Through the glass i saw
A girl so happy
She ran in circles giggling
Gullible
Immature
But she was contented
So full of life
So... Different
I can't feel it
The emotion isn't mine
Then suddenly she grew
Perhaps taller
Still gullible
Still immature
She was angry
Angry that she had to leave her friends early
She missed
Missed on friends, who at that time, she thought she had
I can't feel it
The emotion isn't mine
Then she was furious
At something else
At her friends
At everyone
Hurt and betrayal
Always been
Forever will be
She trusted
She is gullible
She mourns
But alas
I can't feel it
The emotion isn't mine
-
Not anymore

Hello! This poem seems very personal and self-reflection oriented.
The way that "I can't feel it / The emotion isn't mine" is used here really works because of how it creates a sense of detachment, even though the girl's emotions get more and more agonizing.
What I really like is the progression: Happy —> Angry —>Furious —> Hurt and Betrayed. It makes you feel as if you are looking into someone's life through photographs while the speaker watches from afar, never being part of any one of those versions of her.
The use of "Gullible" as a recurring descriptor is also something that interests me because its meaning changes as the girl grows up.
I think that the ending of "Not anymore" is the best part of this piece. In it, it changes the meaning of everything else. It makes it seem like maybe that emotional detachment which was there before isn't there anymore. Why did that change?
One thing that I could think about would be changing "She missed / Missed on friends". "She missed out on friends" would make grammatical sense but if that weird phrasing is intentional then it should stay.
In the end, I think that this piece is pretty good on its own because it leaves you wondering. Good luck with your future endeavors!
Hi
Concerning the "missed on friends" part. It's intentional. The phrase "missed out on friends" didn't quite scratch the spot i was going for. It wasn't exactly in the tone i intended. "Missed on friends" means that she felt distant from her friends or like her friends were distancing from her.
Not sure if it makes sense.
Thank you for your feedback!
Namaste, this is shakthisinha..
I really liked this poem because it feels very personal and honest. At first, the girl is shown as happy, carefree, and full of life, even though she is described as gullible and immature. As the poem goes on, we see her growing up and slowly becoming more angry and hurt because of the things she experiences. I liked how the emotions change throughout the poem because it makes the reader feel like they are watching different stages of the same person’s life.
The line “I can’t feel it, the emotion isn’t mine” stood out to me the most. It gives the feeling that the person speaking is looking back at their younger self, but feels disconnected from who they used to be. The repetition of this line also makes the poem feel more emotional each time it appears.
I also liked how the poem doesn’t explain everything directly. We don’t know exactly what happened with her friends or what caused the betrayal, but we can still understand that she has been hurt and has changed because of it. The words “She trusted also She is gullible and She mourns” show how her trust, which might have once been something innocent, eventually became something that caused her pain.
The ending, especially “Not anymore,” is simple but effective. It makes me think that the speaker has changed so much that they can no longer relate to the girl they once were. Overall, I think the poem does a good job of showing growing up, losing innocence, and feeling disconnected from your past self. It has a sad feeling to it, but that’s also what makes it memorable.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this poem. It has a lot of emotion behind it and I think the message comes across really well. The way it shows change, growing up, and slowly losing touch with your younger self makes it quite relatable. Keep writing and exploring these emotions because I’d love to read more of your work. All the best to u, and I hope you continue creating more beautiful poems....
Thank you so much!
