Fading of Light (Regret)

by Epicdonkalous

The Fading of the light

I grasp
The final ten-
drils, extending dying
hands. Light then recedes, dwindling ;
Devoid.

Once dark,
Black consumes me,
Shutting my eyes to all;
Blindly, I stumble, feeling for
The switch.

The switch
To make it all
Vanish, to show the way
out of calloused mazes , lurking
beneath.

Shrinking,
My eyes drink in
The warm light, only to find that
It’s worse.

Light is
Worse than dark. In
The dark, fears are hidden, my
Demons stashed; All the bright does is
Show truth.

Truth that
My soul is far
Gone; a truth that only
Resides in the hottest of all
Places.

Hell melts
The ice that once
Shrouded secrets. Water
will not hide much. Shallow wet bare-
ly veils

The past.
My past does not
Hold ghosts, only faded
Remnants of what was. Of what is
To come.

Of what
is to come. On-
ly terror lies in wait,
to slither blistering numb fin-
gers in

to glass
places, shatter-
ing sanity. Numb whisp-
ers invoke a longing for dark;
Regret.

I'll keep in mind the below comment - these are cinquains.

Take with salt; yadda yadda.

Cinquain reference(for my own benefit):
1. unstressed-stressed or short-long (iambic)
Then 2 stresses, 3 stresses, 4 stresses, one.

Alright. I don't usually use such explicit forms. This will be interesting.

I grasp
The final ten-
drils, extending dying
hands. Light then recedes, dwindling ;
Devoid.

Phhaw... Well. Already the meter doesn't follow what I found online. -_-'
It goes fine in the first and second stanzas, but the third and fourth are each short a stress. (bolded for reference.) This could be purposeful. I don't know. I don't do meters. -_-

Anyway. Otherwise, dying hands extend to grasp the last light; then darkness. Good. No qualms, quibbles, or scribbles.

Once dark,
Black consumes me,
Shut.ting my eyes to all;
Blindly, I stumble, feeling for
The switch.

Okay, stresses so far: 1-2-2-3-1, 1-2-2-3-1.
I suppose "eyes" may be stressed... My scansion skills are meager. It doesn't feel stressed.

Meter aside: "Once dark, black consumes me, shutting my eyes"
I think by "Once dark" you mean "once it is dark." Unfortunately, that does not follow without those nasty extra syllables. Consider: "Now dark, black consumes me..."

Holistically: the dark was unexpected - blown fuse or tripped circuit, yeah?; instead, you just "flip the switch." I immediately think lightswitch. Could be circuit. Unclear. Hrm.

The switch
To make it all
Vanish, to show the way
out of calloused mazes , lurk.ing
beneath.

Meter? Ain't nobody. Ain't. Nobody.

I'mma do it anyway, because I feel like I should... 1-2-1-4-1. This one really gets me. The stress on "van" is questionable; perhaps you are suggesting a stress on "to" or "the"? "Show" and "way" are both... unstressed. "Lurking" is two stresses for one.

"calloused mazes" could be a reference I'm not catching, or it could just be poor diction. I favor the latter, but I'm biased towards myself. I think you were just looking for a stressed syllable that sounded nice.

Shrink.ing,
My eyes drink in
The warm light, only to find that
It’s worse.

2-2-3-2. And the first line is not short-long, but long-short. And there are only 4 lines?
Keep in mind I suck at scansion, and yell if you see something wrong.

You realize you rhymed a little? "Shrinking", "drink in."

Your lines interplay, then the last one breaks the flow.

Light is
Worse than dark. In
The dark, fears are hid.den, my
De.mons stashed; All the bright does is
Show truth.

Last two clauses don't flow.

Stressed-unstressed first line. Not iambic. 1-2-3-4-1. It follows Crapseyan form! (Except the first line -_-' )

The ideas are all solid and follow well.

Truth that
My soul is far
Gone; a truth that only
Resides in the hot.test of all
Places.

Except for the first line, it fits. 2-2-3-4-1.

Hmm. Fear of dark stemming from a soul lost to hell.

Hell melts
The ice that once
Shrouded secrets. Water
will not hide much. Shallow wet bare-
ly veils

"Shallow wet" is poor. Perhaps use pool? Or water?

Perfectly follows Crapsey form.

The past.
My past does not
Hold ghosts, only faded
Remnants of what was. Of [W]hat is
[t]o come.

"Of" is egregious. Along with the "the" I removed before. Just so you know what they are.

1-2-3-3-1. Perhaps faded could be two stresses.

What was, is to come; not ghosts but remnants. Hrm.

Of what
is to come*:* On-
ly terror lies in wait,
to slither blister.ing numb fin-
gers in

I don't feel the stress on "Only," so... Eh. I also don't count "only" as a stress anywhere before.

1-1-3-4-1. First line is iambic.

The dashed breaks are weird. Not sure about them.

So... Hell melted the veil of ice around surrendered soul, now reaching for it, you are burned. I follow.

to glass
places, shat.ter-
ing sanity. Numb whisp-
ers invoke a longing for dark;
Regret.

Reaching for Hell's captive soul, you reached within, found naught - and realize never was there one for Hell to take. Shivering stuff.

1-3-4-3-1. A little off again. First line is iambic, though.

The breaks in the middle of words: Sometimes okay, I think. But usually, it breaks flow. Which is bad.

Whoo. Well. Quite the poem, honestly. A lightswitch hitch into a soul-searching goose chase, shattering failed escape. I like the story, holistically. Technically, there are improvements to make. But good.

Be forever hortatory,

Hello Epic,

A difficult format to write in, so, I understand why you did some things, but it was still confusing until I got the hang of it. For example, in the first sentence I read the word tendrils as ten drils, which confused me. Though, awesome poem overall. Like I said, this looked very hard to write, but maybe go back and think about word choice so that you can improve clarity. Great Job!

Hola, donk!! I liked this one. This is a pretty good poem to me. I am a little confused.

Why are some of the words cut off? Maybe I just don't understand cinquains, but I got lost a couple of times.

A couple of times in fact. But, It's still a good poem. Keep it up!!

I wish you'd have explain the confusing parts, but thanks, hon! <3

Hey, Epic!
Euphers here to "review and rip apart" your poem, as you asked. c:
Let's get started..

Title:
I love it, and it definitely captures the essence of the poem, but I feel like it would still be just as bold, if it weren't such a mouthful, and you cut it back to "Fading Lights (Regret)"* o.o

Construction:
You're spacing drives me absolutely crazy.. >~< I feel like there are certain sentences that you split up, that should just be a new line of it's own.

Poetry itself:
As i told you before, I love the lyrical vibe you get as you read this poem. It's truly magnificent, and just .. I'm in awe, it's beautiful. :3

Overall:
Great job kiddo, and keep up the good work! I'd love to check out more of your work.
Hope this helped!

Thanks, love! <33333 As for the spacing, these are written in cinquains, so I tried to stick with the syllables. xD

I always knew that deep down in every human heart, there is mercy and generosity. No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.
