Book 1
New Beginnings
Chapter 1
Family
“It is with great pleasure that I present to you for the very first time Mr And Mrs. Ted Dixon,” beamed the wedding ceremony’s officiate Father Patterson. Father Pat as he was affectionately called seemed to be bursting with pride as he made his announcement. The stocky Father from Norwood Anglican Church seemed to dwarf as he stood in his total height of 5 ft. 5” behind the new wife and husband. Theodore Dixon and Katherine Klein-Dixon were a tall pair, the husband was 6 ft. 2” tall while the blushing bride was easily 6 ft tall in her 3-inch tangerine bridal sandals. They looked truly beautiful together, Chanel thought; her daddy was a handsome man with his black wavy medium length hair with distinguished silver streaks at his temple gleamed in the bright May evening light. He was clean shaven today shedding his ever present 5 o’ clock shadow for his wedding day; even his usually unruly dark brow appeared to be at ease. Chanel thought her father had a strong face, his skin was a warm milk chocolate colour, and his warm brown eyes always seem to show his sense of well-being and confidence. Theodore Dixon had a straight nose and his smile revealed perfect rows of white teeth and his dimples on either side of his full lips. Chanel always fancied that her daddy looked like Rick Fox only a ten or so years older version of Rick Fox. For was this his second trip down the aisle Ted wore a black classic two-button non-vented designer suit; cut from high-quality lightweight wool for perfect for the warm tropical lightly scented May evening ceremony. To complement his suit was a simple yet contemporary white point collar shirt worn under a full back gold vest with matching Euro tie. His shoes were of timeless patent black leather round toe loafers and the element that brought together his dashing ensemble were simple yet rich black and gold cuff links. Katherine was a classic beauty and her caramel skin glowed as her happiness illuminated her pretty features. Her makeup was soft peaches in colour with golden undertones her shoulder length hair was pulled back in a loose chignon accented with a light pink orchid with a yellow interior whorl and a fuchsia external whorl. Kat’s white gown was designer strapless satin A-line cuff neckline with a pleated canary sash at the waist that seamlessly coordinated with her groom’s gold vest and Euro tie. The gown flew length dress with a sweep train.
Chanel looked all around her from her vantage point as one of Catherine’s 3 bridesmaids; the atmosphere was one of genuine joy and festivity. Her fellow bridesmaids could only be described as Caribbean chic. Kelly, Kat’s best friend and self-described maid of honour was wearing a yellow satin dress with a sophisticated round neck line with pleating at the neck and ruching at the waist it was a classic knee length a-line skirt that perfectly suited Kelly’s curves. Abby, Kat’s other best friend (her work friend as Kelly considered her) was dressed in a yellow sateen V-neck dress that stopped short of her knees with pleating at the waist that was ultra-flattering. The air was sweet from the heavy aroma of the Blue Shimmer Irises that covered wedding arch. As the happy husband and wife made their way through the wedding canopy that distinguished the intimate gathering from the rest of the Dixon family garden and grounds, their 60 closet friends and family wished them happiness and prosperity by throwing dried rose petals.
The bridal party and guests moved quickly with happy noise from the wedding area through the natural green arbour and onto the covered patio and pool side. The poolside gazebo was converted into a stylish reception area with sophisticated silks in brilliant sunbeam yellow, spicy tangerine and deep green. The covered patio was abuzz with laughter as cocktails flowed and decadent appetizers and hors d’ œuvres were served as the live band played an eclectic fusion of jazz and reggae lovers’ rock.
Chanel slowly moved towards the buffet line with a brilliant smile on her face, the day had turned out beautifully; even her staunch conservative great-aunt seemed pleased. Aunt Elaine had first opposed the marriage on the grounds that Ted remarrying would adversely affect Chanel. Chanel could not help but chuckle, her mother had died when she was a 6 years old and she had come to terms with that a long time ago. Chanel was mature enough to understand that her father needed someone to make him happy and she truly believed that, without being disrespectful her mother’s memory, that Katherine and her father were soul-mates.
