I really like reading vampire books when they're well-written and have a good plot, but I'm particular about them. I've read and loved the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, the Cirque Du Freak series by Darren Shan, as well as Twilight and New Moon by Stephanie Meyer, and they were all excellent, but I can't seem to find any truly good ones lately. Can anyone think of an exceptionally good vampire book(s) they really enjoyed? Something that doesn't lag too much and has fascinating characters?

Well, you've already read one series I was going to recommend. Good to know I'm not the only Stephanie Meyer lover around here. ;)

I think you should check out "Peeps". I can't remember the author off hand, only that it was written by a man and is likely to be found in the YA section of your library or bookstore. It's really good and a moderately lengthy. ^_^

Um, I hear 'I Am Legend' is meant to be quite good.

Or you could go back to the origional and check out 'Dracula'.

Although I haven't actually read either of those books...
I wrote the above just for you.

Have you read the Vampire Hunter D series by Hideyuki Kikuchi? It's a pretty unique series, if you like stories about vampires you'll probably enjoy it. Plus they're illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano (the concept artist of Final Fantasy I-VI), so the illustrations are beautiful on top of the solid story and writing.

I recommend Sunshine by Robin McKinley, and The Blood Books by Tanya Huff. Also The Vampire De Sade by Mary Ann Mitchell or any of the the Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris, I particularly liked Club Dead the best.

My sister once bought a book at alibary sell off, she didn't like it but my Papy and I did. That was Lords of Light by Steven Sprull. I think it might have been part of a series but I'm not too sure.
please grant me my small wish; (love me to the marrow of my bones)

The only one that ever struck my interest was dear Anne, I think she is the only one that could write a vampire that way it should be done. Though I'm working my way around to Twilight, as everyone tells me I need to read it...

I've been told to read the Guilty Pleasure series, but I advise against it. It's pretty much erotica, with some plot. (Mind, I've only read the first book of the series) but its pretty craptacular. I mean come on, were-rats trying to rape somebody? Not cool.

You could always go for Dracula, though I've attempted it, I've never finished it. From what I've heard its a good book, and not a good vampire book.

Good luck finding a nice blood sucker!

Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz is pretty good. Though its not your typical vampire book. All the legends about vampires seem to be false. (as they are in the Twilight series) Anyway, it was a pretty good read. The sequel is called Masquerade.

The Laurell K. Hamilton series is great for a while. If you stick to the books that come earlier on in the series - especially the first one, Guilty Pleasures - there's lots of fun violence and vampire games. Later on it degenerates into lots of sex and EXTREME SUPER POWERS for Anita. But the first couple are great.

When I was younger, I also truly enjoyed most of Amelia Atwater-Rhodes' books.

I don't know why it's so hard to find good vampire books; enough people love/obsess over vampires that you'd think there'd be too many.

The only other one I can think of offhand is The Darkangel, by Meredith Ann Pierce. It's a wonderful book, but it's not really about a vampire in any traditional sense of the word. There's also some sequels, I believe, but I haven't read them.

(( And Anne Rice needs a good stabbing. God, I cannot STAND her. *growls*
Frylock, please, no books! I can't read; I'm not a loser!

Dangerous Girls by R.L.Stine (teen fiction) I love them, I got them as a gift for completing a project for school, also Cirque Du Freak series but you mentioned that already. Ummmm, I read a book called bite but I can't remember the authors name:P
And thirst by M.T. Anderson (i think that's what the author is)
Also Pandora by Anne Rice was really good :)

I wish I could remember more of the vampire books I've read =[

Happy reading,
