Poetry Is Stupid

PreviousNext

It's cultured and intellectual

Some would try to say

But I find it ineffectual

When they fawn over it this way

It's just something 'you' don't understand

You cannot have the culture!

To attend a reading every weekend

By these literary vultures

When think they find profundity

They pore from cover to cover

Of life and love and pain and loss

Vicarious experience attained by someone other

Poetry I hope you see

Is like every similar movement

People let something 'higher' in

And mistake it for improvement

So poetry is a practice I think

That will not have my participation

All those carriage returns, for me

Are a source of aggravation

Nice piece of writing. I really enjoyed it. Well written, good description and well thought out poem. Just be careful with punctuation and grammar. I couldn’t find much wrong with it which is good. Overall a great piece, which engages the reader right from the start. Keep up the good work and stay at this great standard. Can’t wait for the next piece of writing you have for us.

Hello, rhia here to review!

For all that you seem to hate poetry here, most of this was written pretty well. I do have some technical issues. There were some points where the rhyme felt very forced, and ended up with some uncomfortable wording. You always have to be wary with rhyming poetry, because so often you work to accomodate the rhyme to a point that it sounds off.

So, Suggestions)

1)

They pore from cover to cover

pore should be pour

2)
It's just something 'you' don't understand

I wouldn't just put "you" in quotations, but the entirity of "you don't understand". It would make more sense.

3) I think that whatever you are referring to with the 'higher' is lost to the reader. You should work to clarify what you mean by letting something 'higher' in.

4)
So poetry is a practice I think

That will not have my participation

I think that these two lines could just be worded in a more fluid way.

Well written and interesting to read. Though this probably makes you the most awful person in the world ^.^

I find it odd that you write a poem to describe your disgust for poetry.
*Looks up Hypocrite in the nearest dictionary*

That aside, I found lots of humour and talent here, and I hope to find more of your writing.
Also, I wonder if you would tell whether you are serious in your hatred of poetry? or is it just an idea for a poem?

Anyways, I hope to see you writing more poetry, because this was fun to read :D

Hey there! Isha here for a review :)

Okie dokie, so the fact that you used a poem to express your hatred of poetry sort of flabbergasts me, but my own (high) opinions of poetry aren't going to get in the way of things :P Self-expression is self-expression, and any mode of it is valid, in my opinion.

And for someone who seemingly hates poetry (unless the entire poem is a joke, which I can see), you're not a half-bad poet. It's not like you used an abundance of imagery, but I doubted that that's the point. The flow worked relatively well, and there's nothing particularly bad about the piece (then again, it's pretty difficult to accurately review a piece of work that's about how much you hate the medium you just used to say that you hate the medium).

So I'm going to pull up:

So poetry is a practice I think

That will not have my participation

the fact that you said that you wouldn't practice poetry, and then wrote a poem about it. I don't know, I suppose that the obvious contradiction adds some humour, but mostly, it makes you look a little bit dense (and I doubt that you are). I can see the poets reading this poem with the snobbiest, most unimpressed expressions on their faces, and I'm whispering to myself, "Oh look, a poetry troll. cute."

Basically: Writing a poem to express your hatred of poems is not an efficient method of proving how terrible poems are. Like using a megaphone to express your hatred of megaphones, or facebook to express your hatred of facebook, aren't good methods of proving your point.

Um. Good job and keep writing,
~Ish

A poetry troll indeed!

thank you for your feedback.