She clearly remembered the moment Aunt Elaine met Katherine. Ted and Chanel had invited Kat and Aunt Elaine for Sunday brunch. It was to be a simple and causal lunch. Instead it was a tension filled affair filled with awkward silences and Aunt Elaine’s insistence on ignoring Kat. The lowest point of the day was this: Four people eating lunch a father, his daughter, his aunt and his girlfriend of 3 months. Kat had the salad in hand and when this was said:
“Ted dear please pass me salad when you are through.” This obvious sneer was followed up by a tight cruel grin directly aimed at Kat.
After an exhausting and uncomfortable two hours Kat went back to her condominium. And the remaining three of the Dixon family was left to reflect on the apparent ill-fated meeting. Several hours later and it was at dinner that Aunt Elaine surprised her nephew and grand-niece with :
“Ted the roasted chicken breast is divine. Just divine. Chanel my darling, we must invite Katherine to our next bi-monthly spa visit. She was such a dear at lunch.” Elaine’s quirky grin appeared and disappeared in a nanosecond but the other two occupants of the table were relieved Kat had passed and was officially welcomed into the Dixon family. Ted and Kat’s wedding came 4 months later.
Smiling and chit chatting with guests Chanel made her way from the cocktail area carefully navigated through snatches of conversation.
“−such a delightful summer wedding.”
“I hope it lasts I mean a man like Ted I really did not expect this teenage whirlwind romance−“
“They do make a lovely pair”
“I expected a church affair. Its nice, Tasteful even but I would never marry outside of a church.”
The last bit came from Mrs Hylton, their neighbour who had married 4 times each time at the Norwood Anglican Church, she was once widowed, twice divorced and again happily married for the past year to a Haitian 12 years her junior that she insisted on calling her “French paramour”. Chanel smiled at her neighbours and turned away from their harpy chatter. She had taken two steps when her eyes locked with the most devastatingly handsome man she had ever seen. She did not know him. She had seen him countless times but not like this. Kevin Klein was devastatingly handsome and Chanel found herself ogling. She smiled and made a seemingly involuntary step towards him and then stopped. Her heart rate accelerated and he was staring at her. Kevin was tall he was over 6 feet tall with broad shoulders and a strong frame. He played college football and according to his mother he had the ability to go pro but Kevin wanted to go to law school. Ted and Kat had gone to his graduation from Brown University in early May. Chanel had had her final CAPE exams and was unable to attend so this was to be their first encounter. The plan was that Kevin would stay with the family for the summer and just relax.
Kevin was standing near the side entrance to the Dixon family home. He was standing close to one of the columns but not leaning. He was standing tall and looked handsomely sharp in a custom fitted modern tuxedo. He smiled at her a lazy smile that was slow to appear revealing perfect white teeth as his lips curved. His lips were full, sensual made for kissing.
Kevin was in awe. Chanel Dixon was sweetly alluring in that sunshine yellow strapless mini dress, the small mounds of her breasts were tightly enclosed a strip of satin. Her flawless honey hued skin radiated warmth. She was flawless. The satin pleating that ran all along her dress was form fitting to slim frame. Chanel, Kevin observed, had naturally curly hair, that she styled today in a messy up-do. Chanel had in simple golden studs in hears and a slim almost invisible gold chain with a golden rooster pendant. She had an easy and happy smile with innocently pouty- peachy inviting lips that begged to be kissed.
Chanel took a small intake of air released it and continued. Smiling she introduced herself to Kevin.
“Hi I am Chanel welcome home.”
“Hey thanks.”
She had extended her hand and Kevin gladly took it because all he wanted to do was to touch her. As their fingers linked an intense electric current went through their bodies. It was pure heat. Her hands were soft. His touch was hot. Chanel quickly dropped his hand. She walked pass him and into the house and Kevin followed.

O my God what is happening to me? He is Kat’s son he is now my big brother. I can’t do this. Wait I am not doing anything inappropriate I simply going show him to his room. Give him a tour of the Lexington.

Wow. What was that? She is perfect; beautiful I have never had such a strong physical reaction to anyone. I want her. And it’s not like she actually my sister.
