To isolate is to be angry, Alone.

But to be angry is too close to violence.

So why not be alone?

Alone is scary.

Alone is losing yourself.

Alone is impossible.

But the feeling is still there.

Alone and depression are interlinked.

A big word often misused and as funny joke.

That hurts me.

That a state so serious and personal is made into something so unserious.

Depression is a problem that feels impossible to fix.

You know it's there.

It pops up now and then.

It eats away at your brain.

Feeding.

You don't know how to fix it.

The help you need seems obsolete.

It seems Impossible to actually follow through.

As a state of loneliness, it is easy to lose yourself.

That's what I found myself doing.

Losing myself.

I've been gone 6 months now.

I'm still lost.

I'm still looking.

But that feeling keeps on coming back,

More often,

It’s eating away at all of me now.

I feel as though it will soon be finished.

I will be empty,

but the monster still there,

looming,

waiting for the next time to strike

and I will be left

All alone.

Hello, I enjoyed this poem. It felt more like a journal entry of sorts. I have been struggling the same way recently. I just finished my own poem trying to word my loneliness. I like how you described it as "eating away." That is a great visualiser and a grotesque way of explaining depression. I honestly would love to see that expanded on more, maybe something with more visuals of eating away and "being finished."
Overall, I enjoyed reading this poem, and it was very vulnerable of you to share it. It sounds like you are struggling, and I hope writing is a way to help you cope. Have a great day :)

I love that you empathised with this poem and I am happy that you related to it. I hope you have an amazing day too.

Hello, My Friend!

Pleasure to meet you, and also, welcome to YWS! My name is Raven, and upon spotting this poem, I thought I'd give it a quick review. Hope you don't mind!

To start, WOW! This was a gorgeous poem—it explores such a dark and unfortunately persistent state of mind. A state wherein, all too often, people will just accept that this is the new normal instead of seeking help. Befittingly, it really feels like there were some frustrations being vented here, regarding how unseriously depression is taken, and how recklessly the word can be thrown around...But of course, that's just my interpretation, sorry if I'm off here.

*ahem* As far as a more technical review goes, I don't really have a lot to remark on. The substance here is great, neat metric and grammar. The only thing I could manage to nitpick was this here:

It seems Impossible to actually follow through.

The I in "Impossible" being capitalized felt a bit odd to me, that's all. And that's just one tiny thing! Moving on...

Ooo, choosing a favorite line or section here is hard, I love everything about this. But if I had to pick some...

To isolate is to be angry, Alone.

But to be angry is too close to violence.

So why not be alone?

This opening really caught my attention and sucked me into the poem. And looking at it in hindsight, this reference to anger and violence makes you wonder if it's not just talking about it being directed toward others, but to one's self.

Alone and depression are interlinked.

A big word often misused and as funny joke.

That hurts me.

Again, I just love the attention you drew to how depression is too often reduced to a joke, or used in all the wrong contexts and meanings. Likewise, I love this recurring theme and focus on loneliness, as the two really are conjoined so often, it's honestly hard to talk about one without the other. This honestly reminds me of one of my favorite songs, exploring these sorts of feelings and symptoms. Quote, "I'm giving into the absence that has become my life, has become my state of my mind." Very lovely; it may be a dark subject matter, but an important one, and god knows it's safer to explore its depths through art rather than reality.

That's what I found myself doing.

Losing myself.

I've been gone 6 months now.

I'm still lost.

I'm still looking.

This...was beautiful. Talking about losing yourself—like, no words, this was simply a beautiful moment in the poem.

Overall, that was incredible, and I am so happy that you shared this with us on YWS. Thank you very much, and nicely done!

Thus concludes my review. To leave off, here are some inspiring quotes, courtesy of your resident Poe freak ~

"They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night."
"Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality.”
"I would define, in brief, the poetry of words as the rhythmical creation of Beauty."

thank you so much for your response, I do not know what I just pressed as I am new to YPS but I stickied something?

I am so happy that you have enjoyed my poem and reading your feedback made me smile. I posed this poem to express how I was feeling and just to share really. I was not expecting such a positive response and thank you.

You're very welcome! :D
