Fallen Angel
The sand tickled my smooth-pink skinned feat, as they were washed away from the shore, left alone and formed by orphaned crystals. My hands were tied around my cold legs, as I sit up to look at the orange shine above me. Soon, it would fade away from a hard day’s work and colliding its job with the moon. The luckiest object alive would be the sun but never the moon. I look up the sky, as the angry grey clouds clad the happy orange shine, ready to spread the silvery light among the sky. In a moment’s time, the devil would come out.

“Mommy!” Nova ran from her little “mountain” made up of sand.
Nova was the only golden gem in my life. Her light greenish-blue eyes were enough for me to fill my heart. Even in the most disturbed time, I could never yell at her for what she’d done because of her silky brown hair and twinkling eyes. Those were the two wonderful things in the World.
I spread my arms as she ran through it, and closed the chain back. I pressed her tight as her small little arms took over my neck. My hands motioned my beautiful daughter’s hair. Nova planted a soft kiss on my almost wrinkled cheek. I posed a gentle smile of my face but Nova had a different one. It was a smile only a child could lead with her pink lips stretched and her first milk tooth growing inside.
“Who’s the mommy’s girl?” I wink.
“Nova’s the mommy’s girl! Look what I made, mommy!” Nova said, jumping up, excitedly.
“My, what a fantastic creation!” I compliment her, gazing upon her small sand castle.
“Do you think I can become a drawer?” the 7-year old asked me, as her soft fingers gripped onto my hand.
“You can be more than that, lovely.” I said, kissing her on the forehead.
I stand up, balancing myself on the sand. Nova beamed and took my hand. Our legs slowly started to walk. It was a cold evening, but it was what Nova liked most. She adored the beaches and would want to come here, everyday. I was left in thoughts, but soon felt back as Nova had left my hands and clutched on to her arms, crossing both. She was shivering.
“Mommy, let’s go home.” Nova spoke, quivering.
I dug my bag through, wanting to spot her sweater somewhere in there. I always carried it with me. My palm feels a zip, and I take it out. I hear myself sighing a sigh of relief, and kneel down to Nova to put it for her. I slip the furry, baby pink jacket and she doesn’t prevent me from doing so. I work on the zip, and pull it up. I get to my feet again, and grasp her hand. I didn’t want to leave her even for a minute.
“Now, we can go home.” I look down at her, and Nova nods.
“Mommy, you didn’t ask how was my day today.” Nova says, giving the impression of being annoyed.
I laughed a little. “Of course, how could I forget? How was your day?”
Nova giggles and I knew that she had just re-winded her thoughts. She looked around for someone but sadly failed to see her. I looked towards the sea, its blue touch swimming over. The sea always had a nice life span. Nova shook me by my arm.
“Mommy, I saw Natalie today!” She squeaked.
Natalie was Nova’s best friend who she hadn’t seen in a month. Sorrowfully, Natalie was diagnosed with pneumonia and was lead onto a very critical stage. Nova shed tears for her every night, and she would always cuddle around my arms. I would pat her all night; kiss her every time on her forehead, saying “It’s all going to be alright, baby.” It was a miracle she had made such a come-back.
“What? Is it?” I asked, surprised as Nova is.
“Yes! And mommy, we played on the swings and we sang all the Barney songs!” Nova went on, and sang. “I love you, you love me…”
I grinned by her giggly childish manners. I’ve always thought that Nova had always had a unique voice when she sings. Nova skipped along with me, happily singing almost all the Barney songs. This made me think about James. He was always the one who would carry Nova and play ‘pilot’ and ‘barney’ with her. If only he could see how appealing our daughter was now. How she turned out to be just because of James’s values taught to her. I feel hot tears swelling up around my eyes, when I hear someone scream out my name. We had just walked into a crowd. It seemed like people were taking advantage of enjoying this evening.
“Lisa!” a familiar voice called out to me.
Nova and I looked around and I saw a face with blonde hair and perfect black glasses. She was in a cocktail dress with a drink in her hand. Nova caught on to my clothes because of the scary crowd. I held her by the hand as the young lady walked to me, flashing me a big smile. As she came closer, it dawned on me.
“Helen!” I exclaimed, and hugged her, tightly.
“Mommy?” Nova said, but I couldn’t hear her.
I was in high spirits about seeing Helen, here. She was my cousin and a good friend. Not noticing that I had left Nova, I went on to talk to her. I thought she would follow me. Helen took a sip of her red wine.
“It’s so nice to see you! Been a long time, hasn’t it?” she asked me.