Chapter 2
The Lexington
The Dixon house, known as the Lexington was perched on a green hill side in the ultra exclusive community of Pine Glades where multi-million dollar old mansions were the norm and were only recently surrounded by nascent million dollar townhouses as the community expanded west wards. The Lexington was among the original houses of Pine Glades. It stood an impressive 4 stories with wrap around balconies on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The house’s facade was an eclectic combination of earth rich tropical woods, rough cut stone whose mosiaced colours ranged from deep red brown to gleaming white was finished off with colossal glass panels and windows that ran from floor to ceiling.
The house was originally built in 1940 and had been far too modern among its British styled neighbours. The neighbouring houses were characterized by wooden jalousies, wide porches, and patterned railings and fretwork that dominated urban architecture in the colonial period. Today the Lexington was the premier home of the Pine Glades. The home’s facade had become synonymous to Pine Glades and represented all that the Pine Glades had come to mean: wealth, luxury, and beauty. The developers of the Westland Townhouses had begged and pleaded with, the investment banker Mr. Theodore Dixon, the current owner of the Lexington, to allow them to include the Lexington in their promotional brochures that advertised their townhouses.
Although the Lexington’s stone, wood and glass facade had remained unchanged in the 70 years since it was built the interior and the grounds had changed drastically since 1940. Today the first floor was a wide space efficiently divided to include a fully equipped laundry room, helpers’ quarters and a separate extra full bathroom along with storage. This floor was what most people may call a basement; however, the area was far too well lit and ventilated that it was simply treated as another floor.
The second floor of Lexington was a contemporary open space that flowed seamlessly to include a spacious living area that consisted of large comfortable leather sectional and a rectangular coffee table. This area opened onto the considerable eat-in kitchen. The kitchen was of a professional grade complete with a granite centre island with four cushioned back-less stools used when grabbing a quick snack. The custom made cabinets were crafted from warm tropical woods were large and adequate to house the pots, plates, bowls and utensils. The crown jewels of the kitchen were the professional grade appliances of stainless steel—a two door refrigerator that was always stacked with everything needed to feed a large family. Among the kitchen jewels was a double oven, a six burner gas range and a stone pizza oven and a wine cooler. The main kitchen area was sandwiched by a large pantry and the slightly raised alcove that was the formal dining room. The carpeted dining area was a warmly lit room with a large wood table that seated 12. The dining area completed by two antique cabinets which housed the cherished family china sets.
To the left of the kitchen and living area was the first guest suite that was vacant for almost a decade but religiously cleaned every two weeks by the Dixon family live-in helper Maureen Whitley.
Up the first flight of stairs was the third floor that the family divided into three main areas, Chanel’s room, Ted’s room and the library. In reality however, this floor had two guest rooms that shared a Jack and Jill bath as well as a powder room. However, the Dixon family did not have many guests and so had hardly thought about these extra rooms. They did, however get the bi-weekly cleaning as did the second floor guest suite.
Chanel entered one of the guest rooms and Kevin followed close behind. She could feel the heat of his body emanating from him and warming hers. She smelled his cologne it was spicy sexy scent that made her want have his body envelop hers. She had never been so aware of another person before.
O my God! The thought shocked her. This had never happened before. What is wrong with me? He is Katherine’s son and Katherine just married daddy. And he is a college graduate so much more mature than me. So much more experienced.
In her eighteen years she had never had such a physical reaction to a man before. She felt hot and flustered and light-headed.
“Well this is your room. I’ll leave to get settled and unpacked.” She said in a voice unlike her own. To her own ears she sounded high-pitched and small. She turned swiftly with a tight smile on her lips and almost collided with Kevin. He was standing close, far too close she thought. They were almost touching. Chanel had a small frame but she was tall the way all Dixon women were. And Kevin was even taller. Her lips were at Adam’s apple and her eyes at his chin and she dared not look up. She made a small step to the left in order to the leave the room but he quickly did the same blocking the exit.
He reached for her hand and she jerked away but he held fast around her wrist. She stood still and was even more afraid to look him in the eyes when he rubbed the pad of his thumb gently over her pulsing wrist. Simultaneously with his other hand he tenderly held her chin forcing her to look at him. She did and was lost in the golden hazel of his eyes. Standing so close together as they was she felt his word rather heard when he said:
“Thanks for the tour”. The curve of his lips as he smiled made her come undone.
