't have very much experience on this site, do you think I should make the changes and publish it on the site?
I actually didn't think about a bigger story, I just kind of threw it together with the emotions I was feeling. Maybe I'll have a prequel to this short story or something...never thought of doing that.
he he...I'm actually known for doing too many commas.
Thanks so so so much for taking the time! I really appreciate it!!
Aw no problem! I really enjoyed it

wow, thanks again!!!
Hi
Is he going to kill someone (or something)? That's what I think is going to happen.
I'm a huge fan of this song, and I think your story did it justice. It was very good. Self-sacrificing love is one of my favorite things to read/write about. It's such a pure emotion, and you captured that.
This makes me really want to know the rest of the story...
Thanks so much! I'm considering writing a short story prequel, something I've never done...does anyone do that?
I really like that song too!!
Thank you very much! I'll have to read some of your stuff.
I've never really seen anybody do that, but it sounds cool to me
go for it!
