Chapter 2
I sat on my bed, just sketching random doodles that didn't even look like what they were supposed to be. I drew what I imagined school to be like, since I never went there before. Lanna said she used to go, but dropped out when she got into ninth grade. I always would ask her why she did because she seemed to love it.
"I did it for my baby brother and only my baby brother." She would say. She even started dating that jackass to get decent money and not have to go to work.
"HEY KID!!!! GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE!!!!" I heard Daniel shout. I signed and abandoned my drawings. I walked down the stairs and answered his call.
"Yes?" I groaned. He glared at me.
"What did you just say to me?" He growled in a menacing tone.
"N-nothing…" I stuttered. He got into my face and picked me up by the collar.
"I better not catch you sayin' anything like that otherwise you're gonna get a major ass whooping!" He spat. I nodded. He sat back down on the couch. "Now, get me the damn remote!" I snatched the remote off the coffee table and handed it to him. The door opened and Lanna stepped into the room, the package of beer in her dainty little hands.
"Did I miss something…?" She asked. Daniel glared at me.
"No… nothing happened." I lied. She smiled.
"Good! It's nice to know my two boys are getting along!" She chirped. She went to go put the beers in the freezer and as she did so we both glared at each other with burning rage in our eyes.

Your comment was posted, but it wasn’t long enough to count as a review. Reviews need about four complete sentences (at least 250 characters). Try writing another review that explains your thoughts in more detail — the author will appreciate it, and you’ll earn points for it.
Hi, steampowered here for a review!
I thought this chapter was quite short, but it was a manageable length for me to read and review, so it's not a criticism. However you may want to consider fleshing out the chapter later (adding more description, character thoughts etc.) as it's quite fast paced and I think you could really make the most of what you've got here. Take this paragraph for instance:
Firstly, I thought I'd point out that you wrote "whooping" when you probably meant "whopping." Also, you could probably do with a new paragraph after "get me the damn remote!"
Now, on to the "fleshing it out" - what is Z's relationship with Daniel? Is Z afraid of him, or does he simply loathe him? You can really communicate it through the way the characters interact, and it would add more to the story (I feel like you've really got something here, but it seems like a framework at the moment) "I nodded" tells the reader very little. Is Z scared, is he shaken, is he defiant, is he angry? Does he slink meekly away? Does he stare Daniel down? Does he nod but clench his fists?
How does Daniel sit back down on the couch? Does he throw himself angrily into it, muttering to himself and shooting Z murderous looks? Does he slump onto the couch and glare at the blank TV screen? "Sit" doesn't help the reader to picture exactly how Daniel sits.
As Roundsquare said (and I think I mentioned in the previous chapter) you need to remember to capitalise the tags (although Roundsquare explains it more succinctly than I do) So "Did I miss something...?" She asked, isn't two sentences - it should be, "Did I miss something...?" she asked. Also, if there's an "asked", "said" etc., just remember to put a comma not a full stop / period after the speech.
A few minor points:
"I always would" doesn't feel quite right. How about "I would always?" Or "I always asked her why she did..."
Shouldn't that be "I sighed?"
I had a strange image of Daniel climbing into Z's face here! I know what you meant, but wouldn't "He pushed his face into mine" be a better way of wording it?
One more point was the unnecessary exclamation marks in Daniel's speech, when he's shouting to Z up the stairs (they have stairs? I thought it was a tiny apartment... still, never mind) You really only need one exclamation mark after each sentence - the reader's imagination will do the rest. Maybe if you really wanted to convey how loud Daniel is, you could have him roar, or bellow? (It would also have the bonus of likening him to a wild animal, which I think could be effective)
I did like Z's character and the way in which you developed it. The fact he likes drawing really ties in with what we already know about him (wistful and quiet) and I had a little more respect for Lanna, with the sacrifices she has made and how she's trying to look out for Z. I'm really enjoying reading this, and hopefully this review was helpful.
I blame auto correct for some mistakes. And, the reason I write things that are kinda weird is because I draw inperation from anime and sometimes how they translate it is a bit off and I kinda grew into the habit of writing like that.
Thanks for the review!
This is a very short chapter, and I didn't really understand what was going on. As for writing itself, I saw no spelling mistakes or typos. However I noticed that you always capitalize your tags. Remember that if there is a 'said', 'asked', or other kind of verb that tells us that this dialogue is said by this person, then the tag is not capitalized (unless it's a name), also when a dialogue tag follows a comma, it shouldn't be capitalized. Keep writing, practice makes perfect.
Thank you! But, the reason you didn't understand was that this is the second chapter.
