Chapter 1: The journey to the edge of the mountain

As Jackal was waking up he saw in the corner of the cave Chael putting on his boots.
"Well, what are you waiting for? Get your Sheath and Sword so we can leave." Said Chael. Jackal arose from the ground and grabbed his supplies. Chael started speaking again. "We are only two days away
from Canyonvale. There is no time to waste.
"

"Let's go then.Said Jackal ready to go on with the adventure.
"B
e careful out there, these Crusade Mountains are not very bad,
but they have a few troubles here and there."

Chael listened but did not really take his advice. He doubted the harshness
of the mountains. Chael grabbed his Maple Bow
and arrows and was ready to
go on. He knows how to use a Bow well. For he is an Elf. They headed out
the entrance of the cave and headed up the bushy path that the cave lies
on
"Be Quiet. I wouldn't want to spook anything that's nearby.Said Chael in a
Half Serious voice.

"There are plenty of wolfs around here." Said Jackal. "And don't be surprised if a
troll is here too." Jackal tried to get serious with Chael. He did not want anything
to happen because of Chael's foolishness. They continued up the path and ended
up at a creek that went through the path. "Fill your water skin." Jackal said. Chael
filled it as Jackal filled his. They did not have water since yesterday. "Hopefully we
find a good supply of food before dawn. My stomach is empty." Said Chael.
"We will. There is a lake up ahead about two miles.We will gather fish there."
Replied Jackal. He knew for he has been in these mountains before.
They continued walking. When they finally reached the lake Chael walked
around in search for fish. When he found a good sized fish he grabbed his bow,
pulled an arrow back with a strong force, aimed, let go of the arrow and watched
it slide through the body of the fish. After they gathered more fish they continued
through another path And journied on. As the day turned to evening they ended
up in a little valley with few trees and no cave, but luckily an overhanging rock in
the mountain. "Let's make shelter here until morning." Said Chael exhausted and
hungry. He grabs the fish that they captured at the earlier lake. "Help me find
some wood." Said Chael. They gathered wood and all the supplies needed to
make a fire. They had to hang the fish from a stick over the fire to cook it.
For it was the easiest and fastest way. When it was finished they ate and set up
their sleeping area.

"We will awake earlier tomorrow." Said Jackal. The sky had darkened and the
moon and stars had risen as they fell into a deep sleep.

As the night went by, Chael awoke early with the moon and stars still in the sky.
He decided that he should gather food and water to be ready for the journey
ahead. He walked through the bushy paths of the mountains in search for a lake.
As he arrived at a river (not what he expected) his first instinct was to fill his water
skin. He filled it and went in search for fish. When he finally found a fish he used
his same method and slid the arrow through it's body.

He grabbed the fish from the water and collected his arrow. He did this plenty
more times and decided it was time to put the arrow in his quiver and head back.

He started his walk back to the rock.

* * *

Jackal awoke without seeing Chael and was frightened that something had
happened to him. In his frightened manner, he arose and searched for Chael
around the bushy fields and in the rocky paths. He could not find him. He
walked back to the rock hoping that he would be there and still Chael was
not there. Jackal did a second search for Chael in different areas and in the
same, but he could not find him still. He was done searching. Jackal turned
around to walk back to their shelter. Jackal was very frightened when he saw
the face of a troll directly in front of his eyes. He stood not knowing what to do.
On the nick of time he blinked in fear after the arrow pierced through it's eye
nicking Jackals nose and leaving a splatter of green blood on his forehead. The
troll fell backward pushing the arrow trough it's head with it's eye rolling off of
 it's face.

As Jackal finally became unfrightened and wiped the blood off his forehead and
decided to speak. "Where were you? I have been looking for you! I nearly died!
You don't just leave without warning!"

"I Brung breakfast! So quit your whining and eat!" Yelled Chael. "I'm sorry for
not telling you." "Just make sure you don't do it again. When we need food we
gather food together. We cant take any more risks. Let's eat." Exclaimed Jackal.
They cooked up breakfast and regained energy readying up for another day.
Jackal decided to make conversation. They have not spoken for a while now.

