for some reason, i can't start writing a story until i know the names to every character, and im having a lot of trouble finding a first name for my main character. ok, here's her description:
very bookish, has read every single book in her public library
is writing a book, (kind of like me, i guess)
has long blonde hair, pale face, really blue eyes
plays hockey,but isn't that good
shy and quiet, sarcastic sense of humor,
really really smart.

if anyone has any ideas for a first name, PLEASE tell, me! i can't start writing until i know her name. My friend says i should name her 'Lynne' but i don't know.
Thanks!!

What I usually do is browse http://www.babynamesworld.com/ until I find something suitable. They have tons of really pretty names on there, so I'm sure you'll be able to find something. Oh, and the name Lynne is pretty as well.

I'm a big fan of Behind the Name.com. Keep in mind that nobody knows what their kid is going to be like when they grow up, and so name sounds or meanings don't always fit the people they're given to and that's okay.

That website is AMAZING, Meep. Thanks for the rec, even though it wasn't for me, XD.

lynne.....lynne is a pretty name and would probably suit the character.

i'm also thinking Jemima (it reminds me of a girl that fits that description at my school). shes always reading and strangely isn't good at hockey (or football) either.

I just looked up the name- it means dove.

Eloise was the third name i could think of to fit that description.

hope I helped :D

Using websites like the above is probably a good bet, but I find I like to take names of friends or make them up. Your character sounds like an Ayame (A yom ee) to me since it's light to say and has a slight sarcastic touch to it. Aya could be a shorter version.

Hm... apparently Derbhla or Dervla means "daughter of a poet".

To me, Sorcha's that sort of name (sorry, they're both Irish names.) Lynne is nice, it suits her. Also I like Marcella (you could call her Marcy)...

I have to go with an M-name. I agree with the person that said Molly. I love that name and it seems to fit your character but now when I imagine her I see glasses. =D

She sounds like she should have a soft sort of name... like Marielle, Daniela, Sophie, or Emily.

Sophie (or Sophia), Lynne, Melonie, Emma, Angelina (or Angela), Kit (or Kitty), Dianna, Lauren, Lydia, Ellen, Shayla, Julia... If you want unusual names, I suggest you look at Native American websites; that's what I do. Usually they're really pretty--if they're less than eleven letters and don't have too many apostrophes and/or hyphens. XD

Anyway, just google 'Native American Names' and you'll get heaps of sites.

Hope this helps!
