Does it matter what a grade says?
Does that change the person?
Their character?
Does it change how smart they are?
No, it doesn’t.
It may mean,
That they’ve given up the will to try,
That they don’t care,
Maybe they want to prove a point.
Maybe they want to be the success story.
Maybe they want to prove you wrong.
A piece of paper,
Does not control you.
A simple letter,
Does not accumulate,
To you,
Or your life.
What you will be,
What you are now.
Is up to you,
And only you.

Hey it's mongoose,
This is so cool, it s too true, grades are all a fuss over nothing. People can leave school with nothing and get a low paid job, or own a bricklaying company and earn thousands. This poem explains a very valid point and for that its brilliant. The only thing that worried me was
"Does not accumulate,
To you,"
to me that didn't make much sense, or have I read it wrong? I've probably read it wrong, but I had to read it twice before moving on. Other than that I loved it, the shorts lines really stood out and the use of "you" really makes you think about what you're reading.
Thanks for posting!
Wow...this is amazing.
And well said.
I really love your concept! It's remarkable. Though the rhyming words need a little bit more practice..but overall, this was VERY good
Keep it up!
The Shauzer here reviewing,
I'm sorry but I didn't particularly like this poem. I too am a student, I get decent grades but yes, everybody still nags about them. Study, study, study, blah blah blah. But I felt like the words of this poem were just strung together, and seriously, I feel like you're way too serious about the whole issue. The poem felt too strong to be about grades, the way you said
"A piece of paper,
Does not control you.
A simple letter,
Does not accumulate,
To You,
Or your life."
It's just one person's opinion, but I think the poem was way too heavy, and some of the lines didn't quite go together. You should've tried to add a humerous element in there, that would have suited the subject. But I still think you're a good writer, you look like you have potential and I don't want to put the poem down too much. Just be a bit more light-hearted and I think I'd like it much more.
Hola NerdFighter!
Okay, so today I had absolutely no motivation to review, as today was supposed to be my lazy day, but alas, I came upon this poem.
I'm a straight A student but recently my grades have been falling down to B's, and last year to C's one time. This poem really spoke to me, though. Just because I got the first C I've ever had in my whole life doesn't change the fact that I'm as smart as I am. And it kinda depends on the teacher, too. With some, you can get an easy A, with others, you have to work hard...
...and now I'm ranting. Sorry.
I really don't know if I'm just crazy, but I read it with a little choppiness, so to me it sounded...stronger. Like, firmer. My mind isn't helping me find the right word. -_- But anyways, I was really able to relate to this and I'm sure many others can too, which made this particularly enjoyable.
I feel like a whole bunch of teens and kids should join together in protest and recite/sing/or something to teachers and parents and other adults....
Howdy!

I like this poem, it speaks to me. While I'm a rather good student, in the sense that I do well enough at school, I hate it when teachers and parents go on about grades, as if they determine what we do in life and how successful we are.
So good job!
It isn't to complicated, and it isn't an extremely heartfelt nor emotional. But I was able to get a real sense of the message and what you wanted to say.
And I think it's a great message. You conveyed it wonderful and I'm sure the majority of teens will be able to relate to it.
One of the things I liked the most was the simpleness of it all, you didn't faff around with langauge, you got to the point and used the language you did well. You didn't try to make it fancy or packed with metaphors and symbolism because you didn't need to in order to get your message across.
Basically it is a wonderful poem and I have really nothing to critisice about it. Bravo!!
Keep writing and welcome to YWS.

Thank you and I just have to say, I love the fact that you just said Howdy, cause I do too, all the time.
Hello there NerdFighter! I really found you poem enjoyable.

I liked that you started off with rhetorical questions then as the poem went you you tried to answer them. Your subject matter was also very unique and relatable. My favroite line has to be 'Maybe they want to prove you wrong.'
This line jumped out to me as many people tend to judge you on what grades you got. I'm sure many people - such as myself - with find that this poem hits very close to home and I believe that is why people will love it. Great work.
I also loved your ending lines 'Is up to you,
And only you.' There was a typo there I think you meant 'It's'. Other than that I thought the poem worked very well and the words ran very smoothly. Awesome job. Keep up the amazing work!
Hi NerdFighter1,DK with a quick review on your poem.
What I liked about the poem is the perfection in rhythm. I'm comfortable when declamation the poem. Secondly, it is true. You give an honest opinion about it . I mean, you're not pleased with the grade for some reason because people should not be judged on grades and some pride in it.
Overall, good poem! I really impressed with your poem.Keep writing and reviewing in YWS
Kudos,cheers.
p/s:Welcome to YWS.
That was amazing, and exactly how I see grades! pointless and doesn't define the person and the life they plan on living! great job!!
I would like to start by saying that this is one of the most beautiful poems I have ever read. It is so elegant how each line is so short and direct, but this makes it very halting at the end of some lines and kind of breaks the rhythm. Although you might have done that intentionally because it draws your attention to it.
I also love the idea of the poem, that a grade does not make you what you are and I totally agree with you. I can't wait to read more of your work, keep it up!
