E - Everyone

Forget Their Scripts.

PreviousNext

I don’t see what all your problems are.

You claim if the quote that I say

isn’t Francis Bacon,

Ernest Hemingway

or Aristotle,

if it hasn’t graced the lips

of Shakespeare,

Dr Seuss,

or Marilyn Monroe

then my point is not valid.

My words have no impact.

But honestly?

Even you must know

that’s not the truth.

.

I’ll quote Einstein,

Archimedes

or wise ol’ Buddha,

if it is required.

And I’ll quote Vincent van Gogh,

Pablo Picasso

or Leonardo da Vinci,

if I feel like it.

Maybe I’ll try Lewis Carol,

Demi Lovato

or even Lady bloody Gaga,

because I’m in the mood.

And if I want,

if I want I’ll quote Anonymous

and Unknown

or even my brother.

.

Because frankly, it’s time we realised.

It’s not the name that is attached to

a series of aimess words,

that makes it meaningful.

It isn’t who said that ‘deep seeming’ jargon,

that makes it worthwhile.

And it most certainly isn’t

the hot body that spat out

some pointlessly long words,

that makes something important.

.

It is what it says,

and what it means.

That is what makes something

significant and purposeful.

That is what matters.

.

So stop claiming that because of his sexy eight pack,

or thanks to her amazing songs,

or even just cos they’re known even in Greenland,

that what they say is how we should live our lives.

Start thinking for yourselves,

and try trusting the little guys.

`Cos more often than not,

it’s the little guys who know,

who understand what it means and what it’s like.

They’re the ones whose words

may not be known,

but are saturated by their own experiences,

and aren’t just read from the scripts

that they can’t even create for themselves.

I love your writing style. This is proof here that you don't have to rhyme to have a good poem. Celebrities have influenced the world so much and sometimes for the worst. Keep up the good work.

Hello! I loved reading your poem, and I completely agree with it. Society is so messed up, and so are it's values . You hit home this reality that the world tries to define who we are with phrases such as "And it most certainly isn’t the hot body that spat out some pointlessly long words, that makes something important." Sometimes (actually, a lot of the time) I feel like society has this set out plan for me that I'm meant to follow.

But isn't that BoRiNg??? Their scripts for the play called Life don't matter, and we can improvise and make it our own creative show. I really liked how you tied in the idea of a play.

Amazing job on this poem. I can relate to it is so many ways. Keep writing like this...I want to read more! :)

This poems shows the same way I feel of society.. its like we have scripts and we have to follow the lines of the world without even stopping like a play!

I feel this an amazing poem since you expressed the feeling of the world and why do we have to follow the scripts that the world gives us; why not live freely and do what we want!!

I enjoy these writings you do and I hope that you continue to write this splendid poems or if your a writer, story!!

Thank you so much! :) I think it's something that we really have to stop; relying on scripts and only looking up to those who're famous.
Thanks for the review!

Oh, the irony. Somehow, while I was reading, I thought your poem would end with a quote that supports your statement, for it would make it "legitimate", according to the society in which we live in, and I'm pretty sure the irony would make it even more thought-provocative.

Shakespeare might have agreed with you: "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet". Your poem made me think of this quote, for it could support your argument, as it could be implying that it's not the name of a quote that matters but the meaning a statement holds. I suppose we are trained to look up to the known names and ignore the "little guys" as you say. But I love your poem; it's critical and very well written.

Excellent poem. Keep writing like this!

Thanks! I was considering putting a quote at the end when I first wrote it, but I couldn't seem to find one that reflected the meaning of the poem properly, but is also from a not-so-well-known person, so I decided against it xD... I'll keep looking for a good quote though ;)
:) Thanks for your review GeeLyria!

Hi!
This is a really good poem; more importantly, there's a good idea behind it. Were you speaking to our society in general, or more to a group of people in specific? You were pretty direct, and almost seemed like you were talking to someone/a group.
I noticed one grammar error, "My words have no impact" doesn't read right; maybe you read it a different way, or you intended it to be "My words have no impact"? I just wanted to let you know; I write typos all the time, but I read so fast I don't notice them XD
Also, in the third stanza, you use the combined words "pointless words" or "pointlessly long words" a little too close together. This gave me the feeling I was mentally repeating myself while reading this, and sort of disrupted the flow that you other wise kept perfect. You don't have to change it--it is your piece--I just wanted to let you know!
Anyways, I really like this! I agree that it is the intelligence, ideas, and emotion behind to words we say that makes them worth saying. Current celebrities say 'follow your dreams' and people treat them like gods and goddesses raised on crystal pedestals, and I sit there like... um... a million people have already said that before then... XD
So I really like the idea behind it! Great job :D And welcome to the site; I hope you stick around :)

It's more based on general society, but it's sorta aimed at some people who actually said in response to something I said that "it didn't matter, because it was a made-up quote" (which is utterly stupid, especially since it wasn't made up...), so that's probably why it seems really direct.
Hehe and thanks for the grammar suggestion, I have to use this for an assignment for school so it's appreciated! (as is the suggestion about the 'pointless' repetition)---and I honestly like it when people actually tell me that's something wrong because for the most part I never realise the little typos xD
Thank you!!
