Jacob's Ladder

by EgoSumNovus

Published December 19, 2009

Words play like children in a street- like sacrificial lambs.
Spotless as I claim, spotless as you think-
nothing more than that.

I string them together, pearls on a necklace that
winds and winds, a staircase to nowhere.

Jacob climbed a ladder toward heaven,
but I ascend stairs with no purpose but to
walk-
I walk because I choose, because my words have led me here,

and I have followed them,
because they are easier to follow than the words of God

even if I follow them to Hell.

Break the pearls and scatter them
and leave one last word on my lips,
"God"...

nothing more than that,

and maybe I will join Jacob on his ladder.

DId anyone else get the image of dictionaries with lamb feet playing jump rope in some midday town-street?
...
Why are you all staring
anyways, great poem. Fantastic imagery from the get-go.
Keep writing and rhyming (or not rhyming)

Okay that totally made no sense and that was exactly why I liked it! The punctuation was bit emily dickinsonish, and I can't say i prefer that style, but to each his own! yeah, keep climbin that ladder.....maybe you'll get to heaven and meet me, eh?

Hey, awesome, I'm glad I found this. That's a tough choice to make, climbing that ladder, even if words have led you no where. Just make sure that the ladder you climb is not made of words as well. Words have the effect of bringing one farther away from the nature of reality, and therefore further from God. I enjoyed reading this and thinking about it. Well done.

Hi, Pink here!
Just dropping by to give you a star. :)
This is pretty good, I like it a lot.
I love the meaning, I like the deep message that it sends. It flowed and the lines were amazing.
I can't review/critique this because I don't write poems...
But keep it up, you're really good!
