It was a normal autumn day for New York, the sun was shining with quite a few clouds in the sky, there was a cold wind and where ever there were trees their multi-coloured leaves were flying about on the ground. My name is Jessica but, all my friends call me Jesse. I am an average looking, average height, average red hair, blue eyes and a fake tan. I am not even close to being as beautiful as my mom. If you don’t know my mom well then you must be from Canada. My mom is the famous actress and model Emma Stone. Yup, that’s right my mom is Emma Stone! She’s not the greatest mom, she’s barely ever around but, I’ve learned not to care anymore. She is always off shooting a movie or on the runway. When she is I get our gigantic mansion all to myself!  If you’re wondering who my dad is, don’t ask me, I’ve never met him and my mom never talks about him. Anyways, I am in grade 10 and I go to a public school, so I can be with all my friends, and nobody knows who I am so I’m treated like a normal person, it is nice. Today my mom is finally coming home and is going to be home all weekend! This is going to be the longest time she’s ever spent with me, and this day couldn’t go any slower! It feels as if it’s been three hours but it’s only been five minutes since the first bell has rung. I’ve got a whole six hours before I get to see my mom!

The agonizingly slow school day is over. I get to go home now and spend a relaxing evening with my mom! By the time I’ve walked home it’s an hour later and when I get to my house my mom’s car is in the drive way but the driver’s side is open and so is the front door. Last time I checked my mom never did this. I also noticed a pair of skid marks beside the driveway and that my mom’s keys were lying in the grass. This was really not what I expected to see when I imagined our reunion. I went up to the door and saw that someone had used brute force to open it not keys like mom would’ve used. I kicked the door open the rest of the way and saw that our house had been completely destroyed. I knew my mom was famous but I never believed that someone would actually break into our house! I was thinking maybe my mom hidden somewhere, so I called her cell and I hear it ringing outside, so I follow the rings and there is her phone in the car but, she isn’t there. I am so freaked out! I’m about to phone the cops when MY phone starts ringing, I have no idea whose number this is but, then I think about all the shows I’ve seen where people are kidnapped, so I answer it. A man with a weird voice says, “We have your mother, Emma Stone, Jesse, If you want to see her again alive, you will NOT go to the cops  and you will have three million dollars with you in 36 hours or your mother dies. I will phone again with instructions on where to put the money. Again if you want to see her alive you will have three million dollars and you will NOT go to the cops.” After hearing this I freak out. I know they told me no cops but, I can’t do this alone. The next thing I know my cell is up to my ear and on the other end of the line is the FBI. I tell them that I’m Emma Stones daughter and that she’s been kidnapped. In the next five minutes the FBI is outside my house, and it has officially been turned into a crime scene. They’re dusting everything for finger prints, but all they find are mine and my moms. There were no witnesses because everyone on our block was at work. This is going to be a very hard case for the FBI. I’m scared as hell! They said they would kill my mom if I got the cops involved, what if she’s already dead? What if they know I called the FBI?

I have no idea why but the FBI left me all alone in my house. The stupid idiots! All of a sudden my phone starts ringing, it scared the shit out of me and I jumped about five inches into the air. I look at my cell and again it’s an unknown number. I’m about to ignore it when I think it could be my mom’s kidnappers. I answer the phone and I hear, “36.1084375, -115. 1984889.” Not thinking I start writing the numbers out, I have no idea what they mean and I missed the first few numbers while finding a pen and paper, luckily the numbers repeated, “36.1084375, -115. 1984889.” As soon as the call ended I called the FBI. They got their mathematician to look at the numbers and she figured out that the numbers are a gps coordinate of an abandoned warehouse in New Jersey.

An hour and a half later the FBI phones me and tells me they found the warehouse, but that I wouldn’t like what they had found. I’m in New Jersey with the FBI now and there on the warehouse floor is my mom with a bullet through her head, executioner style. On the wall next to her is a not spray painted red saying, “We no everything bitch! We no u wnt 2 the cops, we kpt our promise, ur moms now dead. U keep urs and give us the 3 million. Or we will get u!” The FBI thinking that the “Or we will get u!” was a joke said, “Oh, no! Don’t give them the money they can’t get you when we’re looking after you!” Well I don’t think I can trust the FBI because they’ve done a pretty shitty job with this case and looking after me. All of a sudden I here gun shots out side, and all the agents around me are down. Four guys jump out of a black Jaguar carrying ak47’s. They were all wearing black ski masks and they shot down the agents that they hadn’t gotten with their drive by. They hadn’t even gotten a scratch on their beautiful Jaguar! These guys were amazing if you forget the killing, guns, and kidnapping. When one of the guys told me to get into the car, I didn’t know what else to do so I did, and I was surprised at how young he sounded and how strong his Russian accent was. If he wasn’t one of my kidnappers I would have liked him. The four of them spoke Russian but the young one was the only one who could speak English. While the other three were speaking to each other in Russian the young guy beside me started talking to me saying, “I am very sorry; I didn’t want to do this. These men made me they said they would kill me if I didn’t use my English to help them. My name is English name is Danny. These men are friends of my brother. They are NOT my friends. Again I am very sorry Jesse.” Then he shut up and didn’t talk the rest of the ride.

