Hi everyone, I haven't posted here before because I didn't really have much to share but I've got an article up at associatedcontent.com and was hoping I could get some feedback. If you have something you want to say about my opinion feel free to leave a comment on the article but please keep feedback of the writing here. Here is the link: http://www.associatedcontent.com/articl ... tml?cat=41

Any feedback, positive or negative is appreciated.

Thank you

Hey there!

I read your article and you do, like the others said, mention some good points, but it lacks the captivation to have any real affect. I think that if you're going to moan about something and only really give one side of the argument, you either have to put your all into it and look like you're really exaggerating, or you have to be humourus because otherwise, we don't want to read on. Debating is similar to ranting. You see, when you rant on a serious note it is important that you still offer the alternate opinions of others and how it can be good, because otherwise there's not really anything we're reading. Have you ever been in a situation where someone's just moaning about the weather or being pessimistic about life, etc? It's boring. Which is why you need to have humour. It's either this, or you need to give both sides of the argument...

~ Hope this helps,
Ben

P.S. If you like a good rant, join my column crazy group and we can help you develop a style, humour and you can have a good old moan about anything that crosses your mind. You'll find it in Groups => Group Index => Show all groups.

I sort of agree with you. I sort of don't.

You make some really good points, but I think Valentine's Day is just for fun.

It was very well written though. :D

Best,

Hey, Joanne! Welcome to YWS, I hope you'll like it here! I'm Chisel, nice to meet you!

I've read your article, and I somewhat agree with you. Personally, I do not like Valentine's Day (only because I do not have a significant other right now), and I feel that it somehow discriminates people to be "happy" or "unhappy" based on this simple fact, you know? You've given a lot of dates to your readers to validate that there is no substantial evidence in history that suggests where this practice came from. But, there doesn't have to be a reason for everything - people need to feel loved, and it's a good enough reason just as that in order to have a day where everyone expresses the love to their spouses and families. Sadly, you have to agree that nobody goes around and buys presents for their husbands or wives, unless it is mandatory. That's how selfish we are!

Now on another note. A usual article states the problem, its underlying context, purpose, complications second, and then its solution. Your article came out in more of a personal opinion because you did not necessarily suggest that we should abolish Valentine's Day, except for in the title. Maybe you could add a little more detail to that. However, I do not know the website, AssociatedContent, and its intent. To me, it looked like a newspaper website! Is it more on a citizen-to-citizen level?

Feel free to PM me with any questions!
