Prologue
Soul mate. The dictionary definition of this word is; a person with whom you have a strong affinity, shared values and tastes, and often a romantic bond. That doesn’t sound like, ‘we can’t live without each other, we’re that crazy in love’ to me. It sounds pretty tame. But what if it really wasn’t?
What if every single person was truly only meant to be with one other? A soul mate. A life partner. Now it sounds like all love songs and roses, right? The only problem is that you have to find them first. You have to find that one soul out of six billion which, when you think about it, will turn out to be a very rare event.
Some spend their whole lives believing that if they search hard enough, they will find the one for them. There are some epic love stories made this way but mostly there is only disappointment and heartbreak. Others believe that it’s all a big romantic farce created by those who believe there is that perfect partner out there somewhere. They find their own many connections, have dates and even go on to marry and have children with the person they themselves have chosen.
So what happens if you stumble across that soul mate, the one, when you’ve already promised your heart to another?

I like this because it draws readers in like a good prologue should. You kind of tell me what's going to happen but I still want to read on anyway, it's a classic scenario so I'd like to see your take on it. No characters have actually been introduced yet so I kind of want to read more so I can meet them, these soulmates. I know you have lots of work up on here but I think you should keep writing and see where the idea takes you, it could be a Romeo and Juliet style tragedy or there could be a fairytale-ish happily-ever-after.
The title sounds quite dark but at the moment I'm failing to see where it's coming from. This is another reason I'd love to see how the story plays out.
Good on you for posting all these ideas, if I wasn't trying to focus on just one I might have attempted something similar. I'd probably get confused with all the threads of stories to be honest. I've been writing since I was little and that was what put me off, I could never get anything straight in my head but each of your pieces is just as good as another.
Keep going!
PS. Really looking out for reviews right now!!
I liked your last piece so I might just continue reviewing your stuff for a while
I love this idea! Especially in your first paragraph when you give the definition (which actually does sound pretty tame) and then make the reader think about what he/she really thinks when seeing "soul mate." It's a really good way to open the piece and immediately makes me think you're going to go to great places with a new kind of soul mate love story.
That could definitely be an issue
seven billion now! :/
I think you should italicize this just for dramatic affect.
It's good. Again, you leave me wanting to know more about this story. You seem to be good at that, which is a fantastic trait for any writer to have. It's a good point to, the debate about soul mates and all that jazz. Good writing. Now off to review a third piece of yours!
Girl, this sounds fantastic. I mean, it's really the main cause of cheating right? We think we've found the one but we're already stuck with someone else. It's crazy and still such a common occurrence in today's society. I love it and am really excited to meet the characters in this story. You should pursue this, and with your writing abilities this could potentially turn out to be a really good love story. Let me know when you follow through with this! You know, I'm a huge mush for this sort of thing.
Hi there!
I like the idea of this novel. It's interesting how you started out with the definition of the word 'soulmate' and then dove into the possibility that a soulmate doesn't exist. It's nice that you're already getting us thinking. Now we're reading this wondering if your main character is one who believes in soulmates or not.
There is just one thing I want to point out that could be fixed. In the second sentence you give the definition of a soulmate, but you used a semi-colon. You should've used a colon instead. Just the little grammar nazi coming out in me.
I can't wait to see where this story goes. Please let me know when the first chapter is out!
Keep writing!

