Yet another Aeon has passed, bringing me one step closer to my death. I have arrived here two teralasts ago, and last rotation's darkness was illuminated with colourful electric storms welcoming the new age. The population of AA63 is modest in size, but the display had been no less than what I would have expected at a major colony, accompanied by an impressive fleet of warships manoeuvring the bright night sky. Normally, each new Aeon would fill me with a sense of joy and admiration of the world, but of late I realised that I don't have many left. I have lived through twenty eight Aeons of date, including the one that just passed. This leaves two more assigned to me before I am to be terminated. As I watched the sky tonight, marvelling at the pulses of blue energy sweeping over the atmosphere at the command of the warships, I could not help being painfully aware of the activity at the body disposal facility within the city, one that probably reaches its apex on every new Aeon, disintegrating the dead.
We will be departing in a teralast once the energy levels of the sky fall and it is safe to travel again. A sandstorm is expected not soon after, and we will seize the opportunity to leave between the two dangers.

Fortunately our team is prepared, so now all that is left to do is to wait for the Pilot to replenish our power reserves and prepare the engines. We were caught by the storm during takeoff. Few of us had any familiarity with AA63, and it was a surprise to us that the sandstorm was highly electric in nature. This may perhaps have been effected by the electrical displays that occurred on the night of celebration. The ship had been heavily afflicted by the abnormal level of energy, not helped by the magnetic charge of the atmosphere. The Pilot is reporting damage to our hyperspace manoeuvring drive, which will make hyperspace travel dangerous at best. The Pilot is proposing that we dock at the single exoport orbiting the star to schedule repairs. After a short conference, we don't seem to have much of a choice in the matter. We can not transport the cargo to Yentez without a fully functioning hyperspace module, and the only port at AA63 does not accept incoming ships at the moment as a result of the storm. However, as an engineer I will first attempt to resolve the situation myself, despite no prior experience with maintaining the technology.

I have managed to solve the issue with the hyperspace manoeuvring drive. It took quite some investigation, but once I found the problem the repair itself was trivial. The damage was a result of the lightning, and a circuit together with its backup counterpart were fried before the Pilot was able to redirect the excess energy that made its way into the hyperspace mechanism. We only have one such circuit board available for replacing the damage, which will leave no backup in the event of an emergency. However, that is quite unlikely, and I have made the necessary replacement. The system was now rerouted, and is currently being initialised by the Pilot, who will perform further stability checks before setting transporting us to Yentez. Yentez is three hundred and seventy eight worlds away from us, which should take about four teralasts to cross. I will now head towards the cabin to claim my seat for hyperspace entry.

Hyperspace
Life is precious, but it is good to be in motion. I've been in hyperspace for near a hundred times by now, yet like a child I still find myself vaguely astonished by the sight - by the concept of travelling in a world different from my own. At this moment, the ship is spinning wildly in an attempt to control itself in the current of energy that is sweeping it forward, as well as to avoid both the occasional ships whose routes intersect with ours and the ubiquitous debris. It would have been interesting to enter hyperspace without forming a current, thus being able to roam it freely - although mathematics have disproved such notions. Nevertheless, one can fantasize.
Once we complete the mission, I think I'm going to change my plan and go home instead. I need to rest - I have travelled seven consecutive planets by now, and my age is plunging me into a haze of weariness. I've been slowly contemplating to retire, which I now should be able to do. Yet I do not believe I will be able to handle the mental disdain that comes with lack of new experiences. If only I was rich enough, I would have been able to remove all the sadness from my life, and artificially instil joy . . . . But alas, that is not so. OH...MY...GOODNESS! XD As I was reading this, I felt like this was most definitely your category in writing! You did it all so well. The only thing that I didn't understand is the fact stuff at the end....although I'm really not a Sci-Fi kind of girl-(being technical I that is) . I was intrigued by this story. And even though I believe this to be an older man, he's got a young spirit~ that's what I got from it that is. And I liked the way he thought.
One thing you need to know about how I do a review is, I don't look for grammar, or punctuation. (Unless it's plain out bad. And by chance I notice it.) I look for how the story unwinds, and how the characters develop. And this story was definitely unwinding.

This was a very interesting journal. It seems as though you spent a lot of time thinking this through and making sure that it was perfect, and it definitely shows. Thanks! I spent a few days planning it before trying to write it. I invented the units to make it more realistic. The current units we use are quite arbitrary, and have no physical significance ^_^
