There's the fair maiden in distress and the hero that saves her.
The knight in shining armor and the dragon and his treasure.
The dark evil villain with plans for world domination.
And let's not forget the young farm boy, our salvation.
--
Many stories we read have people like this.
They all have happy endings or share true loves kiss.
The villain is no more and the age of peace grows.
The hero wins, because that's how it goes.
--
But it's always the same with these fairytale stories.
The villain is vanquished and the hero gets the glory.
But what if, just for once, the story was altered?
What if, one fateful day, our hero had faltered?
--
What would have happened if the maiden were never saved?
What would have happened if the knight failed, never praised?
What would have happened if the villain took over?
And oh, what would have happened if the boy died like his father?
--
Not many tales have endings like this.
Not many tales have a hero that is missed.
Though I'm sure there's something out there with this different perspective.
There's probably a story where the hero fails his directive.
But even then, in the end, the hero returns and everyone knows
That all will work out, because that's how it goes.

Hello CapitalMonday here for a review. I would like to begin about how you give the readers a short summary of what are fairy tales and how at the question still goes unanswered; what would happen if the villain took over the story and the knight never finished his task? I enjoy this poem very much and the flow of everything makes me wonder; what would happen? I would say that the story isn't even a story without the knight or the princess being rescued or the villain taking over the story but there might one story out there that has the tables turned- like you said- but where could story be at?
Also in this poem, the flow of the tones and rhymes make it an A+ poem (or better said, a professional could have wrote this.) The tone of this poem is how someone would describe as a question needing an answer but the answer is lost forever, but could be resurfaced if someone will be willing to write a story about this.
Hope you enjoy this,
CapitalMonday
Hi! I have to say I love the message in it. Every story has a happy ending, but what if they were altered? Totally loved it, really.
There's something in it that pushes the reader to keep on reading. Great!
A pretty interesting idea to talk about. Have to say I love how you put it down in writing.
Love the ending in particular. Great work there!
Great job. From the message to the structure. Keep it up!
Hope I keep reading much of your work!
Not really a review, just wanted to share something.... If the hero failed, would there even be a story? Wouldn't the story die with him? I would greatly enjoy a poem that mentioned that aspect of it... Not that I didn't enjoy this! I did greatly!
Also some of the rhyme scheme seems a little off. Mostly in the third stanza. I would write the first line to make the final word "story" singular. But its your work, your voice, and quite a well done, well thought out piece of writing.
Inked here!
So I like your take on happy endings. You did a great job of getting your point across.
Since this is a review I must give you a critique on something.
I feel like the 'What if' stanza had some parts that didn't seem to flow together. They felt a little cut offish.
Also how many times have you rewrote this?
I find things fall together better after rewriting it a couple times, even after I think it's done.
Another thing. Are you trying to create a picture in our mind of fairy tales, because although you have done a good job already, descriptive words about an image, could help to enhance your poem.
well I'm done.

Really nice. I enjoyed it. This is true. People do like the happy ending. I do like happy endings, but at the same time I like things to be realistic. I feel like the prince is not so realistic. I like it when there is a twist to something. Anyway, very lovely piece of poetry. I like the way you put your point. It is indeed a very interesting idea.

You do need to know you can't put ' But' as the beginning of your sentence. Other than that, you did great. Keep it up!
- Hope.
