ok, the Deltora series is not that popular in the U.S.
I had never heard about it until my cousing came over with a bunch of the books and I read the first series, Deltora Quest.
Its set in a mythical land where the shadow lord has corrupt the land, and lief believes if he finds the scattered gems from the belt of deltora, he can drive away the enemies baack into the shadowlands.
Lief is joined in his quest by the great fighter Barda and a sly and deadly girl from a forest called Jasmine.
Its pretty good, and I cant wait to get my hands on the second series.

I LOVE IT!!!
I love the characters, the twists, the edge-of-your-seat excitement, the riddles, and everything! I really enjoyed assessing every single character and guessing who was going to turn out as the traitor.
Seriously. Everyone who likes the classic quest theme must read it. It's amazing. Truly.
I mainly just loved the riddles and puzzles and yeah, plot twists. The series seemed to follow an almost video-game format...

I loved it when I was 11, bought all the books, but as I got older I just didn't love it as much, turned actually to Eragon.
It's ok and the 3rd series is really good. It's still got a place on my bookshelf.
I used to love the series when I was about 12 or 13, and I think it introduced me to the epic fantasy genre (though I'm not too sure Deltora would actually be considered epic). Looking back, I think the plot is kind of cliched, but I still love it. It has a good amount of plot twists, especially in the last books of the three series. I just loved all of the riddles the characters had to solve. There's a companion book "written" by Josef (I think) that has the major monsters illustrated that I still look at sometimes just become the art's so pretty.
Definitely read the other two series. I didn't like the second one as much because they were underground most of the time, but the third was great.
And did you know Japan made an anime out of it? I've only watched one episode out of curiosity, but it wasn't bad.
