The salty breeze, the warmth of the sun
Enveloped me as soon as I arrived.
When my feet touched the sand, I looked and saw
Different eyes, different people, a different world that thrived
Volleyballs in the air, bikes rushing by, language I wasn’t used to
Surrounded by mountains so green, so alive, a sky so blue
And above, was the lord, watching down over me.

Hi! Eucalyptusjoos here.
I've always wanted to write a work about a place I've travelled, but inspiration usually comes during the trip, and by the time you're free, it's gone with the wind!
Very nice imagery. Your language has a visual vibrancy to it, and is very easy to imagine. The poem is short and sweet, encapsulating that sometimes less is better.
"When my feet touched the sand, I looked and saw
Different eyes, different people, a different world that thrived"
I love this line so much because it really gives you a glimpse into another world that is so different and so good too. This novelty of expressions is why human beings have sought to travel and put their mark on each part of the world. Especially because Rio is one of the most diverse cities in the world, one huge melting pot of indigenous as well as foreign ethnicities.
I like how there's both mention of tourist as well as local activities. It's very easy to get entranced hearing languages you're not used to.
I love the subtle rhyming that doesn't stand out at first but gives the poem such an easy boost that you realize it immediately once you're done.
The allusion to Christ The Redeemer's statue was a very nice touch.
All in all, a very short, simple poem. 10/10
Your poem is short but sharp. I like how you opened with the sensory details of touch and taste as opposed to the more conventional sight. It brings us right there, to the scene, arriving with you.
You continue with more sensory detail 'feet touched the sand' and segue into the realm of sight: different eyes, different people. It's punchy and vibrant.
Then you switch to the nature side of things, and the spiritual: so many ideas in just a few lines -I think you did this really well.
