This is just a small idea I've been having. It is not the final piece. This all may not even be the final way I take this idea but I wanted to get this out there for everyone.

Why do people look at me as if I'm crazy? Do I appear as if I am?  I swear as long as I've been on this earth, I've pictured myself as a standard citizen of the world. One who does nothing but live a storybook stereotypical life. I believe I am the true embodiment of normal.

I walk the streets of downtown Los Angeles taking in the beautiful sights of trash and homeless people who rid the streets. I can literally smell the sewage which leaks from the cracks of tall skyscrapers who make me feel so small and insignificant. Oh all the beauty of this city. Ain't it beautiful. It is nothing but a dump where people like me are thrown out by the rest of society so that they may reap the benefits of my hard work! OFF WITH THEM ALL! I mean honestly they wouldn't survive a single day in my shoes. They all sit in their golden thrones as I roll around in the mud with the pigs. Those ungrateful pricks have no idea what real life is really like.

I start off my walk from my small apartment in the center of downtown and finish it off at the big office building in which I'm an assistant at. I walk in and make my way to the elevator. People pile in and squish me against the back wall almost acting as if I don't exist. I go all the way to the top floor where the boss of the whole banking company awaits me. Gordon Galo: the embodiment of everything I dislike. He is arrogant, selfish, ungrateful, and the biggest prick to all his employees that do not meet the certain criteria he wants.

"You're late" he says the second I step foot off the elevator. He turns and starts walking not allowing me to answer his statement.

"I have a board meeting today at 1 with the investors. They want to come by and see how everything is with us. I need you to be in the room taking notes on anything and everything they say. Just sit there, be quiet, and do your job."

I answer him the way all of us "inferior employees" answer to him  with a, "yes sir."

We walk together into the main office room which is filled with a bunch of employees all dressed up, with phones going off all over the place and the smell of coffee moving through the air. We reach Mr. Galo's office and he turns to me with a look of sincerity. He looks away and walks into his office. He doesn't expect me to go in as my list of tasks I must accomplish has already been laid out for me. I walk over to my small desk which is directly in from of Mr. Galo's office. Nothing much is on it or in it. There is a company loaned computer along with pens, paper, and sticky notes. A rather stereotypical office desk. I quickly get to work knowing that if I get fired from this job I will have to roam the streets begging for food. I complete my tasks at 12:40 giving me 20 minutes until the investor meeting. I go and quickly grab some food and coffee and make my way into the meeting room. I sit in a chair which is in the corner right next to the main door entering the room. Mr. Galo walks in next not even acknowledging my presence. Following him are a group of men and women with briefcases and the smell of their routine morning cigarette. They all calmly sit down and get to work. They talk and talk about whatever nonsense these people talk about, and I blindly write down everything they are saying onto a notepad. In my head I start thinking about how each one of these people are ungrateful scum who should be licking the dirt for just enough nutrients to keep themselves alive.

"One day I will have each and every one of them bowing and begging just so that I'll keep them alive. I'll give them just enough crumbs to keep their skinny lifeless bodies alive, so that their continued suffering of starvation and poverty swallows up their whole life..."

I look up from my notepad realizing I had zoned off, and looking at me is every investor along with Mr. Galo. Their faces are full of anger and disgust. I was confused and terrified at what I had possibly done. Mr. Galo stands up and sternly says to me, "Get out right now!" I follow his command and go over and sit at my desk. Anxiety and fear shadow over me. An hour passes and all the meetings attendees leave. While they walk past me, they all have faces of disgust and fear. Mr. Galo, however, has the face of someone who wants to kick the living hell out of someone. He calls me into his office and quickly gets to it.

"WHY IN ALL OF GODS LIVING HELL DID YOU SAY THAT? DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT YOU JUST DID?"

I reply frightened, "Sir, I have no idea what I did in there. If I made some sort of noise or anything I sincerely apologize."

"Oh you made more than just a little noise. 'Just give them enough crumbs so that their suffering continues,' I mean who says something like that!"

"Sir, I would never say anything like that out loud in front of the investors."

"Well, YOU DID! I don't know what kind of sicko you are to even wish that upon anyone. I mean seriously. You are crazy. A nutjob. A psychopath. You scared half of those investors to death believing they were all going to die. You are one sick human being."

"Sir, I seriously don't remember me saying those things."

"Oh now you don't remember, huh? Well how about you remember this! GET OUT OF MY OFFICE AND OUT OF THIS BUILDING BEFORE I GET THE COPS TO DO IT FOR ME!"

In disbelief I look at him and stand there shocked. Regaining my control I walk out of the office and the whole building. I continue my walk to my apartment where I walk up to my door with a sign saying rent is due. I was out of a job and now homeless. i knew I wouldn't be able to pay off rent since I just got fired. I wanted to give up so badly. I wanted to give into the pressure and give up. I wanted to end it all right there and then.