Hello, I'm Kay. It's nice to meet someone who writes like me-I'm fond of italicizing little sections like this and sticking them in front of my first chapter. However, what I usually do is put it from the POV of my main character, or if I'm writing in third person mention their name. Like this:
It makes it more personal and less abstract, while still having that dreamy, distant, not here-and-now feel to it. I hope this was helpful.
I'm just going to start off by saying that I quite liked the ending. You left a cliffhanger which gave a hint to what the rest of the story was about, which was good because you didn't give everything away. Though I feel like you've kind of rushed this prologue, you've taken the basic concept of soul mates and written what you think about it. You should take your time and think about it a bit more, in my opinion. There is a slight problem though; we don't get introduced to any characters. Your prologue sounds more like a synopsis of the book, not so much a prologue. This also sounds more like a thought on love/soul mates, it sounds like you've been asked to write what you think about it and that's exactly what you've done, kind of like you written it for the sake of writing it, not because it has to do with the story.
You know what. I am going to take my sweet vengance on you. I was meant to be alseep ages ago because the holidays just ended and I have shcool tommorow and I am going to die because I was meant to be doing work all day but I was reviewing instead so I'm going out with a bang before I go to sleep so that when you pass me I will leave this one incredibly evil review in my wake.
Firstly romance sucks. That's my opinion. Whenever people kiss in movies I wantto jump into the tv and stab them.
Yes. I am a psycho.
Ok on to your thingy. It doesn't seem like a prolouge to me. This seems more like the introduction to an essay. Yur English teacher said to write an opinion piece eassay and you started yours here it is.
I just realized I can't be super evil because I am on my iPod and I can't copy and paste everything at my whim and I am also about to fall sleep.
Tommorow.
Tommorow.
I will extract my vengance up you and grace you with A REVIEW OF UNTIMATE EVIL. brace yourself.
Untill we meet againn
Hi Olive! Here to review your prologue
Okay, so I'm not really going to go too into depth with this as these are only initial ideas right? I'll start off with the stuff I liked. Firstly, the ending is really good and sort of leaves a cliff-hanger and at the same time reveals an inkling of what the rest of the story is going to be about which is good- as it doesn't give away too much. Now, I've read a few stories on the topic of soul mates, and as long as you play your cards right, I'm sure this will turn into a fabulous story.
In terms of critiques, I'll start off with a few specifics.
Tenses!
I'd suggest with this firstly, getting rid of the 'right?' so that there isn't another question and then joining the two sentences up. I think this will help with the flow a bit and look better.
Seven billion
There's not really much to comment on as there's not that much plot info and no characters introduced. It's definitely important with prologues not to give everything away, however some info on which characters are in it would be nice. It could be something like '[character name] didn't believe there was such a thing as soul-mates...etc', so that we're introduced to somebody and know what to expect for the first chapter. You might also want to give a bit of background info on them. Basically, with prologues you could give both character info and plot info, but right now there's neither, so I'd say choose something- even if it's explaining the setting. Although that may sound a bit boring, it still reveals more about the story and I think that's what's needed here.
Soul mates is quite a hard thing to talk about and I like what you've done here to talk about them, but perhaps you could mention even more. I liked how you've almost given a balanced argument on it, but I dislike how it says 'some do this' and 'others do that', because does the world simply split up into two types of people, those who believe in soul mates and those who don't? Perhaps in your story this s the case, but for now maybe instead you could not be too specific and write about soul mates in general.
All in all, this is an intriguing prologue with a good ending. I like the idea of soul mates in this, and is that going to be a running theme in the whole story, or what the whole plot is based on? I hope the former because it might get a bit boring otherwise. I'd like to see a bit more to this prologue, whether it's descriptions of the setting, characters, even some plot info- just so it's not a mini-essay about soul mates and more of a story. Well, I hope this review helped. PM me with any questions you have or if you'd like anything else to be reviewed.
Just keep writing!

Hey! Okay, so I will openly tell you that I am very picky when it comes to romance, because it can be done very well, or very...not. And more often than not, things fall into the "mediocre" category when it comes to this genre.
I think there could be potential in this, but it seems as though you're trying too hard to lay out a foundational idea. You have plenty of time to develop what you're trying to say (after all, you have thousands of words to say it), so give it that time to unfurl. It's good to keep your readers interested, so don't summarize. Generally, prologues are not needed at all, and I might suggest that you just do away with it completely. You don't say anything particularly philosophical or memorable, and these ideas can develop in a more insightful way if you just have the restraint to elude to them as the novel continues.
So, to keep it short and sweet: patience.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Keep writing, and best wishes. xxx
I can't wait to read Chapter 1.
I really liked reading this! Great work.
The story has potental, I'll give you that. The only problem I have with it is the fact that we don't get introduced to any of the characters. This intro sounded more like the back or synopsis of the book rather than the prologue. The prologue of the book should introduce us to least one character, if not more and give us the setup of the plot. I like your idea and I would love to read more!
This is a good point! I've never done a prologue without a character before. I could maybe put a small profiling at the end introducing who is actually find out what they would do.
Well, this sounds very interesting. There wasn't any errors from what I can see, and it kept me reading from the start. But remember that if you do continue this into a chapter deal, that you have to give it a plot/ theme outside of the love triangle. It'd get repetitive if it was only about how he/she loves two different people and she's/he's like, "Oh my gawsh I can't decide... What do I do? Ahh!"

The readers would get bored if that's all your writing about. I hate to make a reference to Twilight, but I would say the Volturi wanting to kill them and all that junk became a trial for them, making it more interesting to read/ watch. Just add something outside of the love triangle, and if you have trouble with this then picture the characters that you are planning to do; where do they live, are they working, do they go to school, are they a secret agent sent from Russia coming to destroy all fast food chains, etc.
Keep up the awesome work and send me the link of the first chapter!
