Defense or Defence?

Three-fence! Just because it looks like it belongs in a nursery rhyme ^_^ But other than that, I use defence for sports and defense for military type things. Though I guess that doesn't make too much sense, does it?

I'm American, so "defense." If I was English, Australian, or Canadian, it would be "defence." It's like color-colour...

But my big question is...

why isn't Pat Buchanan on the polls anymore?

Defence for certain! I'd kill any Brit who spelled it differently.

Huh. I naturally type it with a 'c' but I always thought, as an American, I would spell it with an s (as was said before, it's partially a 'depending-on-where-you-live'/'if-you're-a-Brit-Australian-Canadian' thing). Plus, I think I've seen the two spellings at different times in the same story (of mine), though I don't know if I've used them differently (as in sports/military) or not. I think my fingers just like betraying me sometimes... *sigh* XD

Generally, though, I think the proper spelling (like, what you should use in an essay) is with a 'c'.

People who have to spell it in a spelling bee and the judges of said spelling bee. My mom had to spell it one time and she spelled it with a 'c', but the judges insisted she was wrong. They had to look it up before they would give it to her! ^^;
