That Special Week
The horrid smell
And cramps that clench the gut.
Don't forget the mood swings too!
Trapping me in a prison cell.
That is what
My periods do.
PMS beyond belief.
Hormones racing.
Blood flowing day and night.
Is there no relief
From the ordeal I'm facing?
For seven days I toil with this fight.
Forever feeling unclean.
Constantly worrying about a leak.
Did I mention yet the mood swings?
One minute I'm mean,
The next I'm meek.
Why must I put up with these things?
For a week,
I'm not the normal me.
The usual me is lost for the time.
It's relief I seek.
Can't you see?
All I can do is make up this rhyme.
And so I finish
With three things left to say:
I wish the blood would diminish
And my period could just go away!
Don't come back,
You thing so vile.
I'd he happy to lack
My period trial!

This was personal to say the least. I did find this fairly graphic. I am a guy, so I definetely don't have periods. You have managed to do what few things about periods do: make me sympathize with the person. I have friends who complain about periods to me, and honestly, it's really tiresome. You have managed to put your anger and your frustration into art, something that is notoriously difficult to do. Hats off for making me want to listen to you about your struggle. I hope that your painful week ends soon.
Hey there - plz excuse my rushed responce - im half asleep here - but I couldnt resist.

Oh man! what a poem! It was hysterical. I loved it. (I won't give you the gory details of how I could relate.
This jumped out at me in particular:
For a week,
I'm not the normal me.
The usually me is lost for the time.
It's relief I seek.
Can't you see?
All I can do is make up this rhyme.
There is such truth. I loved it.
I thought your subtle echos of certain words and feelings (mood swings for example) was a nice touch.
I'm sorry your suffering.
Do feel better soon.
Keep up the good work, red drum, you are dead funny.
