Anywhere But...

(Inspired by the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. I just finished reading it today and was incredibly moved. I loved it and I highly recommend it to all of you. The main character goes through a difficult situation in the book, and I was looking at how I would approach it from my prospective. Anyway, hope you like it.) (Oh and BTW, for those of you who are wondering, the second to last line before the end is French for 'Are you listening?")

Anywhere But...

The fluorescent lights of the room,
Make me look paler than I already am,
But I prefer it over where I’ve been.

We were making out in deserted room,
Both of us a little drunk,
Then he slipped on top of me.

I SCREAMED
SCREAMEd
SCREAMed
SCREAmed
SCREamed
SCReamed
SCreamed
Screamed
screamed.

I'd told him I wasn't ready,
But he tugged on the hem of my blouse.

I cried and flailed my arms,
But he still touched me.

Then I hit him,
He fell back,
I ran as fast as I could.

Now I'm here - where no one really wants to be.
Except me.
I'd rather be anywhere besides that room.
Est-ce que tu ecoutes?
ANYWHERE BUT THERE!

I love the book speak the movie is good to! I like this poem especially how you made scream get big to little. It's like she was screaming really load but then she lost her strength at the end and she couldn't do anything. I like the addition of the french sentence it makes the poem a lot better, for me, since I take french. Very good poem keep writing! PM me if you need another review!

I agree with you that Speak was a very good book, but I don't remember any of the specifics of it right now, so don't base my review on that. As for your poem, I like how realistic this it is, and I like that you added some french in at the end. However, it doesn't have much in the way of figurative language, and I only have the vaguest ideas about where she is as this poem is taking place. Also, the transition is kind of fast between them just making out and him raping her/attempting to rape her. Otherwise this poem is pretty good.
