Be Wary, Good Traveler

It’s important as a traveler
That you make yourself alert
Of your destination’s culture
And the laws that they assert.
If you leave it up to chance
And simply act on a surmise,
Perhaps a couple of the laws
Might catch you by surprise.

If you’re feeling rather daring
And you want to tour the north
On a trip that takes you over
Great Alaska, back and forth,
Be careful not to hurt a moose
That’s with you in the air,
For if you push it off the plane,
You’ll have a legal affair.

Should instead you opt for Europe
As a place to go and see,
But with you is your partner
Who’s as eager as can be
To kiss with gentle passion
On the railways out in France,
You’re as guilty as a couponer
In Greece’s laws of finance.

Violinists should take caution
If Belgium is your haven
And you haven’t reached a level
Where you could be called a maven:
When you’re busking on the street,
Under sunlight or the moon,
There’s a city that can fine you
If your playing is off-tune.

Recalling all these countries’ laws
Might be a bit confusing,
But there’s one you have to know
For when you go out boozing.
Remember that in Scotland,
Even though you don’t know how,
It’s illegal to be drunk
And in possession of a cow.
