I've always written it as defense. But I just looked it up in my Oxford English dictionary and they use "defence" and "defensive." So I dunno. Either way, I guess.

Defence. However, the adjective is "defensive"; thus the adverb is "defensively".

Isn't it something like the noun is defence and the verb is...no but defend is the verb. Hmm. I don't know...

I said defense. My freakish Mac computer thinks "defence" isn't a word. YWS says it's a word. I looked at all the choices so long, the only one that looks right now is "Bob".

Ugh... I've been staring at the words for so long they both look wrong to me. I'm going to try to stay away from the word so I won't have to think about it. Maybe we need to make up a word to fit both choices! :D

Therefore, the new word is... dum dum duuumm.... Bob! :p

now see i spell it defense because defence makes me think of taking a fence off a yard and i have always spelled it defense because i remember my brother saying

"Defence is dething that surrounds deyard"
It doesn't think, doesn't feel.
It doesn't laugh or cry.
All it does from dusk 'till dawn
is make the soldiers die

I've always said defence, though strangely it's not something I've thought about before - how odd!
I try to capture the world in my words but it keeps on escaping me ...

That's not one of the ones I usually notice; I think I've spelled it both ways in the past. I voted for "defense."
