crunching chomping
patchily glazed with crystal sweet
sticky fingers
picking mixing
heavenly snacks in a cinema seat

Plant pots on my balcony
ignored for the last six seasons
wake for spring:
towering dandelions, wild grasses, stubborn chives and garlic
thrive amid the stalks of my neglect.

sky blue fades up to azure
where a lone eveningstar sparkles

Two hundred bones
Six hundred muscles
Five whole litres of imitation seawater
Thirty teeth
Twenty nails
Ten million racing thoughts

For the right sort of problem on the right sort of day and with just enough
uninterrupted
time
a programmer falls into flow state
(tackle this corner of the puzzle first and then that feeds into another and once we've got that we can kick off a build in the background and turn attention to an edge and perhaps with just a little more tweaking we might have one quadrant starting to resolve into something that looks like a picture)
and suddenly
you've blown right past dinner time.

black ink on cream
careful dots and crosses
sum up all I've ever been

I've been working out lately
but climbing a hill uses a whole different set of muscles
and today
there was a hill in front of me.

Walking on rough ground strengthens your stabilisers
so next time it will be easier
but tonight
my legs just ache.

We're going to drive to the river

I spliced a string to my sternum
and tied it also to you,
craving a closer connection
to you and the things that you do.

My feet were fixed in my footprints;
yours went wandering afar,
so I spliced a string to my sternum
and tore my ribcage apart.

Changing weather hour by hour:
wind and sun and April showers;
new leaves green upon the bower
jewelled with rain and budding flowers.

The sky is never dark in the city.
Once,
we traced a world in the heavens
replete with queens, hunters and hounds
splashed
across a river of stars.
Tonight, all I have are aeroplanes.

teeth clamped in the vice of the jaw
ribbons of muscle wrapped tight
around a compressed core of ribs