“I know!” I replied enthusiastically.
“How’re you keeping your health?”
“I’m fine! Stop worrying about me too much, will you?” I replied.
Helen chuckled. “It’s just that I was so worried about you. How would I not be anxious?”
At that very moment, I heard shrieking and screeching. They were all running in four directions, not knowing where they would end up. Helen was on her toe to see what was going on, but nothing was to be seen. Helen turned to ask one of the men, who just ran past them.
“Excuse me! What’s going on?” Helen demanded an answer.
“Run, if you want to save your lives! They’re here!” he screamed, his eyes red and puffy.
Helen froze. “That can’t be…” she muttered.
I shook her by the shoulder. “Helen, what’s wrong?!” I raised the question.
“Lisa, where’s N-Nova?” Helen stammered.
That’s when I finally turn around to check upon her, but her tiny hands were not clutching onto my skirt, anymore. My insides went cold, hands went stiff, head felt dizzy and my whole body was sting. My heart pounded. Nova wasn’t around. The frightening scene made me narrow my eyes, rapidly.
“Nova…” I hurried through the crowd, pushing everyone, closely followed by Helen. “Sweetie?”
“Nova, darling!” Helen yelled among the crowd.
“Mommy!” I heard Nova’s voice. She was near!
“Nova?” my eyes widened, and ran through the crowd.
There she was, in the middle of the hasty mob. She cried, wiping her eyes which were misty. Her face was red from fear. Nova felt down on her knees, wrapping her jacket around her for warmth. She was breathing heavily, and cried some more, vociferously. How could I ever tend to lose her like that? But when I saw her, I knew she was safe and she would be mine, forever.
I was proved wrong, just the minute I was about to pick her up. Some men in black had grabbed her around her petite waist. Nova kicked the air and stretched her hands for aid. I tried to fight my way for her. I can’t lose her just like how I lost my beloved, James. I jumped on top of the brutal minded man.
“Give my daughter, back! Please!” I howled in agony.
Two other men in the same uniform, pulled my hair and banged me to the wall. I saw them pierce the blade through Helen’s body.
“HELEN!” I cried, the tears trickling from my eyes, continuously.
My head was bleeding but I didn’t give any chances of letting my daughter go. But I felt weak. My eye lids felt an intense pressure on them. Nova whimpered for me, waiting for me to take her away.
“MOMMY!” Nova bawled.
“Please! Have mercy!” I begged them, on my knees.
The gruesome men never took the advice of what I said. I wanted to stop them but I observed that they had covered her face, making her to suffocate in that wretched scarf. She grasped on to it, and kicked. I knew she would soon stop breathing because she was an Asthma patient.
“NO, PLEASE! NOT MY BABY!” I seized them by the shirt and they slapped me off and I broke down into sorrow.
I got to my stand, with my hair all over my face. I pushed it back and spun around, but noticed she had stopped moving. Her legs were no longer struggling; her lungs were not breathing the tense atmosphere. It was all over. Nova’s left me. I shook my head in disbelieve, and looked up the dark blue night. The moon had emerged from its shadow and that was the exact instant, Nova had departed.
“NOO!” I screamed for her, shaking her legs. “NO, NOVA! PLEASE, WAKE UP! DON’T LEAVE ME LIKE THIS, NOVA! PLEASE!”
The men laughed and escaped from the land, leaving me to open my floodgates. Why had been the moon such a fiend to take away my daughter? I had so much in store for her, so much to teach her in life so much that I couldn’t get to see how gorgeous my Nova would turn out? I cried for her day and night, just like how Nova would cry for Natalie. I had experienced that pain once when James had absent himself and when he was aching in pain, I would always hold her hand. When I saw the small sparkle in his eyes fade off, it left me in the most mental state. My cheeks were a dry pale and sobbed, staining the sand as I had witnessed the death of my own daughter. My heart is sinking and I find nothing more enlightening in life, anymore…
“Nova…” I thought and felt on her knees, lying next to her, alone to face my thoughts.

alright so i have a few complaints. One in this story where did the knife come from that stabbed Helen? There was no mention of the mob was men until you said a man told the mother to run.so maybe next time weave in those details before it happens. other than that it was good but needed more emotion.
Keep writing! Hawinay
Thanks for the review!
I cleared up the confusion when the knife comes out and stabs Helen.
And yeah, I'll try to weave in all those details next time. I know it wasn't too emotional and I'll definitely work on that, next time.
Thanks, again! ^^