The ride took hours but my guess is that they were driving around in circles to disorientate me. I tried to talk to Danny again but he was ignoring me. They had taken off their ski masks off and holy shit was Danny ever HOT! And so were the other guys! What luck being kidnapped by hot Russian guys!  Finally the car stopped and one of the Russian guys put a blindfolded me and everyone including Danny had put their ski masks back on. The Russian guys are talking in Russian and the next thing I know Danny is telling me to sit down or he’ll make me. He also handcuffs my hands behind the chair. They are now talking all in Russian, I can’t see a thing because I’m still blindfolded and hand cuffed to a chair. I am officially super freaked out!

It’s quiet, there is no sound of guys speaking Russian and there is only one pair of footsteps I can hear and they are coming closer. My heart starts beating faster and I can barely breath I am so freaked out. All of a sudden there is a blinding bright light, I can see again! I am in a big warehouse, surprise, surprise. In front of me is Danny with the goofiest smile ever! He has black hair that’s short and spiky with one long piece covering his left eye, he has the brightest blue eyes I have ever seen, and he was probably six feet two inches, he was tall AND hot, great combo!  He says, “Nobodies here right now they left to see if the cops found the dead agents. They’ll be back soon though. I am sorry in advance for the things I will say and do; I do not want to do them because you are by far the most beautiful girl I have ever met! And also I’m not that kind of guy I don’t like violence, but they will kill me if I don’t. I also want you to know I like you and that I didn’t kill your mom, Anton did.” I was stunned by what he said no guy has ever called me beautiful or told me that they like me. I reply, “Danny don’t worry about it, you do what you have to do to survive, I understand that. Thank you for apologizing though. Nobody has ever called me beautiful before, thank you! I like you too Danny! And I am very glad you are not a murderer!” The next thing I know Danny’s lips are on mine and he’s kissing me and I’m kissing back.  Danny pulls back and I hear what he hears, the other three guys are back. He puts the blindfold back on and picks up his ak47 and starts pacing in front of me. If I ever get away I hope Danny is with me. Someone comes up to me and says in Russian “Hello Darling! Hahaha!” whoever said it has terrible breath and needs to learn to brush their teeth. Someone rips the blindfold off and there’s Danny. He says, “Tell us where to get the damn money bitch!” He pulls of a glock 16 and holds it to my head and says, “I swear if you don’t tell me I’ll blow your brains out!” I have no idea; my mom took care of the money!” I tell him, it is true; I have no idea where my mom kept her money. He puts the gun down and says “Anton she doesn’t know anything about the money, her mom took care of it. Why don’t we just let her go?” “Haha in your dreams pretty boy!” says Anton.  I have no idea what they’re saying because they are speaking in Russian, but it doesn’t sound good. Anton pushes Danny out of the way and takes the glock 16 out of Danny’s hands. For no apparent reason he un-cuffs my hands. He aims the glock 16 at my head, he turns the safety off and he pulls the trigger, Danny, just before the bullet hits me jumps in front of the bullet and it hits him in the chest. He falls to the ground; I scream and run over to Danny. He’s dead. The three Russians stare at me and Anton is laughing at me. Tears are streaming down my face; I can barely see, I yell, “YOU BASTARDS!” Tears are still streaming down my face as I grab for Danny’s ak47. I wipe the tears off my face and I fire the gun at Anton and the other two guys, and now they’re dead and I don’t even give a shit! I take the glock 16 off of Anton as well as the keys for the Jaguar and I drive off into the sunset. This is just the beginning of my criminal life. Nobody ever finds me. Nobody ever will, because nobody would ever suspect poor Jesse Stone whose mom was killed, who was kidnapped and tortured. I try not to just kill Russian mob members because that would be plain stupid.  They would find me pretty quickly. I make a living off of stealing, hacking and being the best hit women in the state of California. While also killing Russian mob members. Definitely not the life I expected.