“O here you are”. The voice their housekeeper Maureen Whitley was a gift from heaven. Kevin let go of her and hand, released her chin and she was free to go. She quickly retreated to the safety of her room.
Chanel lay in bed her heart racing for she had never felt so completely undone by her emotions. Chanel was certain that Kevin was going to kiss her. The thought it was so scandalous that she literally shook the thought from her head. She wanted Kevin to kiss her. That thought was even harder for her to accept. The single thing that was devastating to her was how shamelessly she was drawn to him. Had Maureen not entered when she did Chanel knew that she would allow Kevin to kiss her and she was also certain that she would have thoroughly enjoyed his warm full lips covering hers.
Chanel had come to a firm resolution. She was not going to act like a dim-witted girl infatuated by an older more experienced man. She would be courteous to Kevin but she would not allow herself to be drawn in by Kevin to the point where she lost her reason. A tap on her door firmly brought her back to reality.
“Hi, daddy.” She said smiling as she saw her father in the door frame when she opened her door.
“Pumpkin, are you OK? Everyone is asking for you.” Ted inquires with sincere concern.
“O I just have a headache. I’ll be down shortly.” Chanel reassured him.
Ted lightly kissed his daughter’s cheek and leaves the entrance to her room. At that moment Kevin exited his room and walked towards her and Chanel felt an irrational sense of danger and ran after her father. As she fled she stole a glance at Kevin she was embarrassed by the amusement in his eyes and his mischievous smirk as he followed father and daughter down the stairs.
A few steps from the large living area was a glass French-door that opened up to the back verandas, through that door there was a large garden area with− lush orange and red heliconias, pink and red hibiscus, yellow cordia flowers, vibrant green ferns, starlet anthuriums, red ginger flowers, fuchsia bougainvillea bushes, cacti, yeloow and purple trumpet allamanda flowers, peachy cream West Indian jasmines, miniature coconut palms, a calabash tree from which hung delicate lilies and orchids− planted in two semi circle areas in between the flowers was a raised stamped concrete platform that descended with a four fight step way that opened onto the barbecue area and outside dining area. A fairly quick turn through a natural arbour of Caribbean plants and flowers and you were standing at the pool area where the reception Dixon wedding party where enjoying their cocktail reception
Chapter 3
Chanel
The new Dixon family that included Ted and Katherine Dixon and their children Chanel and Kevin each relaxed in their individual apartments. The newlyweds had plans to have a 4 week honeymoon in Mexico. Ted and Kat were to leave for their romantic Spanish style villa in Cabo San Lucas the day after their wedding. The couple were in a euphoric bliss the night before their intended honeymoon. They were both contented that their children were under the same roof. Ted was glad that Chanel would be in good hands and that Kevin was responsible enough to take care of the Lexington and his daughter. Kat was happy that the pair seemed to get along just fine.
At a late supper, following the departure of all their guests, the new family of 4 were happy the conversation was centred on a complete dissection of the wedding and happy hopes for the soon to be honeymoon.
Lying in bed that night Chanel was restless. Her mind relentlessly went over her meeting with Kevin. His handsome face was seared in her brain. As she lay there she was embarrassed by how the area between her thighs got moist when he touched her earlier that day. Throughout the day she had gone over their interaction in his bed room and she knew she wanted to be kissed by Kevin. Chanel’s discomfiture increased when she felt the now familiar wetness and heat in her underwear as she thought of Kevin, she slowly floated off to sleep.
Across the hall, Kevin wondered about the little imp that had occupied his mind since he saw her that afternoon. Chanel Dixon she was special. He remembered the smell of her-she was a warm vanilla scent. He fancied that he could still smell her in his room even though several hours had passed since their brief encounter. Several hours had passed and Kevin was able to think more rationally, he knew that Ted and his mother, would be infuriated by what he thought when he saw the delicately pure Chanel. He knew she was an innocent by how she reacted to him in the short time spent with her. And yet it appealed him further he ached to kiss her peach-coloured pouty lips.
