I met a man this morning,
Dressed all in red and white,
And the only words he spoke were,
"Don't wait up for me tonight".
His hair was white and silky,
His face was plump and red,
And his belly shook and jiggled,
At every word he said.
His coat was lined with fur,
His hat was made to match,
His boots were black and pointed,
But his name I did not catch.
I turned around to walk away,
When I thought to ask his name,
But that fat old man had disappeared,
Back to where he came.
That night I lay asleep,
When I awoke to a mighty crash,
Something scraping in the chimney,
Down the stairs I quickly dashed.
I came in to the hallway,
It would be midnight soon,
And saw a stooping shadow,
In my living room.
I mustered up my courage,
And strode bravely through the door,
But whatever made that racket,
Was standing there no more.
Instead of masked robbers,
On the floor was a sizable mound,
Of brightly coloured parcels,
Not a burglar to be found.
I went back to my bed,
And fell into a troubled sleep,
I woke up in the morning,
With a stocking at my feet.
I looked outside my window,
And saw riding away,
A host of flying reindeer,
Pulling a golden sleigh.

Should this be:
And the only words he spoke were,
'Don't wait up for me tonight.'
This was a very good festive poem that reminded me of 'Twas The Night Before Christmas'!

It's so... jolly!
I like it, and I like that it rhymes even more.
Excellent job
Yeah, I found that unlike some rhyming poems this was not forced and it flowed really well, that is, until the second last stanza which seemed just a tad off. Just a tad.
Good work.
Happy/Merry Christmas! (And welcome to YWS!...a little late)
I love a good Santa Clause poem. It distinctly reminded me of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. I especially liked the burglar stanza. Hee hee.
Not that I know much about poetry, but the rhythm and rhyme were sublime. It flowed very well.
Good job, Izzy! I enjoyed it.