"where ever their were trees multi- coloured"

Two issues here, firstly there needs to be a comma after "trees" to help out with the flow. Also, "where ever" is one word, so write it as "wherever." Furthermore, "coloured" is misspelled, it should be: "multicolored," without the dash. I'm a tad bit concerned that you had so many spelling and grammar errors in the first sentence. I would suggest that if you're incredibly dyslexic (like me) and can't spell that well, copy and paste your piece in word and do spelling/grammar check so it comes out clean before you post.

"our gigantic mansion"

Just by saying that the house is a mansion we assume it's "gigantic," try to omit all useless words whenever you can :). Just say "our mansion."

"going to be the longest time she's ever spent with me"

Couple minor issues here: Firstly, I think realistically that her mom would have spent more than two measly days with her own daughter in their entire lifetime. Secondly, I'd imagine that if her mom has been gone so much and she doesn't have a father... than Jess would have some servants and a governess of sorts. Play with that idea there.

"last time I checked mom never did this"

Two things: One, there should be a comma after "checked." Two, if she's seen her mom at max for one day at a time from your previous comment, than I don't think Jess would pick up on these things unless her mom visits frequently.

"again, if you want to see her alive..."

This is when the unnamed person is calling Jess, just have him say this line once and than hang up. It'll make things more dramatic. Nice job throwing the reader into the dramatic tension.

"after hearing this I freak out"

You have described Jess as "freaking out" a few times too many. Try using a different word to describe her.

Ok, interesting story. A couple issues though, this seems like a book crammed into a short story, so your writing seems a tad bit crammed and the events seem to happen too quick. Also, I think that the FBI would do a better job at their job... but of course that's an interesting way to describe them. Although describe the FBI as more stupid and just crappy at their job gives this story and edge of unrealisticness. So try fixing that up. All and all a good story line, I see a lot of potential out of this piece. I enjoyed reading, thanks for asking me to give you the review! Keep up the good work!

At the moment, I'm very upset, as I just wrote a substantial review, using plenty of examples and was very proud of myself. Then I accidentally closed the tab and lost it before I posted it :(

But I do remember the gist of it, so I'll give you a review nonetheless, but it wont be as long as I'd like it to be.

My first comment was on the fact that you chose the specific celebrity of Emma Stone, especially as she doesn't play a huge role in the story besides getting killed. My pop culture isn't great, so I have nothing against her specifically, it just seems like you could've simply said that her mother was rich, famous and distant. Using real people in fiction isn't usually unnecessary and can sometimes come across as mean, as I'm sure the real Emma Stone wouldn't appreciate being called a distant mother. Then again, I don't know anything about her, so perhaps she's notorious for being a bad mother, I have no idea.

Also, some of your sentences felt a little rushed, like this one:

"I went up to the door and saw that someone had used brute force to open it not keys like mom would’ve used"

You just need to proof read your work, saying each sentence aloud to make sure it flows well and makes sense.

The other two problems I had were with the FBI's complete competence, as well as Jesse's strange love affair with Danny. Again, as I'm not an American I don't know a huge amount about the FBI, but I don't know of any law enforcement agency in the civilised world that would leave a young girl who's famous mother has been kidnapped alone in her house. It felt like a plot hole. As for Danny, she seems strangely drawn to him from the start:

"I tried to talk to Danny again but he was ignoring me. They had taken off their ski masks off and holy shit was Danny ever HOT!"

Considering she had just seen her mum executed, with a message written in her blood on the wall besides her, this really didn't make sense to me. Beyond that, it doesn't seem very fair on your character Jesse, that she just falls into the arms of the first "hot" guy she sees at a time like that. She seems far more upset at the murder of her kidnapper than her mother, unless I'm missing something in the story? Is Danny an FBI agent maybe? I wasn't sure.

Still, this was a good effort and I'd hate to discourage you. I'd say proof read your work, read it aloud and make sure it's written as you speak it and makes sense. Then you need to fiddle with the plot a little, to make it more believable, maybe changing Danny and her mother a little. But yeah, keep at it and you could make this into something nice. Is this gonna be part of a series or something? It seemed to be setting itself up as such towards the end, so I'd be interested to see where you go with this.

Remember, keep writing :)

Thanks, I'll work on proof reading and making my sentences less rushed, thanks for insight! :)

Most things happen for a reason. Though, usually, the forces that be are immature enough that the reason is comedy.
