I'm sorry that I lied to both you and me

I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Maybe I’m just afraid to try anything with anyone as of right now. I would be happy to just grow up and be the lonely old cat lady at the end of the block that all the parents tell their kids to stay away from because I was crazy.

That’s fine by me, I really don’t care, because I do know that I don’t want to be in the relationship I’m in now, it’s not because I hate him, I don’t hate him. I just don’t see me and him going anywhere. All because he won’t let me do as I want or go where I please without telling him or talking to him in detail about it, and I hate it. I don’t like being tied down, I don’t like having someone tell me what I can and can’t do. I refuse to let some guy do it to me again after the first time that nearly destroyed me. Maybe the first guy should have been the only guy and that should have been the end. I am so stupid for thinking any of them could be different. I was wrong to even hope.

Yea this one was really sweet and even my parents liked him, everyone liked him in fact and I thought we might have had something. When in reality we were just playing around and we have nothing but a few words and feelings that weren't meant to last. Yea I said I wouldn't go anywhere but I guess I lied, because I’m not staying. I can’t make myself stay where I feel I’m not needed or where I have a feeling that it’s not healthy for me to stay. So I’m sorry, I know I said I wouldn't do it this way but there again I lied I guess I’m just a coward like some people say. I am too damn scared to see myself hurt again so instead of letting someone else hurt me I hurt myself and try not to hurt the other person.

I don’t hate him, I really don’t. I just need time alone and without attachment that I have to worry about if or when I decide to do something out of impulse or just because I wanted to. I want to know why the fuck did I ever say yes in the first place? Why didn't I just say "let’s be friends and see where it goes from there", because once you go past friends there’s no going back to just friends. I don’t care what people say once lovers, you either never stop loving each other or you were never in love to begin with.

I’m just another stupid teenage girl who doesn't know what she wants in life and I guess I finally came to terms with it. That or I guess I’m really just tired of having to put on a mask that I don’t fit into anymore, goodbye to you and hello to my education and higher grades, goodbye distraction. I’m sorry I lied to you for the past few months, but I guess lying to myself is what it took to see that I was unhappy and needed to clean out my life, I hope you find someone who is right for you and really means what they say and not have to lie to themselves and hold back so much to keep from telling you to just grow up and stop being fake because that’s what t seems like you were for the last 5 months of my life. You were a fake poser that just needed companionship like I did.

Hey there.

I want to start by saying I actually like this a lot. It's raw, and sports a kind of angsty sensibility that makes it interesting. I love the tone you've set, the "voice" feels real. What the character's going through is something we've read many a times.

And writing about 'common' things is difficult in the sense that you need to whip your story up in a way it wouldn't seem predictable, but rather interesting.

I like how midway, you partly give away with commas and stuff and go with flow of the character's voice. It's nice, and reads great but sometimes you need to put in a comma or two where there might be difficulty in understanding what you mean. For example:

I don’t care what people say once lovers, you either never stop loving each other or you were never in love to begin with.

You need a period or, perhaps, a semicolon after 'say'. I had to read it twice to get it. Readers don't want to read things twice to understand what's going on.

Another thing is, the story isn't going anywhere. There are some deep things you are talking about here ("masks"; "companionship") and a full fledged story in this voice might do this more service than a conventional rant. I'm all for rants, they are cool. It's just that I feel, fleshing this out with action seem like a cool idea.

Otherwise, it's a nice enough story. I enjoyed it. Keep writing.
Un.

Interesting piece Danceingtreelf, I have a friend who is going through exactly what you are going through. Believe me, it will get better but in the mean time, allow the emotions to flow and share them with the world.

All I would say to make this piece better is:

- Make paragraphs. Without paragraphs, most people will not read a text because it will be stressful to the mind and eye, also having no paragraphs will make it seem like unprofessional writing.

- Describe him, what does he look like? what drew him to you in the first place? How can we as the reader see the signs you saw and in the end avoid getting hurt by a poser. What made him appear a poser?

This piece can be better but there is passion in what you do so keep improving your writing.

I see what yo meant about the paragraphs and spacing to make it easier on the eyes, i didn't even want to read it when it was just a mass of words.

Sadly this was really just a dump of thought from after a fight I had the other night, and I have found that writing it into story form helps me to calm down and not say things that I would later regret.

Interesting story you have there. Here's how it's going to work with me. I'll talk about what works first then what doesn't, and then I'll do my best to give you advice on what you could do to improve on this.

What works
- The story you chose to write about is common, but still possible to write about. Don't let anyone tell you not to write about teenage relationships. It's never the topic that's wrong, but everything else that could be.
- I enjoy the close view of the narrator's state of mind.

What doesn't work
- The paragraphing, or the lack of it, makes it incredibly difficult to read and follow. Had this been as long as a real short story, few would have bothered to read even if it is good stuff.
- The same goes with the sentence structure, and the lack of punctuation.
- I know you're trying to mirror the state of mind of the narrator, but it doesn't necessarily work, especially when your intention is pitted against the practical aspects of writing: communication. In this case, communication is hampered severely by your long departure from conventions.
- The black and white good-vs-evil theme here doesn't work. I believe literature/media as a whole have gone past that medieval way of thinking. Inject some greyness into your story. Quite frequently, relationships break down because both sides were at fault.

Suggestions to Improve the Piece
- I don't believe you should chuck out every technique you've employed to mirror the state of mind of the character. You could try doing away with one or two of the ways (such as the lack of paragraphing or something), and see if it's a little more coherent. I believe you should at least have some manner of paragraphing. I've written in a similar way as you did, and I believe I might do it again, but not to your extent, and even then, a minority of my readers are still complaining of the readability, and I'd say they have their reasons.
- Develop your plot even further. You could even try laying out what was it that made the relationship fail, on both sides. You could have an outline first, to explore the plot.
- How about pulling a bit of what actually happened between your narrator and her ex and putting it in there? Give us clues as to what actually went down.

I guess that's all I got. Keep writing!

I did see the paragraph impairment, that has been fixed. As for the describing him it felt unneeded so i didn't and as stated in another comment this was really just a dump for my thoughts after a pretty big fight with my boyfriend.

And I have found that if I write it into a story like form it helps me to calm down, place my thoughts and keep myself from saying things that I would most likely regret at a later time.