As he lay in bed, Kevin came to realization that he had to rise above any carnal desires. He was at the Lexington for the summer; he was to be Chanel’s guardian while her father was away on his honeymoon with his mother and Kevin would simply be that her to her, a protector. And as far as he knew aprotector cannot be a custodian and at the same time a suitor; Kevin laughed at the absurdity of his train of thought, it sounded far too 18th century and had the tone of those asinine romance novels his mother and grandmother fancied. With his resolve in place that he was Chanel Dixon’s guardian Kevin hopped out of bed. For whenever Kevin first visited a place he always had trouble sleeping during the first week or so. So he decided to visit the Dixon refrigerator that his mother said was always well-stocked and then to take a trip to the other well-stocked area, he Dixon family library.
Chanel felt warm, snug and safe in her bed. Her breathing had fallen into the deep rhythm of sleep. She slept on her back with her legs parted it was a warm May night and she had abandoned her covers. Her brown honey legs lay bare as she slept in simple white tank and white cotton bikini style panties. She felt a warm pressure between her legs and slowly she came to the realization that she was being stroked. Moist liquid soon wet her panties and Chanel dared not open her eyes. She did open her legs and welcomed the warm soft hand as it slid under the seams of her panties to caress her directly. It was a liquid heat that flowed between them and Chanel moaned as a hot thumb rubbed her peaked nub. She wanted more as she writhed and moaned she arched her back and shocked herself by pleading, “please Kevin please.” She was answered by a wet, hot tongue that replaced his thumb. Chanel felt the flood between her legs as she grappled the bed spread, she was on the edge and was ready to fall. One hot hand held her belly to still her, as the deft fingers of the other hand expertly removed her panties. His fiery tongue devoured her. He licked and sucked her. Chanel’s pleasure hit a frenzied pitch. She saw golden behind her closed lids. Golden fire. Pure heat as she floated in the euphoria of her orgasm.
When Chanel awoke she was in a tangle of bed sheets and her panties were on and physically she felt the same as she had when she had fallen asleep. She felt rested and happy almost on a haze. With a bright smile on her face she walked to large picture window and opened it. She stood by the window and inhaled the sweet perfume of the morning. She had morning ritual and decided to stick to it even on a day like today. She washed her face and brushed her teeth; pinned up her braids and put on her basic green one piece swim suit and headed down to the pool. She liked to swim and it was the only exercise she ever did. She always did 10 laps in the pool each and every morning to start her day. Her muscles got worked and oxygenized and she felt calm and invigorated.
The Dixon family had breakfast together at 7 a.m. every weekday, 9 a.m. on a Saturday and Sunday brunch at 10:30 a.m. It was tradition and this Saturday would be no different. Maureen was in the kitchen preparing since 6:30 she was glad that Mr. Ted had someone to share his life with and that Chanel got on well with the new members of the family. Mother and son were warm and happy and cordial and respectful to her. Katherine was neat and clean and that was what Maureen used as her measure of character. A used damp towel on the bathroom floor or to drink and leave the glass in an otherwise empty sink would earn a strike from Maureen and she was on the look-out to see how Kevin Klein would measure up. Maureen decided that this being the first breakfast of what she thought of as ‘the new Dixon family’, the meal should be special and celebratory. She decided on egg omelette with vegetables and mushrooms, pork sausages, crispy bacon with warm buttery biscuits and hominy corn porridge and simple lightly sweet muffins. She made strong black coffee for Mr Ted and herbal tea for Kat and Chanel as well as some traditional hot chocolate tea. Maureen was humming a happy ditty to herself when Chanel sauntered into the kitchen grinning.
“Morning Maureen dearest” said Chanel giving the housekeeper and her oldest friend a big bear hug from behind as Maureen sweetened and spiced the hot chocolate.
“Well morning to you ‘nel” Maureen answered surprised and warmed by the show of affection. In recent years Chanel’s regard towards her further nurse had grown cool. She was not, an obnoxious sort of teenager that many parents had to deal with but Chanel had grown more reserved or at least calm in the past year. But this morning she was back to old Chanel who loved to hug and kiss and Maureen was happy for that.
