The girl with the golden smile

PreviousNext

I often reminisce about the girl with the golden smile

A smile that made me believe maybe fairytales held truth in them

A smile that made me believe maybe it didn't always have to be a princess and her prince

Maybe believing that was okay, maybe not dreaming about a prince was okay

I often reminisce about the girl with the golden smile

A smile that made me believe in all the cheesy cliches

"Oh, she took my breath away" had never been so accurate

"My heart skipped a beat" suddenly was so relatable

I often reminisce about the girl with the golden smile

A smile that taught me life is in fact not a fairytale

Feelings aren't always returned

No one's coming to rescue you

You have to do that yourself

A smile that taught me that fairytales make it look so easy to be brave

When in actuality, it's one of the hardest things to do

You taught me so much

The girl with the golden smile

Hey!! Ejay here for a quick review !!
I have been reviewing a lot of poems lately , and I always make it a point to speak nothing but the truth . It can be harsh , but you have got to face it .
So, moving on , I would like to say that your title is not only very appropriate , but also very alluring . It drew my attention with the power of the magnet . Next, I really liked the way you have projected your emotions . They flow smoothly without any blemishes . And , that is pretty hard to do . Cheers on that !
My suggestion would be to break the poem into stanzas in order to ease the readability .
Overall , I really liked this once .
It's light , sweet and nice.
Bye .
Regards,
Ejay

Okay, so last review of the night, and golden gives a dichotomy between meaning either

1. wonderful and valuable, or
2. yellow and unhygienic.

For the sake of argument, we'll say it's the former. You spend the entire poem teetering on the edge of narrative but continuously falling into blatant statements:

Maybe believing that was okay, maybe not dreaming about a prince was okay
Feelings aren't always returned
No one's coming to rescue you
You have to do that yourself

etc. So in poetry, you take the blatancy and you veil it. Compact it. Turn it into narrative and metaphor or scrap it. Find a way to fit this into your style of conveying the message without just blatantly telling us the message, ya feel? Poetry works more powerfully that way in that folks can infer what they need from the text instead of being blocked into one singular meaning without possibility of outside context.

You have the entire realm of fairy tales to help you, so I see no problem in bringing in narrative and fantasy imagery, metaphors that go beyond the normal. You're already working with a questionably unrealistic basic statement: golden smile, so why stop there? Give us bravery in a way that we can interpret as readers in our own way. Give us fluid sexuality in a way we can interpret as readers in our own way. Give us hard choices and difficulty and how much life can suck. Villains abound.

In fantasy, the world is boundless, so don't act like your possibilities aren't.

I'm not huge into poetry, but I'm really trying to get into it, so I'm not great at poetry review or anything.

I'm just going to be real for a second and this poem really spoke to me. I love my bestfriend, I know you must think it's like a friend love, but no. It's more than that. Honestly she's the person I'm closest to. i tell her everything and I don't know a world without her. When she smiles or laughs it makes me happy and it makes me love her even more. And I know that she'll never be able to return these feelings, but it's a fairy tale I love living in. I don't know if I'll ever tell her how I feel, but it always breaks my heart a little when I have to watch her love other people. Since she tells me everything I know she's kind hearted and will never hurt another person. She always takes my breath away and my heart pounds so fast when I see her. I'll probably never feel this way toward anyone else, so I have to live with that hardship every day, even though it kills me, I'm just glad she's in my life. She's the girl with the golden smile that I think of all the time.

I'm very glad I read this poem. The way it spoke to me was like no other. I never thought I could relate so well with a work of art.

This made me so emotional but I%u1E3F really glad you could find something to convey your feelings. I wish you endless happiness and love and I sincerely hope things work out the way you want them too!! :)

All we can do is our best, and hope that it was enough.
