The Dunes

Heart racing

Adrenaline kicking in,

Feet sinking

So soft

But yet so rough,

Sand

Huge piles of sand

Standing like small mountains

The backdrop to a lake,

It stretches on

Like the ocean

Leaving you wondering

What lurks beneath

The murky water,

I am almost one with the surroundings

In the water I am safe

I can feel it

I belong,

Laying on the sand

I feel at peace with the world

It's the only home I'll ever need,

If the water wasn't cold

No force could stop me

The magnetic attraction

Water is the source of life,

Climbing the dunes I feel

Like I can do anything

Be anyone,

When I leave

The feeling is gone

The rush of the wind

Is nothing but

A distant memory

Life is dull

Without my true home

I really enjoyed this poem, and I understand that there's been some confusion about your title and meaning; I'd like to try and clarify this a bit since I think I know what you mean.

That you want to reach the ocean, and the dunes mark its location but also make it harder to get there. You're not excited about the dunes themselves, you're excited about what they mean. Hope that clears things up.

Anyway, onto the review. Which will be very short because, personally, I didn't see anything wrong with this poem. You did a great job.

My rating: 5*s

My favorite part:

I hope to read more of your work!

Good night. I will be your reviewer for this evening. Let me start by saying that I appreciate you writing about something like sand dunes becuase no one else seems to be doing it. Congradulations for your originality, you hipster you. But anyway, I really enjoyed this poem but the only proble I had with it is the search for water, if the sand is his true home and ect. then why is he acting dehydrated. Anyway, I like this piece so good job!