“My, my, my and what is the occasion Ms. Dixon?” Maureen asked as she took in her ward’s outfit. Chanel was a picture of youthful beauty her naturally kinky curly hair was out and down, in her signature wash n go style, she wore small gold hoop earrings with her ever present rooster necklace. It was dress that was atypical for Saturday morning breakfast. She wore a jade green baby doll strapless summer dress that stopped mid-thigh revealing her strong shapely legs and feet were clad in tan ballet flats. Her usual Saturday morning brunch costume usually made up from mismatched lounge wear, a sweat pants with an oversized tee and bare feet.
“O the dress! Well it is a beautiful morning and I am just so happy, and blessed and it’s our family breakfast together, and daddy and Kat will be going soon and so will you going to visit your sister in Barbados for your vacation and I thought, it was a special morning and so I got dressed up a bit is all.” Chanel was grinning all the while as justified her dress.
“Well you are just lovely. I too feel this is a good morning and I make a celebration breakfast.” Maureen quickly reeled off her menu and asked Chanel to get the breakfast table and Chanel in turn happily acquiesced.
The Dixon family table seated six and for years Chanel, Ted and Maureen breakfasted companionably and talked over their plans and pursuits for the day. As soon as the table was set and the meal lain the happy couple strode in arm in arm looking the embodiment of happiness. Chanel and Maureen were already seated in their usual places and Ted and Kat took theirs. The lay out was this— Ted and Chanel at either ends with Kat beside Ted and Maureen was centred in a chair apart from both Ted and Chanel.
“Morning my dears. This is a beautiful sight to beyond a king among his women!” Ted laughingly quipped as he watched his wife, his daughter and his best friend sit down to eat.
“This is some spread Maur-Maur. Delightful, thank you dear. And where is the young prince?” Ted asked referring to Kevin.
Chanel did not like that her father thought of Kevin as a son, especially after last night. It made her feel sullied and a sudden wave of shame burned her cheeks and her palms started to sweat. For she felt in that moment that her father was right and she was entirely in the wrong. Her father had married Kat and so if her daddy was king, Kat was his queen and Kevin the prince, Maureen his best friend and advisor and Chanel was the princess that rounded off the Dixon family court, then the princess should not want the prince to fuck her. At that thought an involuntary shiver shook Chanel and she had to set down her tea cup.
“O he is coming down shortly I had to wake him. He doesn’t settle quite as quickly as most he tends to roam at nights till he gets used a place. Happened any time we moved when he was younger and still does. The only place he considered home is at my mom’s. But he’ll get used to the Lexington. He said he spend most of the night in library reading.” Kat offered.
Chanel smiled when she heard Kat’s account, so Kevin cannot sleep in a new place, she was the opposite she almost always slept and woke at the same time regardless of the location. She also smiled because she was certain that he did not spend the entire night in library.
Casually clad in dark washed and seriously worn jeans and a simple grey V-neck tee and sandals, Kevin walked into the kitchen and sat to breakfast between his mother and Chanel.
“Morning family.” He said with a bright smile. Chanel was non-pulsed, why would Kevin, fall into the talk to family when he had done what he had done to her the night before. Chanel felt out of place at the table. Kevin’s smile, manner and tone had no guile in it. Chanel slowly felt the elation of new love and sexual satisfaction that had buoyed her early that morning float away. It was replaced with confusion, sadness and anger. She was confused by Kevin’s inattention and indifferent cordiality. She was saddened that she has wanted him and that she had fancied herself attached to him. In the early morning swim she had conjured up scenes of them together living and loving at the Lexington as they had the night before. She was angry at herself for being duped and by being so easily turned by him and she was angry at him for toying with her at night and to discount her in the daytime.
No good philandering dog. Chanel thought as the happy family ate and talked and laughed around. No one seemed to notice that she was not participating in the merriment that ran along the breakfast table. Her anger was boiling and it came firmly to stop at Kevin with her fork she jabbed into his side. She felt great satisfaction when he jumped. He looked at her and his look was dark and Chanel instantly regretted the childish deed.
“K what’s wrong?” Kat inquired as she saw her son jump out of his chair.
“It’s nothing ma something must have bit me.” Deadly anger flashed through his hazel eyes as he stared at Chanel.
Chanel for her part felt agitated after her outburst. She decided it best to afford any confrontation with Kevin while their parents and Maureen were present. She would simply have to bide her time and her temper until the grown-ups left for their vacations. Then she would really let Kevin Klein have it.