"Nearly left me without a nose back there." Said Jackal. "Well, its better than
being troll breakfast, right?" Replied Chael. "I am just just happy that were
alright. And without my nose, i wouldn't be smelling this wonderful breakfast."
"So now your happy that i gathered fish?" Said Chael.

"Yes i am, but i am not happy that you left so far without warning."
Replied Jackal. Chael was tired or arguing and wanted to eat.
"Let's eat so we can go. I want to arrive at Canyonvale by sundown."
They ate and grabbed their packs. As Chael grabbed his quiver and set his
bow on his back he spoke. "Which path shall we take Jackal?" "We shall take
no path. None lead to the correct direction. We must go east to the edge of the
Crusade Mountains. We must cross over the edge of the mountain and walk
through the fields until we reach Canyonvale." Replied Jackal. He threw his pack
on his back and slid his shiny steel Longsword into its leather Sheath and started
the walk to the edge of the mountain. Awhile into their journey, they
encountered a wolf walking in the deep forest. They did not want to kill it unless
they had to. For they respected nature. As they were walking quietly Chael
grabbed his Bow and an Arrow from his quiver. He wanted to be ready in case
 it tried to attack them.

And right then Jackal stepped on a stick and the wolf turned quickly seeing Jackal
and Chael behind a tree. "Kill it." Jackal said in a very quiet voice. Chael knew it
was time and let the arrow go. They started to run east after the arrow missed the
wolf by an inch and stuck into the tree behind it.

"Run! Run!" Yelled Chael in a terrified voice. They ran and ran and didn't stop
running. Jackal looked behind and saw that the wolf was still on their tail. He
turned back around a little bit dizzy and tripped over a large rock. He was
terrified that he was going to die. "Kill it!" He Yelled to Chael, but Chael was
too late to respond.

Jackal forgot he had a sword at hand and felt a bit safer when he realized it.

As the wolf was jumping into the air to get to Jackal he drew his sword and held
it out above him. The wolf squealed when it was penetrated by the sword
leaving it stained with blood. As the wolf released it's last cries Jackal set his
sword down beside him very relieved that it was over. As Chael walked back
to Jackal he spoke. "Quite an adventure we have here huh?" Said Chael.

"Why does everything happen to me?" Jackal said breathing hard as if he ran a
mile. "I'm not sure, but the only thing we can do now is move on." Said
Chael. "Yes. We need to arrive at the mountain soon. There is not as many
animals there." Replied Jackal.

"Well get up then. You said it. We need to arrive at the mountain soon."

Jackal arose from the ground and grabbed his sword from the wolfs stomach.

They continued on their journey and passed many creeks and rivers until they
finally arrived at the mountains edge.

First: Grammatically, this is all over the place. There are too many errors to list, so I suggest going back and looking all over your sentences over for the tiny errors. Or putting it into word so they show up automatically.

Second: Stylistically, you need some work as well. Your word choices aren't really doing anything for me. You need to really try and find words that are going to dazzle a reader and make them want to really want to keep reading. Your dialogue seemed artificial as well. Try reading it aloud in British accent. If it sounds weird to say, that is probably an indication that it is awkward and needs to be made more realistic.

Third: Setting wise, I have no idea what world this is. You need to tell the reader where they are so that they can start imagining your writing in their heads. Writings are story tellers and all stories need a good place to happen. Tell me about Canyonvale. Tell me about the world around Canyonvale. Tell me about these mountains. Readers want to know as much as possible.

Fourth: Character wise, you need work. If I had to guess, I would say that these two people were just one person talking to themselves. You need to make each character distinct so that the reader can tell who is talking without thinking. Also, the way you introduced Chael as an Elf was too awkward. "he is an elf," is too boring for a reader. What makes him an elf? What characteristics give make him as elf.

Keep working on this. It is going to be a really good story. Happy Writing!
