Snowflakes

Everyone's eyes gleam and
Reflect the colours of the
Inside world.
White are the streets,
No flowers to cloud your cloudy breath
That casts a spell on life.

Here in England, the world stops
Because we can't go on - were unprepared.
The snow falls from heaven and says,
"Look just one moment into your windows,
And hold hands, take a walk outside
And kiss under the icicles."
Stop and remember the love you once had,
When you were children and you still knew
Of winters long past,
When the songs were written.

And all the people sit there
Like freezing summer hazes,
But autumn is gone.
I am the snowman,
Wretched and grinning,
Singing the tune of the twinkling stars.

Very confusing yet captivating..sounds like freewriting, though. If you took the ideas from this poem and created a new one, it would be a very beautiful piece. I find myself wishing for more depth and answer after reading it, maybe add a bit more story to the poem.

I liked it very much, keep writing!

I saw the title and I was thinking, "I hope this isn't a cliche poem..."
And it's not at ALL! It's beautiful, and original :) xx

I liked it!
Mainly because it was talking about a winter in England, as opposed to Australia where all we get are a few rain drops and 15 degrees celcius!

But reguardless of that, I enjoyed reading it, even through the confusing parts as mentioned previously.

Keep on writing!

Very ominous. A good poem to read slowly. A question though: through the whole poem, is it told as the snowman being the narrator? Or is that just the ending? All together a nice poem that seems to catch the essence of winter rather well. I was slightly confused about the songs part myself, thinking "What songs?" But then I thought maybe it was traditional winter songs, like "Let It Snow" and stuff like that. I may be wrong, though. And the part about the flowers I thought was nice. Also the very beginning, the part about eyes reflecting the inside world, creative. That particular part made me think about how we tend to stay inside more during the winter, and because of this, we light up the inside more, decorate things, make things seem brighter as if to mimic the summer light.

There are definitely a few confusing bits in this poem. For starters, flowers clouding breath. Being a child and knowing of winters long past is also a tad confusing, (as is the bit about songs. What songs?) But the part about snow telling you to hold hands and look through windows is lovely. This poem has a nice and cozy feel to it, but ends sadly. Despite this, it makes me like it even more. It's like the poem is pointing out both the delights and downsides of winter. Keep at it! :)

The necessary beauty in life is in giving yourself to it completely, only later will it clarify itself and become coherent.