A person who wants to fit in, but can't A person who wants to be treated fairly by society, but isn't. Anyone who has ever felt like they don't fit in knows how this character feels. Anyone who's ever been angry about not being angry to fit in knows how this character feels. That's what makes this character so relatable. They're human, not perfect like so many people try to make their protaginasts. The character is being called flawed by a flawed society. It wasn't their choice to be born this way but they still have to live with the fact that they will never be what society wants them to be.

Hi DPeters0303,

Mailice here with a short review.

I took notice when I read the title and short description and was not disappointed while reading your short story.
It's an interesting story, I like the narrator and Galo. Many questions are raised during the narration (what is it that the narrator has? What happened? Has this happened before?). You want to know more about the background right away.
I like how you use sarcasm at the beginning. It gives you a good insight into the narrator's character.

Sometimes the sentences seem a bit choppy when you repeat yourself, but otherwise it reads very well.

It could be the beginning of a cool story and I hope there's more to come! :D

I really like the introduction of the characters and the way the scenes build up to another. The flow is fantastic and very easy to follow. I think it's an awesome idea and i'd jump up at the idea of reading more... It drew me in (not very easy to do, I am constantly unfocused).
I really hope you do decide to do more with this plot... I have so many questions: is the main character possessed? Does the main character have an illness? What's the bigger picture?
I hope you have more works posted (I haven't checked yet) so I can read more of your style of writing. Keep writing, man, I think this plot is a great way to intrigue so many readers.
stay safe

This is just absolutely fantastically unordinarily awesome !!
it's a shame it might be the end of it, and quite frankly, I'm surprised no one commented on this. It's just such an interesting story, I'm kinda thankful this ended in the green room tho, so I was able to read it :D

(my bad, someone commented. what I meant was like I thought there's be dozens of comments all over the place)

Before I start reviewing, I just wanted to say a few things.
the story looks great, I'm just afraid it has a gacha-type story plot, with a ordinary man being possessed by a demon who suddenly becomes super powerful and gives in to the darkness blah blah blah. Gacha nonsense really. The idea in itself is original, but it's just been used sooooo many times, so just, no. I could be wrong, it's true I watch a lot of gacha videos- but just be aware of that.
Now, on to the review

❌❌❌ MINUSES ❌❌❌

Honestly, not much bad stuff to complain about. I guess the sarcasm at the beginning wasn't really clear at first, I thought he actually liked living on the streets and being poor. At the same time, sarcasm doesn't exist in writing, it must be through the spoken word. Unless the spoken becomes the description, where he says something like: "I just looooove this place so much", but even that way, it doesn't really work.

✅✅✅ PLUSES ✅✅✅

EVERYTHING
and thank god !! thank god you didn't make this in a shonen-type story, where he starts off as totally meek and go-with-the-flow both outside and inside, since he actually rebels himself (with his thoughts at least). thanks you!! thank you for not making it a stereotypical "maybe if I try harder he'll respect me" or him saying "I'm sure he didn't mean to insult me", because that's sooooo overdone it's become just outright boring.
the character is good, maybe just not make the business men all black and white, maybe have some more fleshed out characters. Or maybe you could do something as the MC (main character) at first seeing the flaws and the good stuff in people, poor or business men alike, and as he progresses in his insanity, they all begin to muddle in one big flaw he absolutely hates. That would be an interesting way to see how he slowly becomes insane, well if he does. That's kinda what I understood from the title xD

No pressure or anything but, MAKE A FOLLOW UP. IT'S AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!
No pressure tho, no pressure.. ;)

Ok. I'm here for a quick review.
First off, this is interesting. The idea that no matter how hard you try to be normal, you'll always be odd, is relatable to everyone, I'm sure. I like the character premise, but he could do with a little more direction. On the one hand, he keeps saying he's just a normal guy, just trying to fit in. On the other, he has constant thoughts about torturing the rich. I assume you've done this to sort of sneak in his little innocent "what? who, me?" Unfortunately, it didn't really come off that way. Maybe slow it down and give a little more insight into his intentions and more complex feelings, and how the two portions of his life/self interact with each other.
Also, I think the piece could benefit from work on sentence structure. You repeat a lot of words in one sentence right after another, or even in the same sentence sometimes. Just watch out for repetition. :-) Also, I'd throw some commas in your longer sentences. I like to break up sentences (especially where the characters's thoughts are coming through directly) how I would say it out loud. Where the natural breaks and pauses are, I mean.
That's all! Overall it was really interesting to read, and quite frankly I feel like some heads are gonna roll now that this guy has lost his job. Oof. Tough break, buddy.
Have a good weekend coming up here!
